New Top Gear Australia

Thought I would have already found a thread here today about this, but oh well. New WIN Australian version started last night did anybody actually watch it???

 

Thoughts?

 

I quite enjoyed it, but I'm sorta of the opinion that any top gear is good top gear. You can deffinately tell that WIN has a bit more funding to throw at it than what SBS did.

Yeh I kinda liked it... I hated the first attempt at top gear Australia.

Yea I enjoyed it, I think they will actually do a great job, however I'm a bit unsure if it will ever match the british top gear, but we shall see

It was ok, they just need to get a bit more comfortable with the format and a bit more ad lib.

You could tell it was scripted which you can't with the UK boys.

 

Definitely better presenters.

 

I'll keep watching in the hope of more improvements to get my TG fix.

 

And I'll def watch the one with the Rolla!!!

Any Top Gear with Shane Jacobson in it is Awesome and Hilarious. My Dad went to Secondary School with him. :yes:

 

The Ashes Special was really hilarious, especially when they had to go through the Zoo in Peel P50s. :lolcry:

Yeah a lot better than the first attempt!

Still not in the same ball park as the BBC version.

Yet the proper episodes haven't started yet may still be crap when there not being bolstered by the UK's presenters. :o

Was it just me, or did the UK three seem a bit like they *really* didn't want to be there.

Didn't get to see it. Mate came into my room afterwards saying 'Did you see the new topgear?' He was watching it in the common room and never got me the bum.

Said it last year and will say it again. You can't compare the VERY FIRST episode of the aus version to the BBC which has been running for what, 12 years? now!

 

Its like saying Julia Gillard isn't as good of a prime minister as what Jonny was by the end of his stint.

but i have the first episode of the BBC version of topgear (when the fat guy was in it...) and yeah its pretty apauling. but they did have the R34 GTR. even the first 2 or 3 seasons of top gear BBC are pretty bad compared to the latest. which you would expect given the budget increases it would have recieved etc.

 

and yep i didnt even know this new one was on, might have to hit up the interwebs to see if some nice person has recorded it for me.

 

who are the presenters now? that was the main drawback of the last attempt, was just to "fake", presenters were trying to hard.

New presenters are the following:

Ewen Page - Top Gear Aus magazine editor (pretty sure he came from Wheels or Motor before that)

Steve Pizzati - same guy as first two seasons, advanced driving instructor and Porsche factory race driver

Shane Jacobsen - Kenny.

 

First impressions are that Pizza-head seems much better this time round, Kenny works really _really_ well, but Ewen is the odd one out - he resembles Charlie Cox too much in character and doesn't seem to be either a) outspoken enough and unafraid to say exactly what is on his mind (ie like Clarkson), b) so serious about things that he regularly gets offended by things (ie May), or c) a clown (ie Hammond). Now I know that they shouldn't be trying to re-create the UK hosts (and the current bunch do a good job of not doing that), but Ewen needs some kind of defining character.
