  1. It's quite possible, I just don't have that kind of money  If I was going to be paying hundreds of dollars to lay on my back & talk about my problems, I'd be going to someone other than a therapist  It's taking all the mental strength I have to NOT bog all the spot welds around the hatch area, holding out well so far. :laff: There is maybe a little bit of not wanting to do the roof as I know what a headache it's gonna be...might be cutting out the welded in piece yet as new information has come to my attention, still deciding :hmm: Humourous/tongue-in-cheek tone noted  All good man, havent had trouble interpreting your posts yet :P I think of things this way: If I spend this amount of time making stuff you probably wont see look good, imagine what I'm gonna do with stuff you can.
  2. Okay, I know it's a wheel tub, but... I wasnt happy with how the flat sections going from the centre to the sides looked in the light/shadows :( It gave away that the shape wasnt quite right. Also wasnt happy with the feel of the curve from horizontal to vertical at the rear, so gave that a sand too. Determined I didnt like the rest of it either  Please excuse my scribblings if you notice small pencil marks, they were my notes on what was needed & where. Previously mentioned pinholes, darn air entrapment! Some primer to cover bare metal. Then some spray putty where needed. I had intentions of doing some minor bog work, however it was late & not to sound soft but, F-ING COLD last night :( The little electric heater I had did virtually nothing so gave up when I realised I couldnt feel my hands or feet.
  3. Agreed! ^^^^^ Questions/comments about ads like this from small children are awkward at the best of times, even more so when it's not your child! Such as in my case when my housemates daughter (aged 9 at the time) turns around and asks "What's a s1ut?". :blinks: While I'm here... WGMG - ads on radio played over & over & over again! Frank Walker from National Tiles, Jenny from Leafbusters & Geoff Harvey from Harvey Norman: just SHUT UP!! :(
  4. Yes, you can stick (arc) weld stainless steel. You just need to be using stainless steel rods instead of your conventional mild steel ones, I believe they are available in several thicknesses depending on the work you're doing & should be available from welding supply stores. I know Bunnings has the mild steel ones, not too sure about SS though :hmm: You've welded stainless steel to mild steel? Being two different metals & the filler rod only being designed for one of them, how would this go for structural integrity? :blinks: Arc welders (IMHO) are not the greatest for doing thinner materials (i.e intake pipe), they just feel too brutal & don't have the finesse of a MIG/TIG. Kinda like pruning Grandmas roses with a chainsaw instead of secateurs, it can do it but it may get messy :laff: If it's your remaining option (I was really hoping the welding boys would have time to help ya :( ), go for it man! Oh, photos of your work too!!
  5. Man, that's a lot of tissue boxes in one place! When I first read the topic I was thinking of the Westgate Bridge here in Melbourne... :lolcry: The shots look awesome mate, my favourite's the beige/cream (?) coloured slant-front with the black bonnet & seriously horny looking wheels! Big thumbs up to whoever owns that one!
  6. You know, back when you had the little  next to "I think you'll all like it" the suspicion of an Aurion briefly flashed across my mind. It was dismissed as I didnt think you would! :no2: What was the selling point? Aside from the push button start... --> dfunkt has one of those in his 1969 Corona!
  7. Not a ute, TRD too pricey, not import, not subtle.... :hmm: Toyota Aurion!!! :lolcry: Oh god I hope not. Landcruiser!
  8. Agreed ^^^ :) Those cheap, gasless welders are not the greatest bit of gear. Better off to spend the money on drinks for the guys you get to do the job (IMHO), beer or JD seems to be universal currency! If you do get one though, practice, practice, practice, then do the job. :y:
  9. I give... I can wait the week, will keep my eyes open :)
  10. Except in management, shit goes uphill there  Which would you prefer? The 12 or 18 year old single malt? :D Is all I have... Pneumatics eh? :blinks: I can see that getting complicated & confusing REAL quick  Good luck with it! :) Cheers! :drinks:
  11. I can't help myself... TRD Hilux!
  12. Cert 3 Plumbing, Sanitary Drainage Stage :( Friggin regs just tell me what things need to be but not why which is the part I need to know. Annnnnnnnnnnd the online resources that are quoted as reference material in some of the questions are quite simply...not there :blinks: Stuff it...where's that scotch? :guiness:
  13. WGMG - Trying to catch up on a weeks worth of trade school theory work I missed, without the benefit of a teacher to decipher this gobbledegook for me :( Feels like I'm doing this ---> :bash:
  14. I'll put my prediction in now as the newbie being a Chaser... DO NOT tell me, we will see how badly wrong I am in a week or so
  15. Here's hoping it's a Toyota!!
  16. That one ^^^ That explains the lack of active members...I have NFI who or what Hammerdown is though :hmm: Getting on to the twincam.org.au site now, seems more appealing! Edit: No I'm not, it's just told me that all 3 of my email addresses are invalid :hmm: For that amount of effort you may as well stick the whole 4AGE engine in there... :lolcry: Just explored a little deeper into the AE86DC forums...these people are seriously warped right? :blinks:
  17. Go back to work then :P Seen twincam lately? Not so much the hatred though... Bonsai doori-doori spend all their money on cable ties so can't afford real prices for parts
  18. Cheers man :y: I know what I want as an end result & what it's going to take to get it... A lot of hard work :) Keeps me outta trouble I guess. I hope you don't mean large as in off-road large? :blinks: Not a chance of this going on the dirt once finished :laff: I'm confident I prepped it all properly so it's not just going to fall off. Hopefully I don't slap it on a speedhump resulting in the same thing
  19. Too kind... The photos don't show what I can see, but nothing a little spray putty/blade putty wont take care of! :) Next stop, that damn roof!
  20. I was in Bunnings today, they have a multipack of 4 Trojan ratcheting spanners in metric sizes for just over $20  Sometimes the distance from civilisation is the appealing part! :)
  21. Bugger man, not going at all well :( Hope it takes a turn for the better soon :y:
  22. And drives a military forklift with no brakes? :P
  23. Cheers mate, I figure if I do less than half decent work you guys on here will let me know about it  Erm....pass? Got home at 4am today, very, very sore from laying on back sanding :(
  24. Ouch! Nice ride, love the plates!
  25. When it's in the water only the fishes will see it, but that didnt stop me painting my boat in the image of Darth Mauls (Star Wars) face  Thanks man! :y: If it were to be inspected for RWC & there was this big, ugly, mangled-looking repaired section questions might be asked. If it looks like nothing ever happened here, mission objective completed  A few pinholes to fill here & there but all good otherwise. Think of this as my practice for the sunroof section
