Blue Thing: The Daily / Motorkhana Hack (Now Efi)
carbonboy replied to carbonboy's topic in Rollaclub Rides
I'm guessing that since you were actually working on her car Colin, that she wasn't an ex at the time? ;) I was kind of relieved that the noise wasn't something clutch/gearbox related, I've done enough work on those in recent times, it's a nice change. I was also (stupidly) thinking about dropping in the 4A & worrying about brakes/suspension later, this has made that decision for me. These stories of things you couldn't do if you tried are very reassuring that I'm not the only one to have stuffed up in a weird & much-later-amusing fashion. Almost seems like it's something you will do at some some stage, no matter how hard you try! :) I am fortunate enough to have the use of my friend/landlord/housemates Celica while repairs happen, which hadn't been driven in so long I had to throw the battery on charge to start it & then put some fresh fuel in the tank so it didn't run like a three-legged donkey. If I didn't, yeah, it'd be a long, cold, painful bike ride to/from work again.- 539 replies

I am jealous of your luck, don't say a word & I don't think they'll even notice! :)

The look on my face when I did it would've been priceless to see! Complete & utter despair, all hope is lost etc. I can laugh now, sure as hell wasn't laughing then. A short video to show just how stuffed the bearing was: All of the offsets!- 539 replies

This is awesome, very similar to the Specials in motorkhana, they're insanely fast! Have fun now. :y:

Gregory's Ae80-82 Workshop Manual. Anyone Got One?
carbonboy replied to Trev's topic in Automotive Discussion
I have one, but I don't have a scanner. I can photograph the pages & email them to you. In hindsight, I won't post them here as copyright infringement, etc etc... -

Managed to get halfway through re-installing the valves etc in the head, when I dropped a valve stem seal & in the process of trying to catch it/not stand on it, I managed to stand on it & crush it. :bash: Called up the shop where I had the head work done, explained the situation & asked if he had a spare laying around. Drove across to the other side of the city & back in afternoon traffic, but worth it. He had not just one but two of the exact same type I already have. Saved my clumsy ass big time! BT's up on stands out the front, some nasty noises are coming from the front passenger side. If it's what I think it is..... Edit: Yep, wheel bearing, front passenger side. Bugger replacing both front bearings, just going to FINALLY put TC hubs/struts/brakes in. Race your daily, this'll happen.- 539 replies

Great work on this! Leaky distributor, rust in windscreen, knackered rear engine mounts being a PITA to change, all this sounds completely normal. :D I agree 100% on the polishing, especially on a car you leave at a train station all day, too much work.

I'd suggest expanding your vocabulary, just because those particular words are in the English language, it doesn't mean you HAVE to use them. I would've thought that the fact that they get changed automatically would indicate a preference for them NOT to be used. :)

Thanks to TNTProductions, we have a short film showcasing Winterfest. Awesome video. -
Results just in: 20th out of 29 Outright, 19th on Handicap, 7th out of 8 in Class A & Novice doesn't really count as I was the only one there. Only the one penalty, a WD, so getting better. :)

Lots of grinding noises from the front end on full lock too, g'day wheel-arch plastics :( I meant when they were all packed up, we just 'improvise' a course :D Take a look at the full days antics (Warning: I tend to swear a bit) here:

I did what now? :blinks: The field numbers were down a little compared to the usual 50, 34-35 I think, then again the photo below sort of shows why. No, not the Honda...the weather was less than desirable but on the upside, Corollas have awesome heaters! I stayed away from the time-sheets unlike last round, things are more fun this way. :) Thankyou for coming across Colin, great to catch up with you again. If only noone was around, we could've taken the KIA for a blast around the carpark! ;) While the rest upload, sneaky teaser video.

I just noticed this part...so it's a 4K block? I'm out of my league knowledge-wise here. Sorry. :(

It might also pay to check the condition of the fuel supply lines/connections to the carburetor itself, you may have a leak from there as the lines perish over time. The easiest way to convert to EFI is to just pull out your carb engine & drop in an EFI version of it, complete with wiring, ECU etc. Which may require a modification-plate, depending on where you are in the world? I'm guessing Kenya, Africa by your username?

The longer studs will all go on the exhaust side of the head, I have no idea why this is, it's just the way the standard studs were when I pulled them out of my bigport. Have you got the standard items to compare the ARP items to? The numbers indicate order of removal :)

There's a drivers briefing at 9:50am, competition begins at 10:00am. As for a finish time, that's always a fuzzy figure, depends on entry numbers & number of tests run, roughly 3:00pm-ish? :)

You've done well LRS, I would've told him to jam his wheels in a warm dark place (or offered to do it for him) somewhere around the mid-point of the second message. I couldn't deal with a douche like that even for a set of OZ Racing wheels.

Sweet, this is good progress! Keep 'em coming. Damn I wish I had access to the machinery you do. Then again if I did, I probably wouldn't have the time to do my own stuff. :(

As has been said before, it is the joke that just keeps giving. Every few months it crops back up, nice to see you've stepped back & asked what the go is, rather than get into an epic rage over it. :) There's a few other filters, but we might just let you find them on your own. ;)

Because I know how much you all drool over this car (and rightly so)... Or, was it this one? :P Meh, they're both cool! The full album can be found by clicking here. -
I have the funny feeling that I was having a chat to you next to a red AE82 Twin Cam & didn't realise it at the time... WMMH - Finally getting my tax done, now the waiting game begins.

A bit of a bad news, good news update. The bad news is I started assembling the head last night, got up to the fourth valve & realised that I'd been a bit eager to get started & hadn't washed the head properly/blown out with compressed air. I also noticed that I had been so keen, I'd also neglected to put the valve stem seals on. So it was strip it all apart & wash it again, by the time that was done it was bed-time & I was back at square one. Slightly demoralising to have made no progress, but lesson learnt & better than realising after it's all together. The good news is that I picked up my intake manifold flange from SamQ & also, installed the 20kw power upgrade sticker on the back window. I give no $h1ts what colour it is. ;)- 539 replies
