  1. That sucks. :) Maybe you'll stop thrashing your panel van so much now? Haha. Engine looks awesome... I never thought about the fact that carbies would get rid of most of the wiring crap... good idea.
  2. I can say from experience that this is the car to end all cars.
  3. Haha. We should do zig zags again sometime in the future. :)
  4. Hahaha yeah I reckon. Best cruise I've been on. Zig zags, gravel parking lot and hi rolla's epic drifting!
  5. There's a few threads on this already floating around.
  6. Hey. I'm just wondering if there is anything wrong with my 'hose' setup: I've got one of those black three-way connector things with all kinds of hoses going off it... does it all look ok? Cheers!
  7. Yeah but I don't have the time or money to do it. I had to take today off work just to get it done... I dunno why it was leaking hey.
  8. Hm... I fixed the fuel return leak... but then the fuel line that supplied fuel to the carby started leaking... and there was also a leak from one of the gaskets... so I'm taking it off. :( I'll get the money back though cause I haven't paid Chris yet haha. I'll buy something else off him like ra60 struts... :P
  9. As always, a huge thanks to Chris for selling me a 32/36 DGAV Weber. He said it was off a Cortina I think? Which I think he said is a 1.6. I was really excited when I got it. With instructions from Chris, I went home, cleaned it all up with some carby cleaner and attempted to install it all myself. It was so much fun... really starting to get into working on these cars. The thing that was pissing me off was the fuel line from the fuel pump... it has these two weird nuts on either end... I was trying to use an adjustable spanner but it just doesn't do the job. So I ended up just getting the carby off and spinning it around by hand. I didn't have a vice grip and so was screwing around for 2 hours trying to find a way to get one... finally got one and got the headless bolts out. Got the heat shield, adapator plate, carby and gaskets on and realised I didn't know how to fit the return spring or it's bracket onto the carby so I had to get Chris to give me a hand with it (cheers Chris!). The fuel return outlet (bronze thing) can be spun around with pressure from my fingers so it's causing a fuel leak. I put a rag around it and tied it up tight, but the rag just got soaked after a drive. I rang up a few places.. most of them mentioned super glue... Something else I noticed was that the accelerator pedal is so much easier to depress with all the fiddling around with the throttle cable and the nuts on it.. a lot more fun than before. Anyway, it works well on the 5k considering I have no idea how old/what kinda condition it is in. The one thing I did notice was that when I got into the higher gears and I gave it a bit of throttle, it wouldn't accelerate.. it was like one big flat spot or something. If I didn't accelerate too hard it was alright but I'm very curious as to what this would be... Rang up a place and they said to check the advance and the fuel line. Will do that soon.. Here is a vid of it running.
  10. Hey man. I had this same problem and ended buying a catch can from super cheap. Also, take a look at my video which more or less shows how the catch can should look except the cheap hoses (I bought proper black rubber fuel hoses) and positioning (which is up to you). When I pick up the loose hose, that is the end that goes into your air filter (in your case I dunno what it would be since you're running an EFI setup).
  11. I'll pm ya.
  12. Hmmm ok. The problem is that the way the outlet on the air filter that the hose goes onto is positioned means that it's always going to kink unless I can find some elbow or something...
  13. There was an oil leak somewhere yesterday... I think it's from the kinked hose... but it looks like it's coming from the engine block...
  14. Why are you selling your car? :P It was awesome... I might buy your rear suspension setup though.. :P Talk to you about it on the cruise if you come?
  15. I have no idea what that is :P Haha. Got any pictures of it?
  16. Hey. There is a build-up of thick oil where my spark plug leads plug into the rocker cover... what is this indicative of? Cheers. :P
  17. I was going to do it but I figured I'd have to search through all the mat in the inside of the car to find where the bolt end is... I ended up just drilling holes into the strut tower... doesn't look too bad but it would have looked better on the firewall.
  18. The bolts that are supposed to bolt the bracket down to the can are completely crap... I had to go to a friggon hardware store and cut down some different bolts... this whole thing is taking way longer than it should... About to drill into the firewall... any places I should look out for? I'm going to do it more or less directly behind where stock air filter sits... Edit: Ok... ended up drilling it to the strut tower since it was gonna be too hard to do it on the firewall... here's a video of it all together. The only problem is that I cut the hose that goes from the catch can to the air filter too short and now it's kinked just before it goes onto the air filter... is the air going into the air filter from this hose really that important? Will it affect the car's performance at all if it is kinked (until I buy longer hose)?
  19. Hey. Are there any areas in the KE70 firewall that you shouldn't drill into? I'm looking for somewhere to mount an oil catch can and the firewall looks like the best option atm as it's close to the rocker cover/air filter and has a lot of flat surfaces. Cheers.
  20. According to Hiro it can get messy if you do that. I'll see what happens.. if there's still a lot of oil going into the air filter I'll have to have another think about it.
  21. $60 later and I'm on my way to a relatively cleaner air filter!
  22. Perfect explanation. :P I'll take the breather back and fork out the money for a catch can if they have what I want. Cheers!
  23. Also, once you do get a catch can... does the vent you're filtering still end up passing it's air through to the air filter? In most pictures I see they just a filter in the middle of the hose and the hose just keeps on going...
  24. Haha ok fair enough. Is there a use for my oil breather once I install a catch can? Or do I have to take it back to where I bought it and convince them I never used it... :P
  25. What are you using instead?
