  1. Cheers for that sam, let us know whats happening! Hope all gets sorted!
  2. Yes Trev, you had it in one! After this I'm really liking the idea of adjustable cam gears then hit the dyno... I still can't get over how responsive it was low down! Yet a slug past 5500! Anyway, as you ask Trev, I will post up 1/4 times and kw figures once there done! Jarrad
  3. See you at the Airpor Teddy! Well, the time has finally come everyone! A "tri-state" event for Rollaclub! Hopefully the weather will hold off as we have showers predicted but otherwise its looking great! can't wait to catch up with everyone from melb and especially the guys and gals from SA, should be sweet! Just a note for everyone, PULP is available in Apollo Bay, so if its needed (like me) then its there. Also, being Aus Day it should be pretty busy so enjoy yourselves on the road but be sensibleish (I can talk...), most of all enjoy yourself while your there! To the Melb members, remember, 7:30am at the Ring Rd Maccas Altona bnd, leave by 8am! If we don't we will be late to queenscliff! See you all there! Jarrad
  4. Yes, I agree with Raven. The SA crews travel tim eis a little more than initially thought... sorry about that! When I first posted the idea for this run up I penned it as a yearly meet, if all goes well anyway! This will also give us an insight into what would be needed/not needed next year to make the trip bigger (not to big) and better! Well, its almost here for this year anyway! So I will be seeing Raven and raceflorolla (you are coming arent you? You paid!) from the SA reg very soon! Jarrad
  5. Sweet, glad to hear! Well, I have good news and strange news. I found and fixed the problem tonight, it ended up being something unexpected. Even after checking the timing all looked good, except I realised I had stuffed up and the timing was at 20deg btdc! Thats not right! It turned out the timing belt had slipped one tooth on the crank! This advanced the ignition thus causing the detonation. Thank furk no valves were damaged in the process! Compression is fine in all cylinders. The strage part is that the car went soo much harder like this, although it did lack the top end fun, low down it was unreal! Might be time for adjustable cam gears?! Thanks again for all your help everyone! Stu, she will be sweet for the trip/drags/dyno! can't wait!
  6. Wasnt having a go at you Trev, I know you have a few twinkys so your input is greatly appreciated. I know I havent bent/damaged a valve, this was one of the things that were checked during the build. There is plenty of clearence whilst the cam timing is correct, if it were to jump a tooth on the other hand it would be a very bad site. You are right, the pistons are built that way for a reason and I was very sceptical of this engine combo before I saw it first hand n Rollagurls car... it goes like a cut cat and has had no problems over the past 12 months, she even revs it to 8800 with std valve springs! Not something my engine will see. The reason I say the tvis might not be working is the extra push at 4400 has gone, along with the increase in induction noise. It used to be very pronounced and now revs cleanly to redline without any flat spots. Cheers again for the input, Jarrad.
  7. Cheers for the Turbo Rolla boy... You hid it so well I can't even see it! Ok, Trev... Thanks for the input. Exhaust leak could be a possibility, I have had this problem before but it was completely different to this. If you have driven a twincam with the tvis stuck open thats what it sounds like... which could well be the problem. Even when you free rev it whilst under the bonnet it sounds like this. I am running the original bluetop computer, copes with the increase in compression really well, af ratio is still fine. Also, the pistons are the original 20valve ones... should have specified this beforehand. That is why I said don't tell me it wont work, many people have! But I'm not the only one running this setup! The engine is a jap import 20valve bottom end untouched, the bigport head has been reco'd and the intake was cleaned up a while back including the tvis plate. Re did the timing to 10deg as per orig specs... but mine isnt quite original so it will be hitting the dyno soon to sort it out. Thanks again fot the input everyone... will let you know what I find!
