  1. That's quite an impressive list, good luck! 38 Days to go, just sayin'... ...that I have no chance of Blue Thing having a new heart in time. *sigh* However, I do hope that all of you have made much better progress than I have. If not, better step on it because. THIS. WILL. BE. AWESOME.
  2. I'm not going to go & get too far ahead of myself, but it does inspire a little confidence for Round 10. This will now be at Werribee on the 24th of November as Sandown's carpark is.....a little worse for wear after the heavy machinery used for track resurfacing had a crack at it. I'll put up Supp Regs etc when I get ahold of them. He's probably more pissed at the number of flags he hit! ;)
  3. You're kidding right? Do you realise how hard it is to type when your keyboard is covered in drool?!?! ;) F**king awesome man, love it. :y:
  4. Provisional results came in today, I FINALLY BEAT THE CIVIC!!! Albeit by less than 1 second overall, I don't care, I'll take it! :D I placed 22nd out of 43 Outright, 23rd on Handicap & 10th out of 17 in Class A. Also managed to finish ahead of an AE82 Twin Cam...the grass surface was like rain, levels the playing field. Rear wheel-drive cars did not seem to fare too well. Action photo courtesy of Mr BS. P.S - I now officially qualify for an "I beat Batch" t-shirt too, he may have been giving Henry a shakedown run but I'll take it! :y:
  5. I suppose I had better elaborate on this a little now that things are no longer a secret. Each year, the Toyota Manufacturing Plant in Altona hosts for their employees & their families, what they call their Ekiden Family Day. They hire out the entire leisure centre/rock-climbing facility across the road, there's food everywhere, animals for the kids, the works. It's one of their ways of looking after & saying thankyou to their employees. Okay, I nut-shelled it a bit, but it's a massive event. This is NOT open to the public, however last year the Toyota Car Club of Australia were invited to put on a static display of our Toyotas in their main carpark. Blue Thing did not attend as well...look at her... This year we have been invited back again, but the ante has been upped. We will also be putting on a display motorkhana event (supported by CAMS & the VMC Panel) in the main carpark area. We (event drivers by invite-only) will also be taking employees/family members who are brave enough to ride shotgun for exhibition runs. There will be no timing, it's not a competitive event, but it will be the first motorkhana exhibition/display since Albert Park in 1994. I was lucky enough to be invited to be one of the drivers, so Blue Thing & I will be tearing up (metaphorically of course!) Toyotas main carpark in mid-November! :greenbounce: Back on topic, Round 9 of the VMC was on yesterday in Pakenham, beautiful weather! I was expecting the majority of the surface to be dirt, with patches of grass here & there. It was long grass everywhere, which concealed the kinda bumpy, potholed surface below. Suffice to say, there was no grip where we were racing, but plenty of it far off course! In-car footage can be found here: I'll apologise in advance for the fish-bowl effect, the surface was so rough & made the footage so shaky I had to let YouTube mess with it so you can actually see what's happening.
  6. Haven't gotten as far as I'd like to have, but all is good so far. Pistons have rings on them & side clearances are perfect. This obviously came after checking the end gaps. Mains in, ready to check oil clearances.
  7. I'll be the first to admit I've got nothin'... Although the camshaft knock-pins being out of alignment can't be good unless the cam-spec's require it. Any part or ID number on the cams that you can see?
  8. Yay! Now I can get into the really fun part! See you all in a few days.
  9. Cheers guys, I appreciate the comments as it means I'm heading in the right direction! I feel kinda bad re-using the rods/pistons but since new ones add too much to the build cost & I'm not running stupidly high compression/boost, they will suffice. New rings arrive tomorrow, for a $10 difference between a set of cast & chrome rings, chrome please!
  10. It could, could also be a buggered wheel bearing causing it. Since you've just had the wheels balanced & presuming they did a proper job of it, I would be looking into other causes i.e driveshaft etc.
  11. New core plugs in, happy-hammer-fun-times. Good news, all I need is a set of standard-size piston rings, no special-sized jobbies. Win! The gap measurements are from the existing rings, so allowing for any wear a fresh set should see me by. Suppressing the urge to "bugger the measurements & just slap it together" is harder than I expected, but f*ck it, I only want to have to do this once.
  12. That's a sweet bargain! I do not envy you with the electrical work, good luck with it! :y:
  13. Looking so good even without the front bumper, just pop the grille badge on & done I think. :)
  14. Bathurst this weekend, the Winton 6 Hour/VMC Round 9 next weekend, finally CC&D the weekend after! If you're Facebook inclined, you can join the event here: https://www.facebook...70118/?source=1
  15. Methinks you suspect wrong. ;) That is the sexiest K-motor I have yet to lay eyes upon, looking forward to videos when you get to that stage! (no rush, good things take time!) :)
  16. +1 !!! I am drooling in anticipation.
  17. That wasn't meant to be a taunt, that was meant to be a compliment to your attention to detail
  18. :y: Unless you have a particular brand preference or have an engine that for some reason requires that specific oil, you'll be fine. I'm a Castrol kinda guy myself :P Having said that, I haven't got the exacting specifications for things that you have. ;)
  19. Greetings, it's just me again reminding you all that our Monthly Meeting is on tomorrow evening (Tuesday 8th October). You can find us at the Bells Hotel (upstairs), 157 Moray Street, South Melbourne, meals from 6:30pm & the meeting starts at 8:00pm. $14 mains on Tuesdays, love it! Google Maps Link here: http://goo.gl/maps/2Z04X As always, both members & people interested to find out what it's all about, are all welcome to attend. I can relate to this, hope you had fun/success.
  20. Greetings, have you read here? : http://www.tccav.org.au/?page_id=14 :) Once the Pre-Approval paperwork has been completed, you have the option of either obtaining a RWC or booking it in to be inspected by our Club Inspector. This is effectively a RWC & safety issues regardless of vehicle age will not be overlooked. As Bowler mentioned, legislation may be changing to requiring a RWC regardless of the car, the joy of today's world!
  21. Oh dear, although seeing the look on the tyre guys face would have been priceless! :lolcry:
  22. The 4A-GE engine is fuel injected, there was never a carburetor-version of the GE (the E in the engine code standing for Electronic Fuel Injection). If the Twin-Cam engine is fitted with a carb, that has been converted by an owner somewhere along the line. Have a quick read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_AE86
  23. Dyno torque figures are hard to believe when you've seen a stock 4A-GE make 900+Nm before. Unless it's calibrated, they're usually just good for a laugh :)
