  1. if your interesting in learning a little.... spend a couple of hundred on a VRS kit. Pull the head off, reseat your valves and port the head yourself. Sounds hard doesn't it. You can also port the intake manifold to suit. I spent $40 on a pnuematic die grinder and $55 on an alloy cutting piece from Trade Tools. Use a manifold gasket as a guide and go for broke.... I did. Buy an adapter plate to suit a 32/36 webber, they're easy to find. The webber will be a bit more expensive unless your lucky....off ebay. Get your extractors and exaust and it'll have poke. You could probably do all of this for less than $1000. It won't beat V8's but when you notice the improvement you'll feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
  2. agreed. they might make you weld up the back doors iff you take the seats out.
  3. I would not recommend a such a large rim... your giving up your ability to corner hard and fast for little gain. You'll manage a higher top speed but you'll sacrifice acceleration for it. If you want big, don't go bigger than a 15"........ 13" or 14" is ideal for this size of car. Perhaps, consider, get something wider with a bit of offset to increase your wheel track and lower it a little if it isn't already.
  4. GJM85, daggers57, wagn, Evan G, SLW42, AE70, 19914afc, blktoy35.... all at once. People are loving this thread.
  5. You'll need to locate a ke70 5 speed as anything from an earlier model is shorter. If you use a t-50 you'll need a k-t bell housing which is not easy to find and unless you do some work to the 4k, won't be worth the trouble.
  6. ....it would probably be my 2000 Astra TS Series 1. Strangely fast.... as are its origins. :hmm: But the '04 Camry ACV36R Sportivo goes well for a tank also.
  7. Depends on how much blue and red attention you want. If you shave them they'll probably just pull you over to check your compliance at which time they'll defect you. If you don't they'll only pull you over when they see you've got no rear seats at which time they'll defect you.
  8. Why are the engine mounts welded? I though a 5k would drop straight onto ke20 engine mounts.
  9. being overhead cam and larger displacement, yes..... the only other pro is that when you pull them out, a 4age fits straight back in there. The K series motor is far easier to work with. Though the power gains aren't as plentiful they offer much education for a beginner. I had a 4a-c in my third corolla, ae71 spririt, rebuilt it when I first got it and it never ran right. Called around and nobody wanted anything to do with it... which is why I call it, a BASTARD!
  10. The 4ac is a bastard motor. Don't waste your money....
  11. Don't be like that.... Corolla's are for winners and you've got a winner. Just look around for a local place where you can get the plate done. I can't imagine you'd be looking at $800. If your still on your P's you'll have some trouble if you drive it. Other wise I think Lube Mobile might even do blue plates.
  12. Yeah i wouldn't have a clue... I don't look forward to the time I take my 20 in for mods plates.
  13. that is correct. You now need a mod plate for increased displacement.... and anything mechanical that did not come as a standard option on the model of vehicle.
  14. The best of the best of the best when it comes to 4a motors would be the Formula Atlantic gear.... your looking at about $12,000 for the bottom end and GOD only knows where you'd start looking to find the parts. Read this.... Formula Atlantic and this... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralt#Later_Fo...lantic_variants I've seen a 190rwkw 4agte and there was over $8000 worth of parts and countless hours of trial, error, research and development involved....
  15. DO NOT FLIP YOU LEAF SPRINGS.... bad bad bad. Instead of absorbing impact it will cause the spring to do the exact opposite and throw the arse in the air. It will also destroy your rear spring mounts. Just get them reset with an extra leaf.... talk to Teddy... For the front you just need some lowered springs. They're about 230$ a set through repco.
  16. hw long is a piece of string? twice half its length.... that's how long.

It's awesome.... it's like the car is at perfect power to weight ratio. Anymore and it'll torque its way out of town any less and it wouldn't be 8.0....
  18. it's a learning curve... first you would learn how to plumb a blower, then you would learn how to replace your engine. Then and finally you would learn to buy car and health insurance by which time you have become learn-ed. But yeah I did forget the pressure sealing of the carby which would be considerably impossible due to the amolunt of pollution gear and vacuum hoses.... I now recommend the following...... 3rdparty/fire/theft insurance>>>> bushland>>>> petrol>>>> matches>>>> payday>>>> ke20!!! :P
  19. If your looking for a cheap and sleazy power increase, buy an sc12 blower of a 4agze and mount it on your AC bracket. Then you'll just have to plumb it into your carby. Those 4a-fc are over fuelled as it is. Could possibly see 90kw for about $400. You could probably run up to 10psi of boost.... turbo would be hell more expensive.
  20. 5k conversion won't be hard.... if you find one out of a corolla she'll be out & in. Otherwise they come out of liteace's and you'll need to swap things liike the thermostat housing and sump. Also if you do find a engine you want to use be sure it is clean running engine. There would be nothing worse than doing all the work only to find you've got a cracked piston....
  21. a dude i know used gaffer tape and export spray paint to get his landcruiser through road worthy...
  22. he's refering to this thread .....How Many Litres Of Oil For A 5k?. Not intersted in arguments so....don't argue. If you've gotta start using additives in your engine it's time for a rebuild or at least a head job... speaking of which :blinks:
  23. You should give it a couple of layers of clear so the shine hangs around longer....
  24. comparing gear oil and engine oil is equivelant to comparing peaches and potatoes....
