  1. damn I want to read this but the work PC is having a fit over the size of the PDF.....!
  2. Depends what you want, boost or not I suppose. 1)CA18 turbo is a good motor and tough and will make plenty of ponies easily 2 and 3)I'd say both are comparable for price and availability of parts 4)Depends purely on how you build it, drive it and service it. Both are tough and robust 5)don't know a lot about 4AGE's but the CAs out there you'll get from a wrecker are probably on their original head gasket and are likely to start going. They also have a sump that is a pain in the ass to stop leaking once you pull them off if you don't do it properly. 6) NA 4AGE is 100kw, CA18det is ~135 I think. You can get cheap easy ponies out of the CA though. The 4age install will likely be easier and cheaper, but its not going to perform as well as the CA Turbo.
  3. Temp circuit is a really simple circuit, just chase the wire back to the sender, it's a simple single wire. check its plugged in everywhere etc.
  4. i would have thought changing from a k40 to a k50 wont change your speed reading - it will read off the output shaft so will stay the same, and it would be unlikely they run different drive gears etc.
  5. I did exactly that to my old bluebird.... If you've ever owned a bluey, you'll know about the window regulators........ hear hear for adelaide and melbourne haha.
  6. and maybe an office with a view?
  7. Mine is a factory maroon. There's that funny pale green colour too.
  8. I got a lancer one the other day, but its a 12 inch. I reckon I might be able to fit it at the front, I'm about to go and check... Given the stock fan was a steel 2 blade, anything should be an improvement!!!
  9. Very keen to see these pics when it's done. Great to hear he's putting so much effort into it, sounds like it'll be a real looker at the end.
  10. My engine builder suggested that 30-40 thou was about the right compression thickness for the head gasket on my 5K
  11. Where'd you get your thermo and what did it cost? Any pictures of how you mounted it? Cheers TP
  12. Redrilling should be fairly easy I would have thought, but I've not heard of it being done. Give it a shot and let us know!
  13. yeh that looks better with the headlights! There's a later more wedge type one as well that I dig. What are they worth over herE?

Yeh, I was at toyoland yesterday talking to the guy. the young bloke that works there races it, 4agte 170kw. He was taking it to Sydney today.
  15. ahh the smell, the smell....
  16. I'l take the lotus corty. The Alpine is cool too, although there were better looking models.
  17. Volumetric efficiency, its not a rate its a ratio. Its the ratio of how much fuel air mix can enter the chamber vs the actual chamber volume. All about head design and cam timing/overlap etc.
  18. thats tough with the dragways....
  19. Your water/coolant expands as it heats up under normal operation, and the relief valve in the radiator cap will allow water to pass if the pressure gets too high. Once the water cools, you'll have to top up. Take a look at the end of the overflow line when its hot, you will find water. As mentioned, you can fit an overflow bottle, which allows a "buffer" so that the water passes out into the overflow and is the siphoned back in once the engine cools and the water contracts. they have kits at motor parts stores.
  20. 5K is seriously underway. I got a dial gauge out and the deck-piston clearance is more than I thought, will bring my compression down to the mid 11s (with cam overlap). Might just get a tiny bit of combustion chamber opened out if the comp is too much. But I can run premium if I have too. Also, I discovered a source of E85 (tbc) and this might inspire me to get it tuned for E85 even sooner!!! Crank and Pistons all in now, oil pump shimmed and fitted. Cam and lifters will go in Saturday. Going to baffle the sump so I'll try set that up this weekend. Pics to come Saturday as well....
  21. Hey folks, I pulled apart a 4K nippondenso dizzy tonight to get a good idea of the advance weights etc. I'm going to take a punt at recurving the thing myself. The cam plate has stamped in it 4G. From my reading, it seems a common thing with some dizzy's that you can get different cam plates to change your total advance etc. Does anyone know: - If there are different cam plates available to fit and where would I find the part numbers OR - If this particular dizzy is used on other cars (ie - I might be able to pull apart other ones to get the guts and maybe find new cam plates!!) If someone has similar info for Bosch dizzys then that would also be useful. I'll rip apart my 5k Elec dizzy in a few days and take a look inside that too. TP.
  22. Yeh for sure, I might even add it to the FAQ.
  23. Damn, wishing I checked this thread before I went to the wreckers today. Came back with an early 90's lancer thermo, but its just too deep. I'll take it back saturday and swap it for a pulsar one. Cheers Red.
  24. Nice one Taz and Styler. Got all the info I need now! I migthink I'll run with the recore job. I'm going to the wrecker tomorrow though, I'll have a peek in the VPs VNs and see what I reckon. Also, anyone managed to get a quick easy thermofan setup including shroud? And I don't mean screws through the damn fins.
  25. Haha. Try it. Will be funny. Hypoid gear sets are all matched correctly, you definitely cannot mix and match like Dwarf said.
