  1. Nice spot! Not only because they're tiny, there's not a whole lot of them in the country either!
  2. Thanks mate, it's as easy as following the step-by-step instructions in the book, cross-referencing with the 4AGE manual in PDF form. Easy enough when you say it fast anyway! First time --> Means I'm nervous about everything! As long as it's VROOM, not VROOo...*crunch*. This me playing around with MovieMaker.
  3. I haven't commented so far, but it seems appropriate to now. Congratulations man, hope it all goes smoothly. Awesome work! P.S - Belated Happy Birthday! :P
  4. Cheers man, I have a serious headache right now, but it's worth it. The moment I spun the crank with it all assembled & it spun freely, BEST!
  5. All good to go! Probably the most nervous I have ever been in my life thus far! Well, number one went in okay. No lubricant on bearing first time around, check oil clearance with Flexigauge, clean, lubricate, assemble, hope like heck you did it right! Repeat three more times. This is looking promising, rotates freely too!
  6. I had to get yet another visa to head across town to get, wait for it, a single gasket. The one for the rear-main oil-seal retainer/housing. The one I thought I had but didn't. Then a bolt broke... Drill & rotate out. Fixed! Dug this little gizmo out of the cupboard, an unknown manufacturer crankshaft under-drive pulley. Sitting inside a standard crank pulley gives an idea of the diameter difference. Should help the alternator & water pump live long, healthy lives. Seeing as I will be running neither Air-Conditioning or Power-Steering, only need the one thanks.
  7. Now that we're getting towards the tail-end of the wait for Classic Japan, I guess you're all starting to have an idea of what you'll be attending in or on in the case of motorcycles. I can but offer an AE80 with an obscure engine/gearbox combination, what are you bringing along this year? :)
  8. WGMG - *insert rant here*
  9. I wanted to save money as much as possible on this build & intended to reuse the standard oil-pump. Then I looked at what I'd have to do to clean it, then thought about the consequences of pump failure. Yeah, no. Had I been a bit more organised, I could've spent a lot less time travelling the Monash Freeway this long-weekend... On the bright side, I have a brand new 4A-GE 20v ST oil pump that has been ported/high-flowed from Sam at SQ Engineering, who also hooked me up with a brand new OEM rear-main oil seal. All for around half of what Toyota themselves would want for a standard 16v oil pump, for the price I'd be bloody stupid not to! SQ are also a sponsor of TCCAV, so I got a little discount too! :)
  10. Well, today was fun! Kinda. Main bearing oil clearance check was going well. Stupid clumsy me got careless removing the main caps after 'squishing' the Plastigauge, gouged up a bearing shell nicely on the crank. Lots of swearing, followed by phone calls to my engine machinist to discover he's closed today. Oh well, skip the middle-man, called Precision Bearings Head Office which is about an hours drive to the other side of the city for me, they have the ones I need in stock so off we go! Got home, only to realise that I had forgotten thrust washers....it's okay, I asked my local Repco to order me some yesterday & they were meant to call me back... Called the guy I spoke to previously: Repco - "Nah, we're still waiting on a price" Me - "I can tell you the price, I'm asking you if you have ordered them like I asked you to this time yesterday?" Repco - "No need to get ups....." Me - "HAVE YOU ORDERED THE F@&KING THINGS OR NOT?!?!" Repco - "Uh, no... Me - *Hangs Up* So I drove ANOTHER two-hour round trip to the other side of the city for new thrust washers from Precision. $8.50 as opposed to the $60 inc freight charge Repco were going to slug me. [end] /rant Oil clearances also checked out A-Okay on the new, new bearings (as did crankshaft end-play) so this is where it's at at the moment.
  11. I know nothing of this, but I support this decision fully! :y:
  12. +1 I am a huge fan of Enkei RPF1's, I know they are like the Volk TE37's & get put on EVERY car, but they are so sexy, it doesn't matter! The downside is the cost. :(
  13. Why not just type 'ke70 wagon/panelvan' into a Google image search & make the decision yourself? It's a set of wheels, hardly something I imagine you'd have difficulty with. Actually, as it's your car, if others are making the decisions for you, you're doing it wrong.
  14. Wining! How are the bushes? You have a thing for the boot-space of a Seca don't you? :P
  15. You reckon? Too busy playing with dirty Holden engines. :P Woo hoo! Knowing what you were going to do with fuel choice now makes parts selection easier. It doesn't make it any bloody cheaper, but it makes it easier! It will be worth it.
  16. I thought so too! It works like this: the car must have it's A-pillar (or thereabouts for the Specials) lined up between the two start/finish flags, the timer starts when the wheels start rolling, the timer stops when the front of the car crosses the line between the two flags & the driver must have at least part of the car crossing the line (either front or back) when stopped for it to be 'garaged correctly'. I've been running VMC events only, so it was not what I was used to. But as there were quite a few Juniors there for the CAMS JRace (children as young as 12), the slightly more relaxed atmosphere seemed to suit & help them. The Eastern RWD Special, I'm not sure of the setup of the one that won the SEAC AMC in Mount Gambier in early October, but it could be the one driven by a lovely lady from Sydney? There's a mix of FWD & RWD Specials in the VMC as well, could be one of those? :) By the sounds of things, this old RWD car is not something you would want to risk wrapping around a tree by rallying (which is completely fair!). A cheap, replaceable FWD is definitely the go. The price premium you mention is one of the reasons I like FWD so much. Compare market price of an AE82/92 Twin Cam versus an AE86, 'nuff said. But like you said, yes a RWD does tend to be quicker on tarmac than a FWD.
  17. If it were legal to marry a car, I'd wife this in a heartbeat. This means: Love your car, love your friends photography work! Thankyou for sharing! :)
  18. I went down to the Group 5 Round 9 at Werribee after CC&D today to time-keep. Next thing I know, I'm driving a rear-wheel drive car in anger for the first time in a decade. My brains concept of physics went "Huh?" :blinks: I'm going to stick to what I know methinks!
  19. Best pack a rattle gun with a 14mm socket, you'll have a f*ckton of bolts securing them to the floor to undo first. Worth it though.
  20. Awesome turnout this morning for CC&D, somewhere around 40 cars came along for our last CC&D for the year. Some of my favourite shots: You can find all of the rest here: https://picasaweb.go...feat=directlink
  21. This my definition of temptation. Monitored security cameras are a real buzz-kill. :(
  22. Many thanks for coming on-board & posting up photos of your ride! It's great to see models that aren't really common anywhere in the world in such good condition & being well looked after. I hope she brings you much joy during your ownership.
  23. Upon closer inspection, he hit the same number of flags as I did, two. Probably because he's used to driving the Roadster for so long, while Henry has just been sitting around doing nothing. With the Ekiden Day coming up & the Eunos Roadster not allowed in, some bugs needed ironing out beforehand. :) Now that I've managed to beat the Civic & Batch in a proper event, the next goal is to see if I can complete an event with NO penalties at all.
  24. We will not be allowing car-trailers inside the venue, so unloading/loading will have to take place outside, on public road. Which is not legal when the vehicle is unregistered & temporary permits do not cover you for this kind of activity. Sorry to be the wet blanket on your plans, but it is public road & public land. Thus fines (around $700 the last I checked) & demerits for driving an unregistered vehicle apply, not to mention the hassles it would cause us (TCCAV) & pretty much everyone else there.
