After the weekend's trash and treasure at U Pull It I now have the following: - T18 Chrome Bumpers front and rear - not sure what to do with them yet, they don't suit slant front at all. Eventually may change to flat front on this car due to need to paint front end anyway due to some fading issues. - T series rear end (complete) and tail shaft - to go in this car after being refurbished, new bearings, paint etc. I need to do some research regarding diff centres for the T series. At present I have a 4.3 ratio auto diff which helps with the 20V to get the revs up. If I put the T series in with stock centre (or locked) it will be a 3.9 ratio which won't help much :) I am now on the look out for some XT130 LCA's and maybe the XT130 brake upgrade for the front. I now want to upgrade more and more, really getting a taste for it now :hmm:

City Dismantlers have them a bit of the time, and yes he gives you a gay as aids price over the phone  I went down there and negotiated and in the end got them for about the same price as people ask on here and other forums. It's worth a try

No new wheels at this stage, was looking into some but I need to sell the Sigmas to reveal some cash  I was saving up but then yesterday I went to U Pull It looking for some parts for my brother in laws car and ended up taking a whole treasure trove for myself also so there goes some more cash

Undo old wheel, bolt on new wheel. Simple as that  The Corolla enblem on the shitty standard wheel pops out with a screwdriver to reveal the nut. I just loosened it a little, and haggled with the wheel (with the nut still in place loosely) until I got it off the spline :( The Twin Cam Wheel has a boss attached to it so it sits prob 2 - 3 inches further out than the standard wheel, which is what brings the wheel closer and therefore nicer to drive. It is recessed enough on the inside though that the standard bolt fits on with plenty of threads and it just goes straight on the spline no worries. Also the Twin Cam Wheel has a bit of dish to it which brings it out even further. Horn works perfect straight away too

Loving everyone saying how nice my car sounds :D

Update: Not much but I got another steering wheel for this last night. I got a twin cam wheel out of an AE82, I figured it was a good idea to stick with a stock looking wheel. Soooo much better, it is closer to me, and also it doesn't bend when you steer like the crap AE71 one did. The steering wheel these things came out with is so poor, feels like you are wrencing a coathanger. I went for a spirited drive with the new wheel on and I love it, so much better to drive :D I will take a pic when I can find my camera :D

I guess what I was trying to say is that unless you are prepared for some serious engine work a 20 valve is not going to be very quick down the 1/4 mile. If you want a quarter mile monster you are going to need to build a tough engine and turbo for sure. It shouldn't be about quarter mile times anyway, revs and handling should be what Corollas are about if you ask me. I much prefer some tight corners and long stretches in my Corolla rather than a straight flat piece of road :D

I can tell you I won't be racing over there. I was thinking of sticking to about 100, with an auto diff and close ratio box my machine will chew mass amounts of juice at 110 or over. It sits at nearly 4000 rpm on the freeway at 115. You don't lose that much time going 95 - 100 and you save your car and petrol :D Also, I don't fancy having to get mine towed back so I will be taking it extra easy both there and back :D
-
I don't know of any but I would like to point out that if you are thinking of getting a 20V for quarter mile times you might be best to consider some other options. :D

I just shiarted :D

Sorry mate I missed the wave, I was in la la land. You might see me up that way a bit, I am keeping an eye on my Auntie's house while she is in hospital :D I spotted Punchy in his KE25 this morning turning onto Fullarton Road, then not even 30 seconds later spotted Smeetsy in his KE30. :D
-
All M series love to blow - head gaskets that is :D If you were going to stay M series, prob go a 7MGE as it will have additional torque without all the turbo issues, etc :D

someone had a bad morning :D

I think a mix of the models is the best idea, perhaps spread them out a little more, ie. KE10 then KE15,16,17, then onto the KE30 series then KE50 etc. That would spread it out more. I think one car per month and put them up on here and people can vote for them. I am sure you will get at least one decent version of each car and some decent photography of it as well. If someone wants their car in the calendar they will go to that extra effort. I also doubt you will get many offers for the later model Corollas but I could be wrong. :D

You don't live in SA mate, over here we have issues with SA Police and Department of Transport trawling sites like these and then sending you a lovely letter saying that your registration has been frozen due to some modifications on your vehicle and now it has to go through a full inspection prior to re registration. It has happened to cars advertised on forums, in build threads and also adverts in the local trading post. :D So yes there is a need and anyone who posts pics up from a cruise should take the courtesy to do it too. Which reminds me I need to clean up my thread.

What were you in??? I seen you up that way once in your ute but I was incognito in my Mazda, whenever I wave to people in that they think I'm weird :D

I spotted your brother driving his KE the other day, actually sounds alright for a 4K :)
-
way to describe the rip :) Charlie this is looking good, that wagon was in too good nick to let it go to waste :)

Mate you do have your work cut out for you to finish it by November. Mine took me 6 months and that was only an engine upgrade, 2.5 of those months were spent sitting idle at workshops with people doing nothing to my car. You know yourself that you work quickly on your car but others don't always :)

Yellow flat front KE70 riding low on jelly beans at the Crafers roundabout this morning about 8am. I was in the Silver AE71, cheers for the wave :)

Very true, after all I have had a Sprinter with 180 rwkw and I would consider that quick. Driveable no, quick yes :) And I agree I have had people come in my car and be amazed by it, which is good for the ego. I think the 20V is a good upgrade for these cars no matter what :)
-
+ 1 for putting in pedal box and clutch master while engine is out, wayyyy more room to work when drilling :) Oh well, you win some you lose some, but in the end you live to fight another day :) Good work son, keep it up and this thing will be going in no time :P
-
That sort of power level (110rwkw) would still be quite driveable and enjoyable. Revs is where it's at with these things and there is nothing like the sound of open trumpets at 8000 + rpm on a winding road, I should know :) Good luck with it mate, I'll leave this for other people to make comments now :)
-
Ok then well what kind of power output would you like to see from this thing? Mine has 91 rwkw, and I don't consider it to be fast :) I have heard of (not seen or been in) a 20V in Adelaide putting 125kw at the wheels, with big cams etc. I would like to see it though so I can believe it. Apparently though it is a bit difficult to drive due to the cams etc. It all depends on what you want and also what you have driven previously. I personally think the 20 valve is worth it over the 16 valve (not withstanding the fact that every man and his dog now has a 16 valve so 20 valve is original) :P 20 valves are starting to pop up a bit now though and not just in the front wheel drivers :)
-
You would be surprised how easy these things go in, in fact they are easier to work on and install than that lump of 4AC you remove to put it in there :) Are you looking to turbo the 20 valve later on down the track?? If so I would be thinking of throwing parts into the engine with that in mind. Not wanting to get all negative up in here or put you off but a standard or slightly worked 20 valve is not going to set you on fire if you know what I mean :) I like mine for the responsiveness and revs etc and it works well as a daily driver but it is no rocket ship :P I am definitely thinking of going turbo on mine, but I think I will wait until I can afford to build a motor to handle it.
