All Toyota Winterfest - Caribbean Gardens - Sunday July 14Th
carbonboy replied to silverra23's topic in VIC / Melbourne
I was waiting for the flyer to convince me to attend... I suppose I'd better wash BT before this...bugger. -
Yay, Supp Regs are in! You can find them for the June 23 event at Sandown here.

After discovering something like that, I'd be having a cup of something a little stronger than tea, but each to their own. :) Could that be a fault from when the headers were manufactured, a dodgy weld falling apart over time from heat cycling?

Amazing how much of an impatient little bugger you seem like, there are any number of reasons why a courier company can take longer than they quote for delivery & no, they don't have to give a reason why. $h1t happens, you're dealing with it in the completely wrong way by bitching on a public forum & not contacting the one person who could help you out.

Reactivated my long-dormant Amazon account & realised just how good they can be for things you don't need immediately. Valve-stem seal pliers, valve lapping tool/paste, piston ring pliers & compressor all ordered from the States for two-thirds of what it would've cost me to walk into a store here & buy it. Delivery time was pretty good too, all within 7 business days. :y: Have found a person/business to do the cylinder head machining work for me, one that is also willing to work with me on how much of the work I do myself to keep costs down. It's always a good sign when they answer the phone at 4:55pm on a Friday afternoon & spend the next hour being more than happy to discuss with you what you need based on what the engine will be used for versus what you want based on urban myth. Sometimes customer service isn't required, sometimes it makes or breaks a sale. :)- 539 replies

I think they will, as A series engine --> C series gearbox. My AE80 with a 2A-C came with a C40 (4 speed) gearbox, I have had bolted up to it: an AE82 C50, an AE92 C52 & currently, an AE101 C56. You may have to swap the brackets on the gearbox that bolt to the mounts on the cross-member over with your existing ones, as there are differences in the brackets between models. You will also need to swap your existing speedometer drive unit in the gearbox with the one in the AE101, if the AE101 item is electronic as opposed to a cable drive item found in earlier gearboxes.

Now you mention it, I have him to beat too! The gentleman I had in mind was Mr Barnfather, driving an orange Golf. Watching him is like watching a Dr Jekyll when outside the car, then Mr Hyde when inside the car. In a good way.

Ahh, I hadn't done my homework & got the impression that Mr Dwarf cleaned up all the time, sorry to have brought that up. :( I did some homework & found this, a few familiar names (even for me) in there: http://www.motorkhan...l_Placings.xlsx . Don't worry Colin, once I'm out of Novice I won't be winning Class A anytime soon, not only is there MH & his Civic to beat first, there's a Mini or three & a quiet looking older gentleman who flings an '80's Golf around like there's no tomorrow.

I was chatting with him at Sandown (the t-shirts were his idea) about it, he was under the impression that there was still a time limit, so he thought "what the hell, why not?". He'd been out of things for a few years & had switched clubs from Toyota to Honda in that time, I don't blame him, heck I probably would've tried it too! I'm pretty sure that's exactly the reason they changed things, to stop people who've been out of the game for a bit just coming back & mauling poor noobs like myself. Will find out exactly what the rule is now that my curiosity is piqued. Don't you mean you've accumulated the odd VMS Trophy in the past? :P

Funny you guys mention that, ol' mate MH in his Civic tried it in Round 1, he got a polite but firm "please explain" from the VMC Committee. I believe the ruling is you're ineligible for Novice Class if you have ever accumulated points in the VMC previously. :)

He's aiming 165 (or 195) degrees in the wrong direction... :P

The results came in from Round 4 at Sandown, I finished 7th of 14 in Class A, 25th of 40 Outright & beat a new-ish Peugeot 206 to take out the Novice Class. I did manage to clock faster times than Batch in the first two tests, but he had a good run from there & finished 13th Outright. I'll work on it, that was my first time on tarmac where he seems to have a pretty good feel for his Roadster now. (Please note: this isn't a serious thing, just good-natured competition & most importantly, FUN for me) Made the mistake of looking at the time sheets at the event...got talking with the owner of the Mini (running semi-slicks) who regularly wins Class A (& sometimes beats the specials outright) & we noticed I'd beaten him by 0.05 of a second on the first test. Had a bit of a laugh about it, the next seven tests he beat me by between 4.0 & 6.0 seconds, #owned anyone? :)

Blue Thing: The Daily / Motorkhana Hack (Now Efi)

