And then be charged with fraud like the guy who stripped his car before the cops came to confiscate it for "hooning". As the police officer said "I'm pretty sure it had an engine when I pulled it over"
-
Haha yea...its like "Speed camera slow down", "no seriously theres a speed camera you need to slow down NOW", "we wernt joking!", "its coming", "Here it is!". Youd have to be mentally retarded to be caught!
-
I think most of these guys are keen on having their own day. Most of them arnt making huge amounts of power and would rather not inconvenience people who are somewhat serious... If we have our own we can take our time and do our own thing. I'll get in contact with Redcliffe ASAP...super busy at the moment.

RB20 probably. My CA18 box was overall the same length. Shifter, bellhousing, gearbox mount etc etc were all in the exact same spot. Even the tailshaft spline was the same.
-
Fat chance.... The SR20 gearboxes don't have a detachable bellhousing. Its an integral part of the gearbox (like the K40/50 boxes) So unfortunatly youre stuck with it and these mofos are a pain in the arse to get them into and out of the cars they were MADE for let alone a corolla. You will have dash problems which ever way you go. The SR20s use an electronic speedo. If youre going to use a silvia/180sx dash, make sure you get the SR20 one because the tachos differ between the SR20 and CA18. You can get the CA18 ones to work with the SR20 ECU with modification. Skyline dash wont work without even more modification. don't forget youre lovely expensive custom tailshaft, your intercooler with all custom piping, the new exhaust, someone to reconfigure the loom and perhaps do a custom one for the dash. I could go on for ages. I wouldnt expect it to cost less than $6,000...

Looking for some dates guys. When would we prefer to have it? I'm all for having it sooner rather than later but I'll take all ideas into consideration. I'm confident we could fill it with 20+ cars so I will definetly organise this one. I'll talk to redcliffe dyno in the following week and see how they like to run them.
-
Just put rocker arm stoppers in. Stops them jumping off the hydraulic lash ajuster. Get good brand name ones but even they shouldnt set you back more than $120-150. I think people change to the GTiR head because of the ports. They were built for homologated rallying so they were designed to make as much power as possible. Same with the turbos, hence theyre a nice upgrade (I'm running one, theyre good for 230rwkw). Its probably not worth the effort compared to some other mods. Certainly not a bolt on modification... otherwise everyone would be doing it.
-
Those copys are garbage. People have found the casting to be POUROUS in some cases. Buy a genuine Greddy!! And like I said, 550rwhp on a standard manifold...wheres the need? Its just wank factor IMO. 350rwhp (260rwkw) A redtop will do that on standard internals, so will a VCT blacktop, but for the same work IMO you'll get more power from the red top. You might want to do camshafts but people get away without them. Turbo, something like a GT2871R. Theres lots of different breeds of 2871Rs so you can pick one to suit your application. The disco potato wont make it.

Where Do I Get A Tacho Signal On The Ke70 From?
irokin replied to love ke70's topic in General Mechanical
Just because its got a carby doesnt mean it can't have coilpacks. I could put a carby on my SR20DET (not that I would) and keep the coil packs...which would require the ECU! The ECU supplys the tach signal for coilpacks. -

negative terminal (yes negative!) of the ignition coil. If its got electronic ignition the ECU should supply one. -
From memory you don't even have to wear a helmet, so I dare say CAMS is fairly confident you wont be rolling your car or smashing into things with much speed. I doubt you'll do any damage and even if you do break down the guys around here will be the first ones to jump in and lend a hand.

Farewell Travis / Poo Racer Gold Coast Cruise
irokin replied to Medicine_Man's topic in QLD / Brisbane
Ive been at work all day and willowbank all afternoon. I'm worn out so I'll probably see you all at sumos at 9pm. Not up for a drive down the coast :) *yawn* ZzZzZz -
So where the bloody hell are ya? September is the beginning of storm season. Usually you'll have a really hot day then possibly a storm late afternoon or early evening. I might be able to take you for a scenic flight by august :)....unfortunatly I don't do crossings of the Pacific ocean.
-
I think Ive got one of those style, but KE30, grilles under the house. Needs a bit of glue...but not in any visable areas from memory.