  8. Hey all, I have a problem... well, it can be viewed as a good thing if you like! My car is an AE82 twincam hatch running a 20valve bottom end with a std bigport head and efi setup... before you say it shouldnt work, it does and is fantastic to drive! After the engine swap, I have to say I was a little disapointed with the performance. But now it going crazy... The car used to hesitate when you hit the accelerator and then would slowly get going (well, not that slow) until the tvis point where it would go like a rocket. Now it revs freely and has much crisper acceleration and the induction noise is wild! I'm running a pod so it was great before but now I can't hear the exhaust over it when you boot it. When you stomp on it in first it at approx 3grand it spins the front wheels to redline, didnt do that before. Also, it had a noise that sounds like detonation... But I'm not sure. I'm putting some octane booster in tonight to see if that helps. My question is, has anyone had problems with there engine doing this... if you can call it a problem? I hope I havent waffled on to much, just a bit shocked as it was fine friday and after not driving it all weekend its doing this now? Cheers, Jarrad
  9. Well, its been a while since my last update... so here goes the new problems! For some reason the car is going so hard at the moment, I havent changed anything at all (except giving it a really nice polish!) but the car just hammers! The induction noise is louder than the exhaust note when you give it shit and it spins through most of first gear... On the down side it is making a noise that sounds like detonation, also my no 1 injector has split a seal, so that is getting fixed this week (putting a kit through them all). Another rather large problem is the timing belt... Yep, its farked. See pic... Not sure how this happened but I'm lucky to have noticed it this arvo, I'm taking the car on the GOR trip this weekend and didnt want a timing belt to go then. My engine is an interferance engine now as well so it would have made a bloody big mess, so I have to fix theis before Saturday and have everything sorted. Well, thats it for now, will be heading to the drags at Calder for a run in a couple of weeks (if the car is still running) so I will post up some timecards! Also, heading to a dyno day next month, so power figures for the new engine will be up as well. Cheers, Jarrad
  10. Welcome Welcome Welcome! You have the right site for the early rollas, a wealth of knowledge to be found on here! Jarrad
  11. Not a stupid question at all.... Pretty sure its all the real deal, I will have a chat to a mate of mine who helped set up the whole shebang. They have a heap of room around the back so It should be a small drift track etc.
  12. Thanks for letting us all know. Much apreciated! Sorry to hear you wont make it, but don't stress, there will be plenty of pics and vids! Jarrad. Oh, and remember... Only a week to go!!!!
  13. Burnout comps on tonight and last night... should be quite a nice complex when its done!
  14. ^^^ just wait til I unload 3 peoples gear and 2 of the people for that! I'm going to be on bumpstops for most of the trip :) Must be a nissan/holden thing... I have never broken anything doing a good skid... never! Well, as we only have a week and a half to go we need to sort out departure points etc... I'm pretty sure I mentioned this earlier but noone gave a response? can't remember! Anyway, I was thinking the Altona bound Maccas/Mobile fuel station on the western ring rd... thats an easy to get too point for the melbourniens. Then we will head to queenscliff to meet the rest of the mob and make our way down to the ocean rd. We will need to leave there at 7:30-8am to be in queenscliff by 9am to meet the crew as they get off the ferry... Then we will get crackin and make our way to torquay, then Lorne and onto Apollo Bay. Anyone have a problem with this? Let me know. Jarrad
  15. Hey, well let me know if your coming to the trip... and if your staying etc... Hope the move goes well for you mate
  16. Bugger, hope alls well mate...
  17. Cheers for that... straight to the point and factual! Sealed battery it is!
  18. That is a good point, was just interested in the reasons why.
  19. What happens if you don't vent the battery box to the atmosphere? I plan on running my battery in the hatch of my '82 and hadnt thought of this...
  20. I hadn't seen this one before but I did see another trick a while ago. They do the opposite and cut small grooves into the piston sides down to the rings, thoery is that it burns the trapped fuel and gives a bigger bang. I have actually whitnessed it first hand and it works... to a degree, so I don't see why doing the head wont either.
  21. OUCH! Well, that sucks ass. Just remember, you only have a couple or weeks to get it on the road! Better get crackin! I'm cleaning my '82 up a little for the run, can't have it looking tooo bad! Might put some other rims on and a new rear muffler (too keep the missus happy) but we will see how the finances go!
  22. Ahh I see, starting to make sense now! If anyone knows how to get hold of him that would be sweet, he is one of the last to let me know if hes coming on the run!
  23. Just wondering if anyone knows what happened to Ash? I havent been able to get hold of him about the gor run and havent sen him on here for a fair while... I even tried his hotmail account but it just bounced. Anyone know? Jarrad
  24. Not sure about the SA crew, but I'm trying to get a gang together for the run... we have alot less ground to cover than you lot up qld way!
