Flywheel Bolts - Want To Know Why You Should Replace Them?
furryfrog replied to philbey's topic in General Mechanical
Yeh ive always been a fan of replacing them, can't say ive come across ones like yours though someone went to town on them. funny thing is i went to coventry a few days ago to get some for my motor and they don't have the correct pitch I'm after, i think its 1.00 which is heaps fine, looks like its off to nissan. I remember seeing a photo of a vlt where the flywheel came flying through the passenger side of the transmission tunnel scary stuff. -
Been there done that i know exactly how you feel but at least you walked away without anything serious i assume. Whats the ETA on the new shell?

wow... i would hate to be his mechanic lol

Headgasket or cracked cylinder head or block, pull the head off and you will know for sure.

Just quickly front wheel bearings are easier to check jack the front end up from the sub frame so the wheels are off the ground, grab the wheel at the top and bottom and with your top hand push towards the car while with your bottom hand pull away from the car, then repeat in the opposite order, if you have any play you will feel it. I suck at explaining things.

I've done a few rear axle bearings in ke70s and other BW diffs, the easiest way to get em off is with a small angle grinder to cut the retainer leaving a 1 or 2 mm and using a chisel to break the last bit. Ive never had to heat up the retainer to put it on but you have no chance without a big ass press. I changed one recently that had collapsed and smashed the oil seal up, but it was obvious cause of the grinding noise from the wheel. As irokin said pulling an axle out and spinning the bearing will let you know the condition, it should spin freely, a dying one will be pitted inside and feel notchy. If they are stuffed its best to remove the axles and take them to a good mechanic to change the bearings, good idea to change the seals aswell.

They are the same internally In the R31 it made slightly more power. Also the GTS1 and GTS2 again made more power both had different exhausts, cams and i believe the gts2 even had a piggy back computer. Also in the vl s1 and s2 blocks are different, you want the s2 for turboing as the oil feed/return and water feed/return just have bungs in them. s1 motors you need to drill and tap.

Have you got any updates on progress?

I like the 2door ke30s, they almost look like a 4door its strange. I'm glad you are painting it i only see mustard corollas getting around now.

Got My Girlfriend To Model For My Car
furryfrog replied to Mybowlcut's topic in Rollaclub Social (Off-Topic)
Should of read the replies here before letting the other page load, what a letdown. -
if you can get a chisel and hammer to it then just loosen it that way or try using a good 6point socket that wont stretch if it isnt too badly rounded. easy outs are always a good last resort just easy to snap if you don't drill the hole deep enough.

Looks nice, i prefer the hardtops with square headlights. As for the engine they are both have their good and bad each person will tell you one is better than the other. By now they have all had a hard life so it comes down to condition and personal preference, I would grab whatever come around at the right price. You can get new carpet from a mob called 'Knox auto carpets' get to choose colour and what style its a 2 piece moulded carpet and i must say new carpet looks overrated in an old car.

looking nice :) what did you end deciding on with the radiator?
-
i didnt know they made a .48 rear, that seems very small for a turbo of that size.
-
Looks nice, for the gauges i have mine under the heater controls, not in the way of my legs, boost is on the column. any chance you could get a few pics of your engine mounts? ive gotta take my motor out so its giving me a chance to do them again.

Standard r31 diff is 1460mm.. They come in these varients. R31 Skyline Manual - 3.7:1 28 Spline axles 4 pinion R31 Skyline Auto - 3.9:1 28 spline axles 4 pinion R31 Pintara Manual - 3.9:1 25 spline axles 2pinion R31 Pintara Auto - 4.11:1 25 spline axles 2 pinion The ke35/55 rolla diff is 1320mm iirc Ive heard of people using different offset wheels on ke7x and getting the diffs to work without shortening but that should a bit annoying to me. also the LSD centres in these diffs are pretty average been a cone type. edit: for the money its a good diff none the less, will take a beating and there are plenty of minispools available for the BW GL with the sale.

Haha yeh I've been missing in action for a bit, got knocked off my bike on the way to my girls house after work 3 weeks ago, wasn't my fault luckily although my bike is a write off and and car broke my right ankle as it T-boned me. I'm out for another 5 weeks so its pretty boring, lucky for workers comp :( Ive been collecting some parts for the corolla, give the little sr a bit of a power boost and then get it tuned. 130kw should be enough given what you are used to, its enough to get you in trouble :P I love looking over peoples projects always gives you that little bit of inspiration to do something.
