  1. Early X2 & X3 Hyundai excel radiators seem all the rage these days, being fitted into everything from TA22's to AE86's etc. Perhaps investigate one of those.
  2. :( Sorry, but that goes into the Rollaclub vault along with my mullet photo.
  3. I vote your place! I reckon you would be a dab hand at whipping up a parma or two. Yes, I have never liked Bell's, things were the same when CCCV used to meet there. Plus the food is fairly ordinary. But it is a problem finding somewhere centrally located. And I can't say I have any brilliant ideas.
  4. I just can't get to South Melb on a Tuesday night after swapping my work days to suit kids swimming etc. Hoping like hell, the hint I saw somewhere that the meeting location may be changing is true!
  5. Oh really? And you base this claim on what exactly.
  6. They are fine. Have had them in an AE86. The off the shelf springs keep you at a legal height. The ones I had are variable rate. If you are planning some club sprints etc, probably a bit soft. For daily driver duties they are perfectly fine, and what they are designed for. Most people go way to hard and way to low. Plus ideally you want to match your spring rates to your dampers.
  7. Well this is what Vicroads say: "Change of engine 1. Replacement engine is identical to the original engine, or is an option allowed by the manufacturer for the same model vehicle The optional engine must be offered in Australia by the vehicle manufacturer as an option for that vehicle (or certified variants). The change of engine may be recorded by VicRoads provided that the registered operator or a motor mechanic, or dealer in that make of vehicle or an Automotive Engineer signs a declaration certifying the engine is optional for the vehicle model, and that all modifications made by the manufacturer for the same vehicle model with that optional engine have been completed. You will need to attend a VicRoads Customer Service Centre to have the vehicle's engine inspected to confirm the new engine details. No appointment is required. You will also need to complete a Change of Vehicle Description form. 2. Replacement engine is not of a type offered by the vehicle manufacturer as an option for that vehicle or where alterations, or changes to the vehicle's frame or structure are made, and/or specially fabricated supports or structures are used You will need to attend a VicRoads Customer Service Centre for an inspection of the vehicle to confirm the new engine details. You will also need to complete a Change of Vehicle Description form and provide VicRoads with: * a VASS Approval Certificate from a VicRoads Vehicle Assessment Signatory * an original receipt for the purchase of the engine as proof of ownership of the engine People are always trying to interpret this to suit their own particular position. There is more information here where you can download the 'Modification Guide" What's the answer? In your case I really don't know. Realistically the only way to be certain, is to write to the: Manager, Vehicle Safety Branch 60 Denmark Street KEW 3101 If you do, please scan a copy of their reply and post it up here.
  8. A few things are available, but not a lot. I am on pretty good terms with a spares person in Melbourne, where I take in the part numbers from the master catalog and she looks them up. There is an Australian system and also a world (presumably Japan) system. She looks up both. Most can't be bothered if it isn't on the EPC, and that only goes back to about 1977 I think. I'm on good terms because I know the numbers and I don't screw her around. It is pretty rare that anything comes up though. Even the AE86 gives me trouble. Body and trim is essentially non existent. The last success I had there was the 20 dash pad. Essentially if a part has ever been ordered into Australia, it will appear on the Australian system, otherwise they need to look it up on the world system. If available on there, it needs to be ordered through Sydney.
  9. Out of interest Tally, I presume you had to take in your original? Or do they have some sort of pattern book.
  10. From memory, it was a while ago, the late bigport pink injectors used the same loom plug as a 3SFE Camry. May or may not help. but gives you a general idea regarding interchangeability.
  11. I have previously tried to buy plugs at a dealership, and got laughed at. Was told in some instances, loom sections are available, though doubtful for what you need. Plugs are not. Apparently at best, the workshops have a "box" with commonly required terminals and possibly plugs. Basically you will only find what you need by sourcing a second hand loom from somewhere. FWD looms are easy enough to locate on forums pretty cheaply. Try AE86DC. As you say, the plug styles change completely. If you look at your wreckers for a Toyota from the same general time period, you may find the plugs you require from there. But there are a lot of them, and plugs are often specific to a particular sensor within a model range. Why? No idea.
