  1. The "tapping" sound is pinging/detonation... It means the timing of the distributor is too far advanced and it is sparking BEFORE it needs to, making you lose a LOT of torque. If you don't have a timing light, just keep retarding it (less advance) and drive it up hills to test if it is still pinging. Once it stops sounding like you have marbles in your motor you should be pretty right; but it does help to get it properly timed.
  2. Ahahaha, very nice :jamie:
  3. Strut braces are a little easier to find as a 2nd hand unit and can be found quite cheap! I just picked up one for my KE70 for $100. If you haven't already, I'd prefer to lower the car first.
  4. Will do, KENut :) How's the 4k going? What LittleRedSpirit said and yes, I quite like it myself... It's much better than a GIANT clock :bash: in the way. If LRS's reply didn't answer your questions, I can still take a few more photo's and measure it up for you!? I've seen your car in your rides thread and it's awesome, Daxman! I like the chrome that you put on the grill. I prefer that style of front over most but it'd be a toss up between that and quad fronts :) You should send me your front when you install your quads :jamie:
  5. Saw a red KE38 in my work Carpark. Was dead stock, but looked quite straight. Needed a good wash, though :)
  6. Hi Paul! I suggest posting in the parts section in the Canberra group.... EDIT: Which can be found here: http://www.rollaclub.com/board/?showtopic=25780
  7. What I wanna know is why wasn't I invited?! :y: Na, it's looking great, Sammo. Good to see you're doing the job well.
  8. It'll all be well worth it my friend :) Stay strong lol
  9. This is a bit of a question inside of a question, but: If there is a vacuum problem, I'm guessing that's why the choke wouldn't work either...?
  10. I'm guessing a Holden won? ;)
  11. Huh!? Wow, I didn't know it was on this weekend ;) I guess I missed it..
  12. I've got a 5k with a stage 4 or 5 cam.. It idles a bit like a rotary, but doesn't "sound" like one. It only does the barp-barp idle. It has high compression, ported head, solid lifters, 2" exhaust with extractors, and a single weber. And rev's off it's head ;)
  13. Today I was delivering pamphlets for my uncle and saw a yellow KE70 under cover of a tarp with QLD number plates. It was in Bonython in a set of townhouse/units area, it was parked next to the car garage and there was a small window and I caught a glimpse out of the corner of my eye of something I knew too well... the fuel flap of a KE20! It was white with some nice rims and a fairly clean body! I'd run out of RollaClub flyers in my glovebox, though :P
  14. haha, you didn't give it a proper GO! :( If you do take the manifold off, make sure you try keep your gaskets intact! Although you should be able to get it out! I managed... :P
  15. Honestly.... Just wait until you can afford it. There's no point going to the trouble if you're only going to change them soon anyway. Probably shouldn't be asking for advice on how to make your car ILLEGAL on RollaClub :D
  16. :D $50 is cheaper than a rebuild.. cheaper lol
  17. UPDATE: Have received my strut brace and tacho dash! Tacho dash is ready to go in; I will be painting the ends of the strut braces black and polishing the centre bar before I put it in. Hopefully I'll get round to putting it all in by next weekend. Whiteline rear sway bar and pedders springs are taking forever to get to the shop! I ordered them over two weeks ago :D Here are some pics:
  18. Ah f@$k.. Forgot about the thermostat. I took it out of there to replace my 5k one which was buggered. I think the rattling is detonating. Get it timed and it should fix that. I didn't know what it was till I had the motor out and had the 5k in and I tried timing the 5k without a timing light after it was running like a bucket of crap once and then it started doing that and my friend said that it was detonating... The sound could be made out as "marbles in your motor". Was the snapped head bolt the one on my motor?! Was that the head you took off of the one I sold you? Vince
  19. Wow! How long did it take for you to "knock" this up? I'm assuming you did most of the work yourselves? Well done
  20. So any answer to this lol? Also any updates?
  21. Have seen it a MULLION times, now. That's the one that's always parked out front of Phillip Head Services! EDIT: Did you put a RC invite under his wiper? :)
  22. Hah! Wow. Just goes to show how awesome and reliable K engines are :) So glad it worked out for you, Bart. Had any dramas with it, though?
  23. Doesn't mean anything ;) Depends how it's been treated. An engine could have 300,000km's on it and have an oil change, filters changed, fuel cleaner etc put through it every 5,000k's and still run like new. Compared to a 50,000km engine that's been raced with and revved to 8,000rpm daily with only a few oil/filter changed I'd pick the 300,000km engine :) As for finding an engine, people on RC wreck cars quite a bit so just send a PM to someone wrecking one and see if motor is available/working! Everyone on AE86DC puts a 4age/sr20/ca18 in their cars and throw away their old 3/4k's so could send someone a PM on that if you can't find one on here.
