  1. Cheapest and easiest is to replace like for like! A decent running 4K can be had for beer money from a motivated seller.
  2. These threads make for great reading. Don't ever change! I'd love to see what you could squeeze out of a 2TG but I don't expect you'd come across many of them in the U.S.
  3. One of my cars had similar problems with the brake lights when I got it. An incorrect globe had been mashed into the brake light socket.
  4. Supercheap sell a fiddy dollar aluminium number-plate-hole-mounted nudge bar. I'm going to get one next discount weekend. I have no affiliation with them. Oh snap, I have a club membership card - which I mention in the interests of full disclosure. Super Cheap Auto.
  5. Hi I've found this site to be helpful when considering the differences between K engines. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_K_engine
  6. Polar opposite to a KE70, while still capitalising on your acquired 4AG(Z)E knowledge. Kudos to you sir.
  7. Thanks Clapp - it would appear that jealously is all relative! I'd say all you're missing is some T series goodness - though I think I'd miss pedalling a 3TG also.. Thanks again for your help the other month. I did a quick test-fit and these chrome vents will look pretty special once they're finally installed and detailed!
  8. I'd been putting off doing any mechanical work because I wanted to finish the body work first so that the car would remain 4K and driveable throughout that process. The body work is getting there. I have been applying myself week nights instead of drinking beer and looking at it! But I enjoy mechanical stuff so much more. I'll just put these together. And pour a white rabbit.
  9. Gee its'a shame it's broken. When you pull apart a car, lose interest and cbf putting it back together, all the value is gone. It only took you five hours to pull apart - it won't take much longer to screw it back together. A few weeknights in the shed instead of watching the 7.30 report... Hopefully you can get your inspiration back and get a decent ROI!
  10. Unfortunately the low admission price of Corolla ownership is like flypaper for the flat-cap freaks. I'm sure collectively we all hope you'll continue to be active here with your new ride, Corolla or otherwise. i.e. pics or it didn't happen
  11. They would certainly do the job if you don't mind paying the shipping.
  12. Quite a few people have done it, though the results are rarely street driven. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=281629189530
  13. Will you sell the Spirit wing separately?
  14. An SC14's seals are fuel resistant. I've considered this, by eyeballing it for a 2TG. I think the main reason why bolting an SC14 to a 2T isn't common is that the SC14 is quite long and would foul on TA/TE engine mounts when adapted to mount on a 2T A/C bracket. However when a 2T is mounted in a KE using modified block mounts, the mounts are effectively 30mm further back, liberating enough space for the SC14 to nestle in there. Food for thought. Anyway - forget the idea of blowing through two sidedraft carbs. I expect it would be hard to tune. You'd be looking either draw through a single 32/36 Weber (but then you need to consider how you'll bypass fuel-rich air around the supercharger at idle - or just let the S/C spin in a vacuum at idle which apparently makes it get hot) or, blow through a single 32/36 with a rising rate fuel regulator to push up the fuel pressure to match against the boost. I mention the 32/36 because anecdotally they seem to be able to handle boost without needing to be in a sealed container or blowing out seals, can be purchased new (to mitigate potential problems) and you can get a nice turbo hat/plenum for them.
  15. Hi Danny, nice looking car. I think you've got a TE31 there! We didn't get those here.
  16. AMI was always bringing in evaluation and press cars (I have a Wheels magazine with an article on an Australian registered 2TG TE37 Levin) so I see no reason why early evaluation cars that may be stamped "whatever" wouldn't eventually make it onto the second hand market.
  17. My understanding is that the early liftbacks were KE50 and the later liftbacks were KE55. No real mystery there.
  18. While I would also be concerned about the method and safety of widening alloy wheels - if it could be done, I would get me some of this action. I'm a big fan of XX alloys. I just wish they were wider!
  19. Whenever I've googled the colour code on a Corolla's firewall-mounted compliance plate, for example; "Toyota colour code AZ" I get this page at the top of my results http://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au/colour_codes_toyota_A-G.php Are you matching your original colour? Do you know the paint code of your car already? Otherwise you could scroll through that page, or the next, and find the one you're looking for by the year range. If you post a pic someone may know.
  20. www.toyodiy.com is a great site for identifying part numbers and then cross referencing those numbers to other vehicles that use the same parts. It's a little trickier to use since they took down the diagrams but the part names/descriptions are quite clear. www.amayama.com is an excellent site for entering in those part numbers, obtaining a competitive price and then ordering genuine/OEM parts direct from Japan. If you can wait a couple of weeks for them to be delivered, the experience beats counter-jockeying at your local Repco, hands down.
  21. These guys are in Brisbane but ship Australia-wide and claim to stock all new windows for this car (and probably all old Corollas I'd say). http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=400339143559
  22. If they're not available in auto parts stores in California, you may have better luck on eBay. That's where I bought mine. A lot of Toyotas from that era use the same boss the only issue you may have is whether the indicators cancel properly but you'll know how to mod it when you see it.
  23. Ahhh in that case I'd certainly recommend putting a KE30 one back in there. Put up a "wanted to buy" ad (in the wanted to buy section) with a photo of your current passenger seat for a chance at getting a matching one. However this site is a bit slow these days since the flat-cap kids discovered Facebook. For a more instantly gratifying response, add yourself to the KE55 KE30 owners, Rollaclub and E-chassis Sales Facebook pages and place a similar advertisement there. With some luck you'll have one lined up by the end of the day! Be sure to include your location (you'd be surprised how many people don't).
  24. G'day Kevin, Firstly can I ask why you're looking for different seats? If it's because yours are a bit ratty, I've found that getting them re-upholstered is surprisingly affordable and looks great - with the added benefit of not requiring any modification plates!
  25. Yeah nah, my sedan is AZ. AZ is "Buff" http://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au/colour_codes_toyota_A-G.php
