  1. Awesome! All I wanted to hear is that people thought the products were good or crap, and you all say yay, so I will be going the eBay way (hopefully without all that crappy unintentional corny rhyming I just did) Last time I checked (a while ago now though), Scott's Old Auto Rubber was pretty similar in price to Rare Spares. Yeah, Phil's rotaries basically sells the same aftermarket things, but for a higher price, I bought a boot rubber off him for my 55 about 2 years ago and I think he sent me the wrong one out in the first place, and then it took alot of convincing to get him to send me the right one out... I was thinking of buying locally, but I think over $600 is a bit of a rip when I can buy the rubbers, either as a kit or seperately for around $300 including shipping from Asia... Maybe if the kits over here were $400 -500 I'd think about it. Anyho, thanks for your help guys! You'll probably get an update on how the rubbers and things are going when I get the ke10 and start a project page up. It's probably going to be a pretty active project, as this is going to be my new daily drive, once it's together and going. It's basically been pulled apart, had a white 2pac spray job and that's as far as they got, so It's going to be like one big jigsaw puzzle for my partner and I as the earliest corolla we've owned is a ke20, which has never been completely together (yet). Cheers :rolla: Kylie
  2. Yeah, the roadworks are ridiculous. They can't do the roadworks one at a time, nooo, they have to have several different bits of roadworks going at the same time so that you have 3 times the amount of congestion, annoyance and confusion in one big wallop. WGMG The company that I work for is changing hands and my pay is going from weekly to fortnightly. I REALLY hate fortnightly pay. But as long as my pay rate does not decrease, it should be OK. Oh, and my boss said that we've "had it easy" with the old corporation that owned us, apparently the new one is going to be alot more stringent. I do my job, I work for my money, and even I'm worried there's a possibility I might lose it if they're going to be MORE stringent. I didn't think they could be any harder on us, truth be told. Oh well, at least by the end of the year I will be finished TAFE and I can find a different job... I'm so sick of working for a big, evil corporation. Give me the little guy anytime.
  3. Congrats! I'm glad he's doing well! Another little corolla lover to add to the global toynut community! :rolla:
  4. Ok, so we are about to acquire a couple of new cars on the weekend, a ke10 and a ke11. The ke10 has been deemed to be mine, but I think I'm going to need new rubbers for it, from what I remember. Now, the rare spares website lists a full rubber kit for a ke10 at around $640 but there's a bloke on eBay from Thailand selling 'reproduction' rubbers for alot cheaper, but not in a kit. I was wondering if anyone has had anything to do with this seller (lilavadee) or the products they sell? Are they noticeably bad? Or do they fit, and they just aren't quite as good as the genuine ones? The kits that rare spares are selling would probably be 'reproduction' too though, wouldn't they? Any help would be appreciated :rolla:
  5. I've heard that machining cast materials is bad as it takes the rigid external coating off and exposes faults/cracks in the material, thus leading to premature failure. I've also received lectures from tafe teachers and brake and clutch centre staff about this as well. By machined I meant lightening by machining, not resurfacing. Both are machining operations however :P I'm still poking around on the internet reading. Why didn't toyota make a forged steel flywheel for the 4k so it could be lightened? Damn cheap and easy manufacturing methods :P Robert. It just occured to me I'm logged in as Kylie ;)
  6. Hey Putting some thought into my next engine build, was thinking about a lightened flywheel. I'm just after some opinions on this, everybody I've spoken too seems to have their own STRONG opinions about this. Has anyone got a machined flywheel? where do you get them machined, how much did you take off, and how is your car to drive? what other mods have you got as well? There doesn't seem to be much mention on here of people machining flywheels, I know superjamie had a machined flywheel on oke250. I don't want to use an alloy flywheel for two reasons, a) the cost, and b) they wear out as fast as a clutch, makes for an expensive engine. I'm just interested in machining the cast flywheel. The engine i'm building is for a daily driven khanacross/motorkhana and maybe hillclimb/supersprint ke11. I'm putting a tighe 104 cam, electronic distributor, 4-1 extractors, 11:1 compression, and sprinter twin carburettors with a bigport spec cylinder head. Robert.
  7. Does anyone know if they used a K-series gearbox with a modified shifter and modified mount or an upright T-series box with a custom bellhousing?
  8. CUT51K on a new Suzuki Swift that got some fuel today. Thought it was pretty awesome.
  9. Robert recently thought I was going insane when I looked at the numberplate AK00FD and I had a dyslexic moment and thought it said AFOOKED
  10. You can usually hire them from servos. I think it costs around $100 for a day or something.
  11. My daily's a 55 with an un-original paint job (not by my choice - it's a pain in the ass colour to mix apparently) loud exhaust and grumpy lumpy 4K. In the few years I've owned it, I've had countless offers from people wanting to buy it and people cannot believe that it's the stock engine. I always get the dumbshits who ask "Aww! What's in that? Is that a rotary? Is that an 8?" etc. Ever since I've started working at my current job lots of people have commented on what a great car the old corollas are, how some of them used to own the model I have, etc. The only negative comments I've had are from the sort of people who don't like old school 4-bangers. These people either like their bommodores and falcons or their fully hectic ricers.
  12. your mum jokes
  13. WGMG: "Do you think they enjoy going to accident scenes and scraping young people off the road who have been speeding and driving recklessly? These people deal with the scum of society on a daily basis" Unless young people are now classified as anyone under 50, I totally disagree with this statement. The only age group I know of who don't have a proportion of their age bracket that speed and recklessly drive are the elderly. And half of the elderly are dangerous to other people because of the decline in vision, reaction time, stubborness and lack of knowledge of road rules. A broad section of people from all age groups crash. Introducing laws and tougher restrictions, harder tests, higher age for licensing etc is not going to make a significant difference in road tolls. Driving is dangerous. Everyone knows this. Driving is more dangerous when a) you don't know how to drive properly b) you don't follow the road rules c) you select an innappropriate speed for the road and conditions d) you act like a tool in a completely stupid spot The fact of the matter is that there are alot of dickheads on the road, and (shock, horror) Stupid P-plate drivers are proportional to stupid drivers who have their full license. There are always going to be dickheads, the best thing to do is to do what is right by you and other road users and attempt to stay out of the road of dickheads. If you see someone doing something stupid, report it to the police. If they're close to you, slow down, let them pass and stay out of their way so they don't hurt you as well. We have several people down our street in commodore and falcon utes hoon past us every morning and night on their way to and from work, none of them are 'young' they're between 28-38 years old. Heaven forbid any kids would be on the road when their doing a single wheeler up the street! Why can we not just introduce laws to target all unsafe drivers not just a certain age bracket?
  14. Can't you do this to a corolla that isn't in good nic? If you really want a 6 you should put either a 1MZ-FE, a 3MZ-FE, or best still, 2GR-FE. I reckon it would be awesome to see a 2ZZ-GE in an older corolla.
  15. Ha, ha! That song's awesome. ATM I'm listening to Funeral for a Friend - Memory and Humanity Thought I was going to be listening to full metal racket on Triple J, but I managed to get my days seriously confuzzled. I have discovered that today is Thursday, FMR is on Tueday's, Short Fast Loud is on Wednesday's and tonight is Roots n All. I was thoroughly disgusted that I was not going to get my hit of metal for the night :P
  16. Congrats! A nice and healthy seven pounder!