*nods but in more of a headbutting action knocking both out at once*

The problem with having Toyotas with a capacity Over 2L Forced induction is that you then include the 3 litre 2JZ-GTE which is more than capable of making 800hp on a standard bottom end. I'm starting to think maybe we should wait to see what kind of cars we have coming before making up categorys.
-
Yea there are a few issues with the categorys. Its hard to make it as fair as possible for all sorts of different engine configurations without having too many classes. I'm starting to like the idea of the sliding scale. But it has issues too. Any comments on the classes or ideas on how to run the day welcome. I'll try to get on to Redcliffe dyno soonish to get a rough idea on what kind of prices we're looking at...
-
Ive been thinking of this one for a while (i.e. probably over a year now lol). Prices would have to be confirmed cose to the date but I imagine it being between $50-70 for a few runs. The location would have to be sorted out exactly but It will be in the greater Brisbane area most likely somewhere north of the river. I envisage it being run with prizes for the following classes: Wooden spoon - Lowest maximum output of any motor on its best power run Toyotas with a capacity under 1.6L N/A (3Ks, 4Ks, 5Ks, 4E, etc) Toyotas with a capacity 1.6L and over but under 1.9L N/A (7Ks, 4As, 2Ts, 3Ts, etc) Toyotas with a capacity 2.0L and over 4 cylinders N/A (2S, 3S, 18R, 22R etc) Toyota Unlimited category (Turbo 6s, V8s) Toyotas with a capacity under 1.6L Forced induction Toyotas with a capacity Over 1.6L Forced induction (4 cyl only) Others Capacity Under 2 Litres N/A Capacity Over 2 Liters N/A Capacity Under 2 Litres F/I Capacity Over 2 Litres Forced Induction (4 cylinder only) Unlimited Category (Forced Induction 6 cylindners, V8, V10, V12, W16?) Other rules * NO nitrous oxide with other power adders (supercharger, turbocharger). Nitrous oxide by itself is fine (provided the dyno provider allows it). * Nitrous oxide will be considered a form of forced induction. * Toyota refers to the engine make, so a Nissan with a Toyota motor would compete in the toyota category. Conversely a Toyota with a Nissan motor would compete in the 'Other' category. * Engine capacities are rounded up to the nearest 100ml e.g. An SR20 is 1998cc and will compete as 2 litres. A 5K is 1496cc and will compete as 1.5 litres. Others to come as I think of them. Alternatively a fun way to run it would be with a bracket system example 0 to 50hp 51 to 100hp 100 to 200hp 201 to 300hp 301 to 400hp 500 to unlimited The person with the highest output in their bracket, without going over the maximum power for that bracket wins. All forced induction, normally/naturally aspirated, cylinder configurations and motor makes would be grouped together. You _may_ perhaps get one power run to see what your maximum output is, then have the chance to make a few ajustments to either get MORE or LESS power before you do perhaps a pair of recorded power runs with the highest output recorded. Let me know what think. We would probably need a minimum of 20 - 30 which I'm sure we could get if we invite our non-toyota buddys.

Whats even funnier is that it wasnt accually filmed in japan.

The other thing the SR20DEs don't have is oil squirters. So your pistons cook if youre running high-ish boost. Id be limiting myself to 12psi absolute TOPS...but thats just me. My advice with the S14 SR20DET is... ditch it and get a red top SR20. Not trying to be biased or anything (if they honestly made more power, Id use one) The manifolds (and to an extent the ports) on the later motors are shit and the low mount, high port setup of the redtops flow better. I do know of a guy making 546 WHEEL horsepower with the stock redtop manifold. They flow that good!! The VCT can be troublesome too. There was a problem with oil pressure not getting up to the actuator quick enough and a rattling noise developing. Nissan have a fix for it, but thats more money. The extra power S14 motors make standard is simply a larger turbo (T28 vs T25G) and a bit of VCT. Should go like hell.... *runs off to strip 200kg from the silvia*

New Turbos On Car - Do I Need To Build Oil Pressure?
irokin replied to love ke70's topic in Automotive Discussion
I just remove the sparkplugs and crank it over a few times. The load on the starter is minimal so you can crank it over a fair bit. I did this mainly because it was a brand new motor but its a good idea to get oil up to the turbo(s) before they have to spin at any sort of speed. -
Is it just me or does it look like some kind of retarded SUV? Its like the grille is out of proportion with the windscreen?
