and i believe i just stole that from doug's webpage :insane: as it says on the faq
if you want to hook an external ignitor dizzy up to jaycar hei, you'll need to do mods to the hei kit, it involves changing a resistance somewhere, i think the input from the reluctor sensor. if you can deal with the god awful searching system, karl skewes documented what he did to his on the oldcorollas yahoo group. he might have also posted it on his site, garagedori.com
i stuffed around with a 4k internal ignitor dizzy (and 5k internal ignitor dizzy with a dead ignitor) for ages and i couldn't get it working. i was using a camry ignitor (which normally gets its signal from the ecu, so i dunno if it was ever going to work) and an rx7 ignitor (which i hooked up and may have fried through lack of wiring diagram). in the end i gave up and regraphed a bosch points dizzy. if you search on the "dime quarterly" datsun site there are generic ignitor hookup instructions, and i've seen the ignitors they talk about out the back of repco stores, even though they're not in the repco ignition module catalog
stewart ford from oldcorollas can import starlet 4k elec dizzys with ignitor from america/canada for something like AU$160
