  1. Glad to see you're realistic & not afraid to tackle it! Welcome to Rollaclub! :y: ^^^ Parrot's one of the guys with the goods on the info you're after. I don't envy you trying to track down KE1x Corolla bits, all the best of luck!! Ditto for keeping this thread updated, I'm interested to see how it comes up! :)
  2. That's not bad, better than I'd thought! Just swallow a magnet, that'll get it!
  3. The first time I was pulled over for a RBT I was on my L's in a manual Nissan Serena. I pulled up a bit short of the policeman waving the flashy orange stick thingy, didnt notice him walking towards me (trying to get 1st gear!), bunny-hopped forwards & kinda 'bumped' him over  By the time he got up, both my ol' man & I had our licence/permit out & apologies flowing profusely! He wasnt hurt, saw that I'd been driving the whole of two weeks & requested that I be a bit more careful in future
  4. Fair call :y: Also a fair call, also true, but also a great challenge to tackle for some
  5. Doesnt look like they even used Jiff... :hmm: I'd be arguing...you paid for a service & didnt receive it. Would probably end up taking business elsewhere too!
  6. Too much! :lolcry: I don't have a set budget, but at the same time I'm trying to keep it somewhat sensible. The topcoats are all sorted, probably going to have to buy another 4 litre primer as I want to go over it again after I've rubbed it all back so that the base coat goes onto the same surface everywhere, as you can tell the current stuff is a bit of a mix 'n match :( GOR 2013? :P Hoping for 2012, failing that, Picnic @ Hanging Rock. We'll see! I'm glad someone's looking forward to it :lolcry: Thanks man :y: it'll be a massive relief once this is done. I agree completely, big & flat-ish shows up imperfections something chronic. I think I went past the limit of my panel beating skills a while back... :laff: On a serious note I think I can get it a bit better, the more I look at it & think about it all, the more I think I've put it under stress/tension when I welded it :hmm: If I can release this, I should be able to pop it back to the shape I want (or better than current) & re-weld it there. Then that big batch of bog you mentioned... *Note* In case anyone's wondering, I hadnt planned on rebuilding this car, so the fact it had a hole where a sunroof used to be wasnt a problem then. I spent about 6 months trying to track down a sunroof to fit, the only ones I could find to fit the size hole I had were: brand new (Hollandia) were $2k (not-fitted), a NOS (brand I can't remember) $500 (not-fitted) & still required similar work to this one to make fit :( So when I was at Pick-A-Part hunting a side mirror for a friend & the car I got the mirror from had this with new-looking seals for $90... Plan B was to drill the spotwelds, remove the entire roof panel off both cars & swap over :blinks: I'd prefer to avoid that amount of work if at all possible!
  7. +1 for good work by Administrators/Moderators :y: When I first signed up I was somewhat nervous to post due to fear of getting my online butt kicked by Moderators...now I'm not so fussed  :P I've often wondered how many of the 11755 members that are signed up are actually active in the last...3 months? :hmm: It's not a JUSTICE system, it's a LEGAL system. 'Justice' implies equality & fairness, both of which are mostly non-existent in our current methods.
  8. Wet rag wash, metho wash, looking much better. The evenings work proudly motivated by... Spot near passenger wheel arch washed down & primered. Wire brush the whole kit & caboodle, wash down & primer!! As you can tell, there's still some more 'tweaking' needed but I feel better with some primer on it as it may be another day or three before I can get back to it :( Will just sand & prime again
  9. After Round 2 I'm wondering if I'm just making things worse? :hmm: Sit back & have a think about things... This is what I'm dealing with... A new plan of attack is born... Ground the welds back with grinding disc, then took a coarse brush to it, followed by fine brush on a drill for the hard to get at places. Now giving it a hit of rust converter :) Bubbly goodness. While that was doing its magic, I blocked back the MetalMend fill near the rear passenger wheel arch. Mmmm, no more rust! :D Oh yeah, when grinding metal, either keep your bloody hands out of the way or wear gloves. I have a fresh reminder that recently ground metal is hot... :bash: :bash:
  10. Happy Birthday man!
  11. Hey, you know how I love doing things in the exact order I orginally planned? :no2: Well I lasted about 10 minutes on my back sanding the outside of the wheel tub when I decided to get stuck into the sunroof area instead :laff: My thinking there was that I could sand the bog anytime, where I could only grind & bash things with hammers up until a certain time of night :) This is the first test fit of the sunroof frame...bugger me if it didnt just drop right in! No grind-hole-to-fit, no slop in the hole & generally straight :blinks: :blinks: :blinks: Oh yeah, some 'tweaking' needed here! and here.. And here. Inside view, the reason I filled the hole to move the sunroof forward is it made the release handle easier to grab from the drivers seat. Also had concerns about the handle fouling on the roof croos-beam if moved backwards :) There's something soothing about banging things with a hammer when you've had a sketchy week...Results of Round 1. I missed this? Gonna need some more lovin'.
