Super Jamie's Super Old Game Quote Quiz
Super Jamie replied to Super Jamie's topic in Rollaclub Social (Off-Topic)
correct :) i'll edit the first post with answers as people get them -
depends on what oil you use. i've seen 75/90 gear oil that's the consistency of thin synth engine oil. the pennzoil 90w lsd oil i use is thick thick thick, but you just do something else while it's filling, it doesn't take that long

haha welcome to the smell of gear oil, anyone you talk to who works on cars will agree that it's the foulest substance known to man if you've had a look at my website, you'll notice i used to have long hair, and you'll notice i'm now bald and shiny like a bowling ball :) i can distinctly remember being under my mate's ke70, when we did the auto to manual conversion, hair dripping with a few hundred mL of gearbox oil, thinking "f@$k, this really has to go"

i got to drive my mate nick's little racecar yesterday, it's a 1962 mini with no interior, a race seat and steering wheel, stiff stiff suspension and a worked 1100cc engine (cam, compression, oversize pistons, cooper s brakes, straight exhaust, twin SUs, etc) all i can say is WOW where to start! so much different to any car i've driven before. the steering wheel is fairly flat, it feels like a bus! the pedals are so close together, it took some getting used to so i didnt hit the accelorator when braking. the seat is really far back, so you feel like the nose is heaps far in front of you (like an rx7) but the car is so small its just like turning in the ke25, tight. and it's so small it makes my corolla feel like a spacious family car! driving it was heaps of fun. it's not road registered so we were limited to an industrial estate street, just driving up and down doing 180 degree handbrakies with smoke pouring from the back tyres :) it's got some balls too, it chirps second even with good rubber on it (yoko a539), but doesn't have the same top end that my motor has. the cam is a cooper s grind, which i think is a 51-21 10-50 from what i can find. i might get one ground like that for matt's ke70 we've been talking about getting into the grafton hillclimbs again later in the year, me in my corolla and him in the mini. he's getting me my cams license for my birthday. if i wasn't excited about it before, i sure am now WHEEE ;)

abbreviations are ok when you're say, text messaging and have limited space, or on irc when you want to get a reply in fast, but when writing on internet forums it's generally considered good ettiquette to make your text as legible as possible, so other people don't get a massive headache when trying to read what you have to say

empty oil from anything before not using in active vehicle service again. gearboxes, engines, diffs. but how many times do i keep making that mistake :) how did they get them to fit tell tell spill the beans come on! ;)
-
today i did the diff oil in matt's ke70, i used one of those large syringe type devices that alex described above, it worked really well! when i do it in the ke25, i have a coke bottle top with a piece of fuel hose taped into the neck. i put that in one of the drain holes in the spare wheel well, run the hose into the diff filler hole, and fill the diff oil from the boot :) and i always fill the gearbox thru the shifter hole, dunno why you'd even bother with the filler hole on the side

260 / 191 = 1.36 (evan's redcliffe to allstar correction) 146 / 110 = 1.32 (harry's redliffe to allstar correction) 69 x 1.34 = 92hp (fook's averaged correction to redcliffe figures) which i would say is about right. in general, i say engine kw = rear wheel hp and there's no way you can be losing 66hp (pretty much HALF your rated engine power) through a piddly little corolla driveline what sort of dyno does redcliffe have? you got pinky done at redcliffe didn't you? most people seem to take Dyno Dynamics figures as a benchmark. either way, that's not what dyno figures are about, cool that you have some indication of power curves, and AFR is super sweet now it's time for some head work :)

What Types Of Fuel Is Best For The 4k Engine
Super Jamie replied to David's topic in General Mechanical
back when i used LRP, it was fine, better than regular unleaded beacuse i had the timing advanced. but bp ultimate is better, that's all i'll put in this motor with its' high compression etc etc -
did you use a new cortina/escort mount or one from the wreckers? my favorite wreckers down here has a big bin of engine mounts i could go scrabbling thru to find a suitable rubber stewart spaced his between the engine side metal and the ford mount, with a ~4mm steel plate, to retain original engine angle wouldn't want to lower the engine much more in a ke2x anyway, there's about a pinkie finger's clearance between crank pulley and swaybar. and that's stock

LRP is supposed to be govt legislated to be 95RON. they used to do secret-shopper-like tests on pumps when it first came out, not sure if they still do -
wench is fine, my wench likes being called a wench, she calls herself a wench! or a booze hag, because she's a drunk (alcoholics go to meetings, she's just a drunk). rollie nikki calls me her wench! :) i've had some people find it offensive, but i mean seriously if you're my friend i don't mean it in any sort of disrespectful way, it's just a nickname wtf was this topic about again? ;)

i used to think the heat shields were a ke70 only thing, but i've had ke10 and ke25 engine mounts with the heat shield too. i can't run one, as it fouls on my extractors doug and stewart chop chop weld weld and use a cortina engine mount in their cars. i have closeup photos of stewart's somewhere if you're really interested

i noticed ben has this in his signature: KE20 2-door Corolla - 19.56 @ 67.43mph with closed points, 165 tyres, broken engine mount and a dodgy carby... out of interest, what side engine mount? i've almost lunched my second manifold side engine mount, and the dizzy side one isn't looking too flash either. my current manifold side one was pretty overrated when i got it too, so its not just old stuff. in a ke20 you can use ke10 mounts too, my distributor side one is from travis edwards' ke10 (yay props) i think you might even be able to use other manifold side mounts, i've never compared ke20/30/70 mounts. i have a modified 4ag mount somewhere that bolts to a K engine, but i think it slants the motor even more, but that's not good (enough oil gets trapped in the head as it is) new they're 90-odd dollars from repco, i'd hate to see a toyota price on them. i think next time i'm going to prop the engine up for a few days and get a corolla engine bracket mounted onto a cortina rubber, doug and stewart run them and they don't break

i actually kinda like it, it's good to dance naughty and close to the wench to when you're out clubbing :)

92 octane unleaded with standard ignition timing advance timing to 10-12 degrees and you can run 95-98 octane -
now you're starting to sound like grandpa "back in my day..." :)

to me, old school would be anything from an era passed. things that contemporary people don't like, so i like them to be different. for me, this starts in the 70s and goes back, probably until the 20s when you start getting into "vintage" territory i consider a 75 corolla, a 57 chev, or a 36 dodge hotrod to all be "old school". the whole 80s pretty much fits into "boxy plastic school" and 90s onwards is mostly crappy boring efi bubble cars beyond autos - old school is what you see during wintersun, that whole happy days, slicked back elvis hair lifestyle. it's 30s chicago gangsters with tommy guns in suits and pointy shoes. it's the 60s and 70s forrest gump style social revolution. to a certain extent, it's even boofy spiked 80s hair and shoulder pads i should have been born 50 years ago :)
