Lookin fantastic Tommy! That's quite an extensive range of Toyota's your family has. Unfortunately I'm the only Toyota fanatic in my family. I just got off the phone to a bloke named Stewart (Stuart)? M. with some great advice about centre caps for my Hotwire rims! He said that you put some 02 Skyline caps on it, which look the part. As I can see from the distant picture you have there they do look as if they set the rims off quite nicely! Could you please send me a few close-ups and details about the caps as I'm really interested in putting them on my set! Best regards, Vincent.

From the photos did you cut your front bumper so it doesn't stick out so much? They do stick out a lot!

Sounds like Slapper might be right. New carby!

How Big Is The 4kc Cooling System?
seabiscuit replied to JRADSTRX's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
Should be close to that, are you flushing your cooling system? -
Like it says in the "How To Build A Tough K Motor" link I put in before, 3k Bigport heads aren't that amazing. They are a LOT weaker and it's only a stock port job. You could get another 4k head, which is a lot stronger and do a port job on that, shave to raise compression it and be much happier with the result. Although even with any heavily worked N/A K motor, drifting is still basically impossible. We do support your efforts to get into drifting, but it's hard to encourage something that in the end is going to be a disappointing result. The message here is to save your money and buy something worthwhile!

Did you happen to see any WHOLE cars for sale?

Yea, I thought they got over the whole "European styling" thing

Twin carbs for a 4A-C? I've never seen/heard of it, but it might just be an uncommon thing. You'll spend $500 min for a twin carb setup (incl manifold, linkages, carbs themselves and perhaps tuning) so you're better off going the extra $500 (ish) and buying a 4age for some REAL power increase. ps. LukeAE71 says "at the end of the day a lot" haha

Looks like a good project base. What was your neighbor (or whoever) thinking with that steering wheel?! It looks shocking.
-
Waste of money trying to make a K motor into a drift car. You'll spend a quarter or even half of what you'd need for a 4age conversion and will be disappointed as you still won't be able to drift in the dry.

N/a 20v Vs 4agte Vs 4agze Supercharged
seabiscuit replied to Stixy's topic in AExx Corolla Discussion
Definitely a good choice. It would probably get a bit hektik trying to turn your 4agze into a 4agte if you're only learning. Just an engine conversion is good enough. Once you understand them a bit more you can move onto bigger (and hopefully) better things! That's what I plan to do. 5k FTW lol -
G'day Pauly. Your project is your project so in the end it's up to you to decide what would be good. If it's an AE71 (which has a 4A engine) a 4age conversion would be a really good option as it is pretty much a bolt-in conversion. However if it's a KE70 (which has a 4k engine) you would need to spend a little more money to get a 4age in. For a 4age implant I'd suggest for an all round "cruiser which spins nuts in 3rd in the dry":- Gearbox - T-50 or possibly even a W-series Supra box! Engine - 4age with turbo conversion, aftermarket ECU and forged internals Wheels - Whatever tickles your fancy but oldschool Jap-spec rims suit KE70's really well! Clutch - Whatever bolts to a T-50 or W-5x box Suspension - Aftermarket springs would be good if it's just a cruiser - just to make it low and a little stiffer but not back breaking. I suggest checking out other RollaClubber project cars and if you like it ask them what they like about it, what they don't, what was easy, what was hard, the costs etc. (and if it spins nuts in the dry in 3rd :P ) Sorry for the novel, but I hope it helps :P

Call ANY wrecker and ask if they have any 4k motors and if the head is in usable condition! Keep calling until you find one that has one and then ask for a price on it. You may be able to take the head off yourself and save yourself a few dosh if you say you're able to. Especially since it should be simple as you have previous experience in taking a 4k head off. Heads/motors come up in the "For Sale" section all the time. So you could just look out for one there. Good Luck ps. Redwarf's advice is actually REALLY good! So if he suggests to buy a manual, it's probably a really good idea. You'll end up saving a shitload of time and maybe even some cash since you have a "HOW TO" in front of you.

:P "How To Build A Tough "K" Motor" The "Frequently Asked Questions/Knowledge Base" Should be able to help you out a little. There are no 3k-b "dealers" around as they are a 40-year-old engine. The twin carbs are just a factory item and aren't really better than aftermarket options such as the popular Weber or Dellorto carburettors. The "b" stands for Bigport Head, which means the ports are just a little bigger than standard ports - again, which is a 40-year-old design. Basically it's the exact same as any other 3k motor, but with a bigport head and 2 carburettors. If you wish to turn your KE55 into a drift pig, I suggest you stick with your 4k (if that's what's in it), which are decently better than a 3k motor - or even upgrade to a 5k motor and then do a bolt-on carburettor setup and mild porting job on the head which will give much better results than a 3k-b as I highly doubt that you will be able to do any decent drifting with a 1.1L 40-year-old engine (and barely with the 4k or 5k) Good luck

Great to see the project is still going from a a 2+ year old thread :P I hope you can keep us updated atleast every few months this time :P

Wow that's a clean and bloody nice car. The interior really stands out. 1960's cruising style. Just need to cut the roof off! Suggestions: 1. 5k! 2. Maintain! 3. ... It's awesome already :P 4. Sunday cruiser!

That is a pretty damn good deal, though. I think I'll pass up the carbs as I can only get them TODAY posted from Tas and I'm not keen to be disappointed. If anyone else is interested here is the link. Twin Solex Carbs with 18r Manifold $200

I won't be using these for quite a while as I plan to put them on a 2t/3t motor in the future. So you're suggesting to buy these set as a "parts" set and then buy a better/complete set when it comes around and interchange parts to make a really good pair with parts to spare? Is $200 fairly cheap (with an 18rg manifold I can sell)? apart from not having the venturi's they are supposedly in good condition.
-
Hi RollaClubbers, I have a chance to buy a pair of Mikuni/Solex 40 Sidedraught Carbs for $200, although they are missing the venturi's. I've read that parts for these brand of carburettors are quite difficult to get a hold of. Anybody else have these carbs and have found it difficult to purchase parts for? Rebuild kits and venturi's especially!

Thanks!

I can't find "Wheels" contact online? Anyone else know number/s email etc. Haven't really stumbled across any others.

Pretty good read! Very amazing what they have done.
