  1. Wow... That's a nice car, although probably not worth $15,000 (yet). I really hope the previous owner was taken care of by the used car dealer. I can just imagine some poor old granny had traded it in for pennies. Nope, I wouldn't pay $15,000 for it. Try $8000 MAX
  2. Fantastic looking Coupe you have there, Tyler. Welcome to RollaClub! The answers you find, my friend, are all over this forum. YOU have to do the looking, though. :2thumbs: Just check out other members rides and see what they've done to unleash their cars "inner beast". We don't know what you're looking to get out of the car so are not sure what sort of "tweaks" you are looking at doing. The first things that you might normally do to give the car a little extra performance, could be a sports exhaust system, aftermarket carburettor ie weber, a good tune. MANUAL CONVERSION! ;) Then you could move onto things like shaving the head for higher compression, porting out your ports for better flow, lumpier cam grind etc. As for good places to get your car done I wouldn't have a bloody clue! I live in Canberra. Once again, great looking Coupe and I hope it treats you well.
  3. Nice project! :2thumbs:
  4. And it's fun! No offence, but the older majority of members aren't young anymore.. that's probably a reason why they don't understand :2thumbs: EDIT: Cool car! Good luck with the plans BRO
  5. It's a bit different to a Corolla but: When I was at school, a relief teacher brought his Niki-FSM 650 which had a flat four 2.0L engine sitting in the boot. He competed at hillclimb events and motorkhana's. When he first rocked up most of the people pointed and laughed at it... Until it was regularly beating their WRX's, Evo's etc. EDIT: It's registered too
  6. ;) to your effort so far. You must be serious about getting this done! Especially the hard bits. It's not my opinion, but I can't really see a Celica (especially TA22) going a stand-out green colour. Also since you're a fan of the Undertaker a dark colour would suit "you" more. Have you got an inspirational pic of what you want it to look like? :jamie: ;)
  7. Ahahaha. Some wreckers are so one-track minded. Sucks because there is only 1 decent wrecker in Canberra! :jamie: . Wow.. I didn't know you could get brand new lights from Repco! Is that about the extent of the cosmetic stuff for Ke70's that they sell?
  8. 'Twas in a garage. It did look as if it were driven by someone older.
  9. CLEAN WHITE KE10/11... That is all
  10. That's a nice price, Tommo. Although my friend knows a bloke that is (IIRC) a retired mechanic and KNOWS his stuff about carby's, I'll have to try him out first if he's still doing it. As for the cam, I have no freakin idea - it came in the 5k. You should ask some of the "senior" members on here. They generally know how best to get your cam done. The only thing I know about my cam is "35/75".. I have no idea what they mean, but I know the stock ones are something like 14-18/45-55 at a guess.
  11. hi rhys. it would most definitely be your carby. sounds like blocked jets. i think it would be a good idea to give your carby an overhaul or replace the one you have. its hard for us to tell whats wrong with your car over the internet. should ask family members friends etc if they know anything about carby cars. chances are they've owned a few!
  12. I just read this... Understanding Exhaust """For virtually all high performance purposes, backpressure in an exhaust system increases engine-pumping losses and decreases available engine power. It is true that some engines are mechanically tuned to "X" amount of backpressure and can show a loss of low-end torque when that backpressure is reduced. It is also true that the same engine that lost low-end torque with reduced back-pressure can be mechanically re-tuned to show an increase of low-end torque with the same reduction of back-pressure. More importantly, maximum mid-to-high RPM power will be achieved with the lowest possible backpressure. Period!""" EDIT: Another metaphor. If you have an orange gun with a 0.5L chamber and a 30cm wide barrel it will be useless, same goes for having an orange gun with a 10L chamber with a 1cm barrel. Think about it... what to do to make a good orange gun? :lolcry:
  13. Yes. By all means port your head, but to a certain extent. As he said: Velocity/air speed over volume is more important, as air speed will create volume. ie, the quicker the exhaust flows the better, not just how "wide" the ports are. I'm assuming that the more you port it the less easily the air flows in the direction that it needs to go. Like TRD KE70 said, it's very hard to explain lol. I may be completely wrong, but I think this is what TRD KE70 is trying to say (metaphorically). If you are blowing through a straw, it is very "tight" and the air all seems to flow very DIRECTIONALLY in a tight stream out the other end, but is still quite hard to blow out, leaving lots of "pressure" for you to push out. If you were to compare this to blowing through a vacuum cleaner pipe (or something bigger), the air only comes out very slowly, SWIRLING around sloppily in the pipe, slowing down the air behind it to a certain extent, also leaving you breathless very quickly as the pressure is released a little too quickly. I don't know how to tell, but you need to find a compromise of both straight-line flow (the straw) and diameter (thick pipe) to keep you happy. Obviously depending on the capacity and the ability of your lungs to push air, the size of your "exhaust" will be different. It is a strange metaphor I know, but to me seems quite effective.
