  1. Aargh I know.. but I always notice when someone has painted over hail and/or shopping trolley dents - most often on harlequin painted Hyundais. And to leave sanding marks would be a crime! So agreed, it's not a show car but I'm hoping to show some pals (who have some admittedly kick-arse cars) what I can do with 1/20th the budget. And once I saw Clapped-out Mat's cars I knew I had to pay some attention to detail. Besides, attention is free! Anyway next step is to mount these flares so I've done some tinkering. These flares came from Malaysia sans fixings and very flimsy. I read somewhere (NCOP? Or maybe from TMR) that flibreglass bolt-ons need a minimum thickness of 4mm. I put a dollop of bog at each fixing location and sat an M6x30 bolt on it and let it set overnight. Last night I glassed over and around the bolt heads with 4 or 5 layers of mat and then another layer all over to thicken up the rest of the flare. This one is now twice as heavy as it was before. I like it. Now for the other three! And to drill some holes..
  2. There's no simple answer, except the one your certifying engineer provides. I imagine AE86 front struts and brakes and whatever brakes your upgraded differential (if fitted) is fitted with, would get you a nice shiny firewall plaque.
  3. They made mention of a 16 valve "Schnitzer" engine. Was that the 152E? I'm guessing this engine never make it into a Corolla?
  4. More primer/putty.. Please excuse the bands of overspray - I'm just laying it on thick and plenty.
  5. Work's quiet. Taking a few days off. Gave the first coat some rubs. It was pretty rough and 400 grit wasn't getting through it so I wet rubbed it with 240 and will do another grey putty/primer coat tomorrow. iPhone photo uploads confoundingly rotated for inconvenience. Beer o'clock.
  6. Oh for sure - my mates are up me about lowering it. I'll drop the front struts out and reco brakes etc. and refit with some King springs for RWC then reset the rear leaves in Toowoomba once its registered. And the Jovites will sit an inch further out than these Performance wheels. Maybe not as far as the Cheviots though.. I've thought about painting some black faux Hoshino lines on them. Or like, electrical tape. But even then it will still be conservative by contemporary standards. I'm going for Sunday GT rather than track-day GTR.
  7. Well I'm still plugging away at this as time and funds allow. Brisbane winter weather has been so nice and I didn't have any other obligations so I spent the weekend in the yard re-learning how to paint. Moral of the story - even if the manufacturer says that thinning isn't required (for spray putty) always, always thin! I was 95% happy with the body so while there are a couple of little bumps and dimples here and there to attend to I was tired of making excuses not to paint! Getting some primer and putty down gets things moving again and gets me excited for the next steps. I'll rub all this back with 400, sort out and mount these bloody flares then prime for base coat. I've been toying with some ideas in Paint. I'll go with the red in a Mazda A4A True Red shade. We'll see if reality matches concept! (With different wheels..)
  8. Unless you're in Queensland. TMR can't "offer" emissions testing to all customers, especially in regional centres - so it isn't required.
  9. Amayama Trading list it as a $21 part. They are great to use in my experience! https://www.amayama.com/en/search?q=90363-30017
  10. Have you tried a spray of "Start Ya Bastard" down the carby?
  11. Welcome! When your car won't start on the key, is it able to be push/roll/hill started? Or will it fire, or try to start if you spray a bit of "Start ya bastard!" into the carburettor?
  12. This image often comes up any time someone wants to know the difference between KE and TE cross members. It's probably taken from the factory body/chassis manual, which come up on ebay from time to time - you'll likely need it for the rest of your measurements, though I'm sure someone here would have a copy!
  13. Is the wire to the anti-dieseling solenoid connected?
  14. http://www.rmcarburetors.net/Tuning%20Tips.htm ^ Listed on that page are the 2TG jet sizes. How is your fuel pressure? Are you using the block mounted 2T mechanical pump, or have you fitted an electrical pump? There are a couple of split pin holes on the acc pump shaft. Maybe try the other pin holes. You should get 1.5 seconds of acc pump spray when you open the throttle.
  15. So there's a 151E somewhere in the wild in Aus? edit: no
  16. I've got an old Wheels magazine somewhere that has a roadtest of an Australian delivered evaluation TE37 Levin. I posted a scan once back in the oldcorollas yahoo group - when most people were on dialup. I'll try dig it up.
  17. Nice work! I'm going to throw mine in a friend's ultrasonic polisher when I kit them, but yours look great. I'm so envious that you achieve all this in a timeframe that makes me feel.. lazy! The only real design flaw with these carbs is that the inner venturis always work loose as they are only held tight by the grub screw that goes through the body at 45 degrees, resulting in poor idling and economy. The grub screws can of course be tightened, but over-tigthening risks cracking. Try to secure the inner venturis as best you can with some kind of sealant and/or locktite.
  18. Buddha buddha buddha... That's the sound it'll make.
  19. I'd even recommend a couple of layers of fibreglass mat and epoxy resin (on both faces of the panel if you can get at them) rather than spatulas of bog - hard as nails, a bit more waterproof, quick and easy to work with. Then you can do the final shaping with a quick skim of bog. Anyway, looks like you've already tackled it. Many ways to skin a cat!
  20. What a fabulous looking engine they are!
  21. He may be considering running LPG because an engine built to run on propane exclusively can have a much higher compression ratio than one intended for pump grade petroleum.
  22. I think what happens if you get rid of the charcoal canister is you will smell petrol fumes all the time, especially when parked in the sun on hot days.
  23. I really like that colour! Is there a paint code on the identification plate?
  24. 2TG for the win! I look forward to seeing what you do with this one.
