  1. What exactly did you fix to get it running again? Or did it just fix itself?

Pretty sure he has an AE86 one. And if the AE86 radiator mounts the same way as AE82 (see picture), then you should be able to grab some lower radiator brackets off an AE82 and use those, as one of the AE82 radiator brackets bolts on and one is welded on. So you could get 2 of the bolt-on AE82 radiator brackets and bolt them to a KE70 radiator support. I think the AE82 lower radiator brackets are the ones on the top right, above the radiator:

Can't you just make some mounts for your radiator and bolt them to the lower radiator support?
  5. I'm pretty sure you need to modify the sandwich plate before you can turn it, but it wouldn't be hard to do.
  6. My sandwich plate is in the original position (pressure release valve pointing down through the engine mount) but I turned the oil line around so it comes back out the top of the engine mount. I've also seen people rotate the sandwich plate like this so the pressure release valve doesn't sit in between the engine mount: Either way should be fine as long as the oil line doesn't rub on anything or come too close to the headers. You could always go to a braided line if you are worried about it.
  7. Most K engine thermostats I've seen open up between 82*C to 88*C. And I'm pretty sure engine coolant mixed at 50/50 will boil around 110*C with a 1 bar radiator cap (couldn't be bothered calculating it). So I guess those are the parameters. The coolant temp for under normal driving conditions is probably going to sit at around whatever temp the thermostat opens, so you would probably want the thermo fan to kick in a bit higher so it isn't running all the time. I can't really give you any values because I've never owned a thermo fan nor a proper water temperature gauge until now, but neither are hooked up. And I think Autometer or VDO (can't remember which one) make temperature warning switches/senders in varying temperatures, they would be good for hooking up your temperature warning light. Edit: The Tridon website says the factory K engine thermo fan switch kicks in at 95*C and cuts out at 90*C.
  8. I'd love to own a proper dirt bike one day when I have money and somewhere to ride it. I've only riden one once and I never got out of second gear because it was too gnarly.
  9. I had one of those, but it accidentally got stuck in a shrink ray. It's also WMMH.

  11. Thanks for the heads-up. I'm definitely going to have it looking neat and tidy for the inspection, actually I plan to have it looking neat and tidy all the time.
  12. Okay so I spoke to Randall from www.modplate.com.au (All Vehicle Certification Services). He said there shouldn't be any problems with certifying the conversion as long as the work is up to scratch. The things he said were important for the modplate: - must have airbox - must have catalytic convertor - brake upgrade is preferred (AE86 is good enough he said) - factory cross-members and engine mounts are preferred - under car surge tank is a good idea There were probably some other things but I can't recall them. The price of the modplate is: - $150 call-out fee which includes LA engine modplate code - $50 for every additional code So it works out to be $300 for the engine, gearbox, EFI system and brakes to be modplated, which sounds good to me considering I don't have to trailer the car anywhere, except I do have to get an unregistered vehicle permit to bring it to Brisbane but I was going to need to do this anyway. I also found a K series gearbox cross-member so I can modify and fit that and get rid of the dodgey fitting AE86 gearbox cross-member. All seems good for now. Thanks to everyone for the help and suggestions.

Good to hear that you got it sorted!

Bought something to keep me cool this summer: It's an AE71 3 core aluminium radiator. It's about 20mm wider and 20mm thicker than a KE70 radiator, not only will it be a huge upgrade over the KE70 radiator but it puts the inlet and outlet on the correct side. So no more dodgey radiator hoses passing from one side of the engine bay to the other. However I'll definitely be replacing the radiator cap.
  17. lol, it's funny because the post was really old and we still haven't finished our cars. Blacktop will definitely win. Indeed!
  18. I work at SCA in Brisbane, in a couple of the north-side stores. I think many of the staff don't know about all the cool stuff SCA can order because no one ever comes in to order it, I only know about it because I'm constantly looking for shit to buy for my car.
  19. That shit's outasight! The copies of those wheels can be bought so cheap too, in 15x7, 15x8 0, and 15x9 -10. I might buy some when I have money.
  20. Supercheap Auto. I can order heaps of performance gear. Things like turbos, clutches, cams, intake and exhaust manifolds, swaybars, coilover springs, dampers, aftermarket brakes etc. All kinds of stuff. I recently bought my entire exhaust (from the headers onwards) through work. The thing with Supercheap Auto is that you just need to talk to the right staff ;), half the people there have never touched an engine. I think you may have already asked me this Dave?
  21. This thread just got very interesting! I can see a lot of custom parts needed to get this to work in RWD format. Did you get a non-distributor engine or is it just missing the distributor?
  22. I almost had this happen to me, I found a stack of Rocket Industries catalogues at work and got so excited about AN fittings and hoses. Lucky I ran out of money after replacing only one oil line with braided stuff :blinks: ʞ©$ɟ they're expensive! Yes do this! And we will race your blacktop against my bluetop.

Are you getting power at the 'EFI' and 'engine' fuses? Maybe you blew a main fuse or fusible link?