Updates.....yeah.....those things... Not a lot has happened really, competed in Round 4 of the VMC, first time on tarmac so I found how quickly you can shred a a set of tyres using the handbrake. Fortunately I've since picked up another two sets of 14" wheels with tyres for dirt cheap (I think I have every kind of factory wheel for the AE80/2's now) so I have tyres for both off & on-road use. Total count that are not currently on a car: 3 x 13", 19 x 14" & 7 x 15". I reckon I'm sufficiently stocked up! :laff: The engine build has had the 'Pause' button hit due to works at home, they went from re-tiling the shower to discovering it was all stuffed, ripping it out & rebuilding from scratch in a real hurry. Between all my commitments, my spare time has vanished, C'est la vie.- 539 replies

I love reading this thread, gives me so many ideas on how to get things done & keep it simple. :y:

At that price I'm a few fish-tanks & Xbox controllers short, but that is some awesome work. Nice job! :y:

^ That makes me happy.

Sadly I'm not much of a seller, more of a buyer of bits. Came home with a back seat full of tyres to wear out at upcoming motorkhana events, so I'm a happy chappy. :D My attempts at being creative, promptly gave up. Om nom nom nom..... A few members of the 86 Owners Club came along, a pleasure to have them. As did the members of AE86DC, who held their swap meet in conjunction with this event. It was a pleasure having them too, except for one guy in particular. Just as a personal observation, his behaivour was a little bit below what I hope for. All the rest can be found here.

Nice work, I'm not that talented however :P On tarmac in his Roadster he beats me, no question, for now. Once the new engine goes in & I maybe throw some semi-slicks on the front, it could be more interesting. On dirt however *cough* tandem straight slalom at practice day *cough* it's a different story. So that makes three of those shirts, four if I order one in advance for me... Edit: Hopefully we will have another Rollaclub member *cough* kickn5k, webers4x48 *cough* out at Sandown on June the 23rd for Round 5 of the VMC. This round was to be held at the DECA grounds in Shepparton but has been relocated to Sandown because reasons. Must remember to fit that front swaybar so I can get two wheels off the ground instead of just one this time. I'll have a link up to the Entry Forms/Supp Regs as soon as I have them.

:lolcry: I'll make sure I ask him about this next time I see him. Speaking of Batch, a few of us in the VMC were thinking of getting some t-shirts made up saying "I just want to beat Batch", can I put you down for one? We were also thinking of getting him one that says "I'm Batch". :D

Bumpage for this, as CC&D at Brimbank Park is on this Sunday morning! We congregate in the main carpark right at the end of the entry road (mind those speed-humps) & hit up the Leaping Lizard Cafe for our caffeine fix. For a Google Maps link, click here. We welcome cars of any make, doesn't need to be a Toyota to come along so if you're worried about that, don't! Just come along. From what I hear, AE86DC will be holding their swap meet in conjunction with this months CC&D, so if you need some bits for your ride, might be worth checking out. Junes event is being tweaked a little, still the same location etc, but I'm working on a little surprise for y'all. Stay tuned. :y:

Ever wondered how a new '86 would go against an AE86? On dirt, it goes like this:
-
I can't imagine those two runs would've been too fast, fun perhaps but not fast with all that wheelspin :P I'm not game to run those tyres again, too many handbrake manaouvres. Have a few spare tyres stockpiled, hopefully enough to get me through the rest of the year. May get some semi-slicks for lolz :D

A little disappointed I didn't have a white KE11 to run against in the Novice class today... :sob: Round 4 today at Sandown was quite good, we could see a sprint day on the actual race circuit going on, while we were in the Jockeys Carpark. :laff: There was a fair bit of loose gravel over the bitumen surface, so grip wasn't 100% & some good slides were possible, handbrake assisted in my case. Again, I had a WD (on the the Tophat of all courses...) & collected a few flags along the way, at least I didn't smash a side mirror on the flagpoles this time. The videos from today can be found , the smoother surface helped quality a little but I'm still going to have to get a GoPro or similar that can take the bumps/jolts. One day Blue Thing, you can play with the big boys. Until then, you're stuck playing in the carpark! The owner of the white Liberty was driving an Evo 6, that blew its rear diff on the second course. So he drove his daily instead so he & his mate could continue to compete in the same class. Good stuff I say! :y: Tarmac takes a toll on tyres...

Apologies for the delay in getting these uploaded (emergency shower rebuild), but here are the Entry Forms/Supp Regs for the VMC Round 4 at Sandown hosted by NCCA that's on May 12. (Yes, tomorrow!)