  14. Good to hear guys! Did they tune it? How much did you pay for the job? I'm thinking of putting my rebuilt weber in and would like to get it tuned well. Are you pulling 200rwkw's yet, Tom? :) Hey Bart, I wouldn't have a damn CLUE what the 3k head is like. It has hornets nests etc in there, but with a reco itcould be good. I'd say it has most-likely been taken straight out of a KE20 and the 5k been put in (when I had the KE20's). It shouldn't have been tampered with, but may be a bit old. NEEDS reco, you can have for $20. As for the gearbox last time I went there to ask a price it was a bit pricey (like all wreckers)
  15. I don't know what types of rebuild kits you can get but that looks like a bearing and seal rebuild kit? (In the photo)
  16. ! Sigma's aren't all that bad. My friend has a GK GSR and they are actually quite a fun little machine. He put in some new shocks and low king springs and it handles amazingly well for the lack of other mods it has. (Although the GSR probably has thicker sway bars than a regular model) Otherwise it looks good :)
  17. Looks fantastic, Luke! Welcome to RollaClub. :D What are the mods that your mate did to it? Howso do you not agree with them, lol! If you were going to do some spending on making it go harder an engine conversion would be the way to go... I'm not too familiar with the Corona's, but what model engine does it have, Luke? There are probably a few VERY effective bolt in/small work options available for you! EDIT: Mods like the giant Toyota sticker on the windscreen? :) lol
  18. WTB URGENTLY: Looking for a KE70 5-speed, or any KExx Corolla 4-speed in good condition. Need to put in the blue KE70 so it is in drivable condition. My uncle and aunt are in their last legs of University and both need a car each to make things a lot easier. Should be one at Queanbeyan Auto Dismantlers, Sam! (If the car is still there) Give them a buzz!
  19. Seconded.. Detent balls are small, spring-loaded ball-bearing's that are above the gear selector forks. The selector forks have a small notch taken out of it for the detent ball to slide into when put in gear, which gives the distinct "clicking" sound and feel. I'd recommend taking it to a transmission shop/mechanic and getting them to sort it out as they are quite fiddly (this goes for gearboxes in general) to get in/out/fix etc. Wouldn't have a CLUE on price but I'm sure it wouldn't be more than about $250 at MAX. OR Search around and buy a second-hand, good-condition gearbox for probably the same amount or less. A good idea would be to ask people wrecking cars on here as they tend to sell them a decent amount cheaper.
  20. I was curious :D The grille looks good... Leave it how it is in my opinion! :)
  21. Wow, that's very cool! I really like this car, you've done an awesome job on it. I agree with LittleRedSpirit's comment about wanting his car to look like this. I'd love to own a KEsev looking like this! You should try a different colour for the Watanabe's.
  22. Wow, I'd be very happy with that! :P Nice shopping :)
  23. This car looks familiar........................................................... Weston Creek area much? Did you ever find a RollaClub pamphlet under your wiper? :) Hope the build is going well, would love it see it on future Canberra events :P Is it running (with the K engine) currently?
  24. Ahh, wouldn't have been able to get work off unfortunately. If I could have, (in the mind of the boss) I need to save my weekends off for more special occasions lol. They just don't understand :P If I remember I'll send you a txt to see how it's going. :)
  25. This car looks very classy with the Wherret specials and deep red. I thought it was nice without the bumper but now it looks a million bucks with the new one strapped on :) Keep the updates coming! :P
