Some old granny yelled out her car window and called me a hoon the other day, obviously because my yellow KE70 had MA61 rims on it.

It is a 1.3 litre Automatic you stupid old hag - thing couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding :) Not to mention the fact I'm about 13 years away from being a pimply faced 17 year old

Get your jollies on a skid pan, not on a public road, no matter where it is or how quiet the road is.

Think with your brains, not with your dicks!

I see you climbed up on to your high horse again. Every one has committed some form of hooning, Lecturing people about playing around on the streets seems a bit hypocritical but yes your right people should go to the track but that will never stop it from happening on the streets.

I remember being that age, learning how to control a car etc, but we did it where it was safe, and no one else would be hurt if something went wrong. P platers please remember you are not bullet proof, and if you have an old school rolla, escort, gemini, torana etc, treat it with some f@$kin respect, and treat other road users with respect, or someone like me will flog the snot out of ya!!! Would like to hear other peoples opinions and stories!

Edit. I am not picking on P platers, or saying they all drive the same.

Same same. When i was on my P's back up in Noosa i'd mostly keep my nose clean when i was in town, around other traffic or just plainly staying respectable cause of where i was driving and/or if there was someone else in the car.

I'm still the same with my driving. About the only times i'll let my hair down is if i know what the road is like (driving to the conditions), if i'm going to try my hand at some wicked hectic drifto crap is when i can see the whole way around the corner even before i hit it. Basically i'll only drive like a tool if i'm the only one around and i know the area.

I think the real problem we have is that some of the P platers do act like complete units around other people and it comes back on to us all cause the bystanders now have the impression that the next old car they see will be driven by some duckhead P plater.

I'm very much like that myself now a days - see a old car and the first thought is P plater. See a ae86/S14 = drifter. Some tarted up car (aka ricer) = boy/girl street racer. A bit like the other day after i dropped my son off at daycare in the morning. On the way back home some tarted up honda heading towards me screamed past at what i'd say was around the 100 mark in a 60 zone. My first thought - phucking boyracer.

But on the flip side of it i have seen P platers and drivers of those tarted up cars that really should keep their licence cause of how respectable they drive.

Thats another problem, we don't have a skid pan here in toowoomba. We did have one something like about 10 years back at the local speedway track but the council didn't like the idea of it so it was closed down (and there's supposedly a proposal in closing that down cause of some dumb arse woman just had to build her house near the boundary fence of the track) and you wouldn't really see all that many people here wanting to travel all the way to brisbane for the skidpan or willowbank for a bit of circuit racing cause of the distance and possible what ifs involved. Like for me it'd be nice to go down to willowbank for a few hot laps in the turtle but the distance and cost is just too great for me to be able to do it.

thats why i love loving in a country town! i learned to drive on back roads and paddocks! in my honest opinion, if they can find a deserted road or roads that they can thrash on, let them go for it. but so long as they are willing to take responsibility for their actions if something does go wrong. hell i have been there and done that, all part of the learning process. best way would be like some of you have said a skid pan, or make friends with someone from out of town who has a property and just make your own tracks. best fun i have ever had was a home made rally track at mum and dads property in the keto!

The thing that really pisses me is, they somehow get these great condition, and sometimes rare corolla's for like $500, then do stupid shit to them and act like morons. Not just P platers i guess. Then they are 10 foot tall and bulletproof behind the wheel, cos every 17/18 year old is a professional drifter in a 50hp car. My best mate was killed in 2006 by a younger f@$kwit that thought he could drift, No fines, nothing. Slap on the wrist, and off you go. For sure, go and have fun, but do it at the right place, head 10 minutes out of town on the back roads and dirt roads. You're not gonna get caught there, and you're not gonna hurt anyone but you. Thanks for the input, cheers guys!

Spot on man! Ive been driving since i was 12, a pharkin long time, grew up in the country, and it really gives you sooo many skills when it comes to driving, and learning to control a vehicle. No matter the conditions, the car/ute, dirt, bitumen, wet, dry, uphill, downhill etc. It also gets the "hoon" and stupidity out before you get on the road legally.