  12. Umm, no I don't but I think I will be grabbing a cheap pair now . The trick will be getting a pair that sit nicely over the top of the nose section of my respirator & don't cause it to leak. A while back I was wearing a pair of glasses that didnt sit quite right whilst grinding with a wire brush, a strand broke off, bounced off my cheek, off the inside of the glasses & embedded itself in the tear duct of my eye :(. Got it out, no damage done but a powerful reminder of how easily things can go bad. Cheers mate, thanks for the tip! :y: I'm sure you do after your efforts on your panelvan! :laff: Which is lookin mighty sweet too btw . The upside of a lot of sanding is it can tone up the muscles in your arms quite nicely, so do a whole winters worth of sanding & hit the beach in summer to show off da guns! :laff: http://youtu.be/8z5JFc8-TQM (I can't link with pic, working on it lol) Thanks for the kind words, the photos don't show the little scratches/pinholes I can see in real life, plus I want to reshape the area that needed some loving. It just doesnt look right :hmm: If I'm going to do something like this, I may as well (that phrase AGAIN) do it properly. I don't think I'd ever be happy with the final result if someone could just get down on one knee & see the horrible looking original underside :S Yeah, its underneath, yes this will be street driven regularly, no I'm not exactly looking forward to doing it :P There will be a few twists on how it came off the production line, just enough to define this as my take on Toyotas efforts
  13. Harder to get than a KE70 sunvisor? :laff:
  14. Backyarder anyone? If you've seen the work & the results, no joke. :no2: Okay, so FWD cars don't have the laws of physics on their side at the drags, but not everyone wants to rip skids or be bonsai dooriftu :P P.S Yeah, I laughed at the Integra too :laff:
  15. If it's from my head hitting the roof, I'll bring a helmet :P If it's from the exhaust, 4AGE + LOUD = Aural Pleasure
  16. Yum yum yum, sexy brakes! :D Bummer about the spanner who played with your brakes before you :( Good to see you got that issue sorted :y: I was just wondering if you mind if I hop in the passenger seat for a little bit next meetup? I'll make sure I don't dirty your interior  (looks awesome btw!) Keen to see how she goes if I can.
  17. I've used ropes in a purchase system running off my strut braces for this before  Yes crude, but effective. Had a jackstand with a thick block of wood on top of it supporting the engine from underneath as well. :) +1 for remembering to disconnect your thermostat housing etc from the box before removal! :y: I also recommend an assistant to help putting it back in, they've got a bit of weight to them, its offset to one side & getting it in by yourself involves a lot of grunting & swearing, not sure which it's more of :laff:
  18. I think my Rolla & my mates Mini have been up to naughty business, because when I walked in last night there was a new addition to the family! It's getting...a little full in here :( Sanded back MetalMend, would've been easier to hit it quickly with a wire brush first but meh! Dust it off, wash it down, bog it up! :) The fun part today is going to be sanding this without filling my face with bog dust :( I use a half-face respirator to prevent breathing it in but safety glasses can't stop it getting in your eye occasionally & goggles fog up too quick :( Then again if I think this is fun, wait until I get down here...
  19. They are honest places in a way...at least you know for certain that they are only interested in you for your money :D
  20. On the upside, at least it's not divorce, domestic violence or something MORE messed up. Yay for stitches coming out! Damn workplace politics, maybe report a workplace OH&S issue to stir 'em up? :P Just kidding! I hope it healed up okay, I took a groove out of my hand one day with a 5" grinder, my thumb hasnt felt the same since :(
  21. Tip: Cover your distributor with a plastic bag, after cleaning it'll be that much easier to start! :) That's if you didnt already know that one! I learned the hard way as not only did I have a water-logged dizzy, I also semi-filled my spark plug valley with water :laff:
  22. It'd be touch & go...(no pun intended) my heart says give it a go while my brain doesnt like your chances. Making it, yes...without scraping...probably not :( It's a 20kn/h speed limit along that road & I went over one at 10km/h in Blue Thing, severe is one word to use....There's a dent in my roof & a lump on my head. They would all warrant at minimum slowing to a crawl, with two of them probably needing a little diagonal movement as well. Think of the ones at the last CC&D & you're pretty close  I'll be out that way tomorrow with Loki (F-ing vet visits :( ) so I'll take a tape measure & some photos (& a jackhammer :laff: ). Or I can just get around to yours & help you get the 'Rona up to scratch if you're free.
  23. :blinks: :blinks: :blinks: Some questions have to be raised about whether this is information that you really needed to know or not... :hmm: Damn straight! :P It's not like you can do anything about where you're from, except lie :laff:
  24. It's quite simple, their personal opinion/taste is simply different to yours :)
  25. It burns, it burns!! :argh:
