I think this is the most close minded thread i think i have ever had the displeasure of reading, and quite frankly, i would have expected better from Rollaclub. I was of the opion that u guys were all intelligent, open minded people but i think i was wrong.

I agree that there is a percentage of wankers assosiated in the sport( show me one that doesn't have that tho) but mostly every one i know through drifting are all top guys.

in my opinion, drifting is one of the few motor sports that u don't need heaps of money to compete in. don't get me wrong, its not the be all and end all of life as i know it, i love to go for stinky fast mountain runs without drifting, but i think u guys need to be a little more grown up about it. EVERY SPORT HAS IT FAIR SHARE OF WANKERS that can give a bad name to the rest. I respect the fact that its not everyones idea of the ultimate form of driving.... i guess thats why we have so many different forms of motorsport......

sorry to sound like a cranky old fart :D

I agree with you there Tuff KE

BUT

unfortunately, the drifting side of motorsport (even though some people here don't even think it is one) seems to really show the people who are the wankers in the motorsport.

BUT

I think V8 supercars show's more of the wanker factor in that it's pretty much full of beer-swilling bogans who think that either a Ford or a Holden are the only cars ever produced and that everything else is shit.

At most people in here have an open minded to the fact that there are various types of cars around.

I prefer drift over V8 supercars anyway.

That's my 2c worth.

are you for real?

have you not seen the THOUSANDS of dicks who come online and talk utter utter shit about drifting? the tossers who think its cool to drift around streets? the dorks who know NOTHING about cars but insist they do cause a cartoon said so?

at a recent drift practice day a s14 silvia burnt to the ground cause only ONE driver stopped to help the driver whilel the others carried on even though the session was redflagged, in fact they lept drifting past the burning wreck stopping spectators and marshells from reachign the car.

THAT is typical of the attitude of drifters i have met.

<<<<<< read aka...

To me, drifting is not a spectator sport. Really, it should just be considered as something you and your mates go and do round corners...

Yes, there is shitloads of skill involved in drifting. Think how hard it is to do a corner efficiently when your racing grip. Now do it at a 45 degree angle (or more).

I like grip and drift, really, its comes down to what you enjoy more. I love going sideways around a corner just as much as I would hugging it.

Drift is just an exaggerated speedway...

Lifes better sideways, or at 160 clicks

(sniggers)160km/h 120y....

i don't count the net drifters as part of the drifting scene.. the biggest thing they have to worry about is backspacing to hard and hitting a firewall... i agree, the thousands of tools who get on the forums and claim to know everything can all fu*k off as far as i care... the real drifters are the one who sacrifice going out with friends to stay in the shed to build or better their cars....

There are very few real drifters who bother with forums anyway because of threads like this

on your other point, it is very sad to hear that people didnt be more helpful... where did it happen(what state/track)?

ok this kind of debate always has several sides to it, so i'll throw in my 2c.......

i drift as a MOTORSPORT because its one of the few forms or racing where budget is not the deciding factor in who wins. Simple. I enter my pink ae86 in national level competitions around the place,( currently equal first in NSW state series and 6th in Drift Australia series), and do it all around my ful;l time job. its fun...

but if you try and tell me that there is less skill in getting between 2 corners sideways that there is in a straight line, you are kidding yourself. I'm not saying its harded, its just not as simple as you may seem to think it is. I have several other kinds of motorsport as well, i regularly do the gatton street sprints in QLD, but for pure fun factor, i prefer to do drifting.

while at a recent Oran park practice day in sydney, i had a member of a well known toyota club approach me after seeeing my drifting, and he said i should be driving a rally car, as i had exceptional car control, but simple fact is, i can gain way more exposure and sponsorship by drifting than i could by driving rally, and all at a much lower cost than rallying.

Could you honestly be tottally competative at the TOP level of national rallying in a sub $20,000 car, as mine is? i think not.

Yes the sport is being comecialised, but that just means that those of us that want to take it seriosly, will in the space of 12 months, be able to comnpete and do it as A FULL TIME JOB, in the sports second year of national competition....

tell me I'm crazy, but if thats not a cool thing to do, then fine, keep working your day jobs.... Me, i'm putting all efforts into this and from all indications, its paying off much faster than anybody could have expected 12 months ago...

#end rant.

"maybe its me, but drifting is just dumb. any sport that has to rely on judges to give an opinion of who did something better isn't really a sport."

"its like ice skating. you either love to watch it or think its stupid. either way everyone hates judges."

that about sums it up.

its not motorsport, and it certainly is not racing.

its a disply, a judged competition. and judging is biased