  12. A playmate! Parts car or another build? Looks too good for a parts car.
  13. http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?showtopic=42773 Hmmm :hmm:
  14. I'm about to fit some Recaro LX's in my AE86. Didn't want to hack up my existing Jap seats for rails, so found a pair of stocko seats and cut the rails off those. Had a good look but it wasn't going to be that simple to modify them neatly and safely. Important your seat mounts don't break whilst going around a corner.... Had a look on yahoo, and there are millions of purpose built rails to suit various cars and seat types. So now have a pair of rails on the way for my exact seats to go into an AE86. Cost $106 each set (plus post etc of course) I would have a look around, you may be surprised.
  15. Looking great Tally K & H and no doubt others make a dedicated window sealant. Basically you install the window, then lift up the edge of your nice soft rubber, and pump it underneath the seal from a cartridge gun, till it starts to ooze out. Keep working your way around. It never sets, and never leaks!
  16. But he stills need the various fittings and hose. The fittings can add up surprisingly quickly. Edit: sorry just realised what you said. My RWD 4AGE never came with a oil take off plate. I did pickup an AE82 bigport Aus fitment one later on though which is banging around in the shed somewhere. Longtime since I looked at it, but I'm as sure as can be without pulling it out that it isn't thermostatically controlled. Perhaps your thinking of smallport ones?? Not familiar with those
  17. I know you're adept at picking up bargains here and there  , but have a look at this website in the UK. Their cheaper push on hose range is well priced and with the improving GBP to the dollar, well worth looking at, and remember you are paying VAT free prices. I picked up my thermostatically controlled set up on the AE86 through them. Very helpful with technical assistance too. Later when I realised I needed one different angle fitting, I couldn't buy one in Australia anywhere near the price even factoring postage. And it arrived within a week. The downloadable catalogue on the website has useful technical info on the subject too.
  18. So you mentioned you wished you had more detail on its history. Where did you find it? Looks a great job you have done. There's a few nice ones around now, will be great to see a few on the road when Homer's KE15 gets on the road, plus whoever buys his current KE17. I've PM'd you
  19. Now that is a serious flywheel!
  20. Years ago a few of my mates went rotary, inc an RX2 rally car I navigated in. Very strange feeling with power delivery just continuing to feed in and no engine braking. Then there was the 13B PP RX3...... There is a reason so few of these cars are left now. Every meeting at Phillip Island, at least one of them would roll. Awesome package in such a small car!
  21. Yes the flu was last year. One big win I had was a SL dash cluster with the speedo in kmh via Japan. Pleased with that!
  22. I think I dropped off this thread about the time you started talking rotaries.......but have caught up now. I just about fell off the couch laughing at that engine mount.
  23. Just chatting to Cam and realised I should update a little. Not much happening. I badly want to get my KE15 in the shed and get started on it. The AE86 is so close but I keep having minor hiccups or opportunities I can't pass up that delay things. i.e. lately, decided to pickup another AE86 GT brake proportioning valve for when I get started on the te27 (will have AE86 4 wheel discs). Look on import monster and found the complete GT fuel /brakelines with valve cheap. Have always been annoyed by the messy adaptation of the fuel lines. So bought that, waited 3 months for it to arrive. Need to pull half the car out to swap the lines over - done. Start thinking about recaro's. Mention this to aaron at Import monster when picking up some purchases, tells me he has a pair in the warehouse out of a JZA70R supra for $250! Bargain. So now working out how to fit those to AE86 rails which I picked up out of the pickapart Sprinter recently. First time I have ever seen an AE86 at the wreckers. Went to install my brakes with stainless lines I bought 4 years ago in the UK - lines don't seal due to wrong fitting on the caliper end. So they have been sent back to Fensport for replacement. Very frustrating. Otherwise, still slowly stockpiling a lot of NOS parts for the various cars. Also did a roadtrip into NSW to pickup some rare KE15 bits. Finish work on a Friday night, drive 6 1/2 hrs through Gippsland to Bombala, sleep in back of car for 2 1/2 hours, meet guy and load up car, drive 6 1/2 hrs back to Melbourne. The things we do for our cars...... My next month is a bit of a write off, so won't get anything done probably.
  24. Couldn't you just take your KE1x pressure plate to a proper brake and clutch workshop, and have the pressure plate drilled to suit your new flywheels dowels. If the diaphragm doesn't provide enough clamping pressure, get them to rivet in a replacement diaphragm. In the days before uprated pressure plates were available off the shelf for most applications, this was what you did. Then you could use a KE1x driven plate. The average Midas won't have a clue, but find a decent clutch place and they should be able to do it.
  25. What about one off a KE1x or KE2x! Well this is rollaclub......
