Looking really good :bash: Something I saw on one of the other rally forums that I thought you might be interested in - what they did was they raised the gear lever so that it sat closer to the steering wheel (to reduce time your hand is between the steering wheel and the gear stick). Looked like a really easy mod, apparently all they did was make a spacer plate to go under the gear selector frame, no modifications to the cables or anything. They also had a hydraulic handbrake lever that was mounted vertically next to the steering wheel (the slave cylinder was next to the transmission tunnel). This was all in a Mitsubishi Mirage Cyborg R. Very very cool.

I had the same problem with my LCA's (hitting the disc), spoke to my engineer and ended up shaving a few mm the lip off the outside of the LCA, and machining the hubs so that the discs sat further out. Now I have about 1-2mm clearance between the disc and the LCA, some people warned me that it might still touch, but in the 2.5 years the car has been competing, it hasn't happened. It did introduce another problem though - because the discs are now sitting further out, the calipers obviously also had to be spaced outwards. Finding rims to fit the car is a real PITA, the only ones I've managed to find are Hotwires (which are alright, I guess). Nice work with the car, I really like what you've done with the panhard rod. Any other photos of the setup, esp the chassis mount? Did you have to reinforce the floor area that it connects to etc? Since building the car I've considered putting a panhard rod in, but never actually gotten motivated enough...

Ovlov wagon - LOVE IT! :D

Just stumbled upon this thread. You do some nice work :) Keep it up! Gosh I wish I knew how to weld alloy. Oh hang on, first I wish I could actually weld *properly* :D

Trev: Mine is still (and will probably remain for awhile at least) an NA. Just starting to consider the turbo option and looking into what's required etc...
-
Hey Trev, Looking good ;) I'm half considering getting a turbo setup for my 100kW 4AGE at the moment, where did you get your HKS manifold from? Much $$$ I would assume?

Hopefully the inner guard and supporting structures aren't too badly damaged. I had a minor bingle with my SV21 Camry sometime last year, about 10km/h into a guardrail, externally it didn't look overly bad (cracked indicator, broken parker and headlight, no damage to bonnet) and when I started to take the car apart I realised the inner guard was a fair bit more bent than I would have liked... I've now replaced all the external panels, but some of the bolt holes still don't line up.

Wow, nice color, nice carpet!!! Look forward to seeing this somewhere in Ipswich soon :S

You must teach me how to bog like that. I suck at the bogging. I think my mixture is wrong? I can never seem to quite get it right...

Interesting... I've got my alternator on the "engine side" of the switch, and if I turn the switch off when the car's running, it cuts out. But I do see where you're coming from. Oh well, maybe next time I build a car...

I assume by "line side" you mean "battery side"? If so, why?

Reconditioned 2002 Corolla Dx Station Wagon

I wouldn't feel too bad about not being able to get an owners manual - they hardly tell you anything useful anyway. Generally the only useful information in them would be simple things like how to set the clock (which I'm sure someone here would be able to tell you), things like tyre pressure (you'd probably want to run about 36psi all round), service intervals (sales rep at Toyota dealership will be able to help), and umm... I can't think of anything else :kiwi: More useful to you would probably be a service manual of some sort. We have Gregory's books here in Australia, I don't know what you would have there. Or if you can find one, a proper Toyota workshop manual. -

Oh hey look :kiwi: Did a quick search on EE102 and EE103 Corollas, and yes they certainly did come out post 2000. Here's a Feb 2000 one in silver, just like yours: http://www.zenauto.co.jp/car/22042/index.html This page has a white EE102 dated March 2000: http://www.japancarsexport.com/stock.html And here is a white one dated 2001: http://www.alibaba.com/catalog/11655680/20...rinter_Van.html It looks like they were marketed as a commercial vehicle, a van of some description (although it's more like what we'd call a wagon than a van...), which would explain lack of creature comforts. Being a commercial, it's almost likely there was only one spec for it. Still, if you can source bits off a higher spec *E10* Corolla, most of them should bolt in. If you're after the electrical bits, you may need part, or all, of the wiring loom too. -

I should probably add that what is probably regarded as "POV-spec" here in Australia may be a standard or even up-spec model where you're from. They differ from country to country. The fact that your car doesn't have many creature comforts expected in a post-2000 car, and that it has unpainted bumpers and mirrors, suggest to me that it is the budget model, but this isn't necessarily true. The Proton Satria GTi (Malaysian car) is more expensive, and lower spec, in Malaysia than it is here in Australia. Go figure :kiwi: -

Here in Australia we have a plate riveted to the firewall (to state Australian compliance), it's a little bigger than a business card, has lots of little codes on it. It also has the month and year of manufacture, on my Corolla it has the numbers "9-75" which means September 1975. It doesn't actually label it as a manufacturing date or anything though, it's just a number stamped onto the plate. Does your car have something like this? Don't worry about the "new" old car thing. My dad (in Malaysia) bought a Landcruiser, brand new, new model and everything, in about 1990. It was the exact same model as he'd rented here in Australia in 1983. Car markets are strange. And POV-spec = low spec. ie, the "budget" edition. -

It might be a 2002 car, but if it is it's probably the POV-spec, hence lack of "nice post-2000" features. To find out year of manufacture, pop open bonnet, look at firewall. There'll be one, or more, plates with little words and numbers on it. One of them will tell you when the car was manufactured... Even if it is a POV-spec, if you can find bits off the "better-spec" cars at the wreckers or trading post etc, most of them should more or less bolt on. -
I think they're both ugly. WRX is such a disappointment. From the front, it looks just ugly. Nissan Pulsar? Or some other ugly car. Just ugly. From the side, it looks like a Camry. Slab sided, uninteresting, boring and ugly. From the back? Kia Rio. Bah, so disappointed. Subaru need to get a new car designer person. In comparison, the EvoX looks so much betterer...

... or if he had kept on going with the straight ruler he would have ended up with sort of a yellow panda scheme? ancullen: Hey don't you have a yellow rolla with black GT stripes? ;)
-
I wonder why they decided to go diagonally across the door, and then draw a straight line right across the rear wheel arch... But not include the actual arch? Maybe their ruler wasn't long enough to go diagonally from the A pillar to the rear of the car? ;) Have to give some credit though - the car looked very neat otherwise. No visible rust, or dings, or anything.

+1 vote for keeping ridiculously large wheels :D And wow, I've never seen those wheels in 14x8, only ever seen 14x7 (supra) and 15x6.5 (soarer). What came with 14x8?
