  1. Neal Bates is apparently building a RA40 Celica with all his 3SGE nous in the engine bay... should be a sweet sounding stonking rally car...would get me out in the forest for a look I can guarantee that!
  2. Other thing to remember is this model Crown is worth fark all on the second hand market... i get people ringing me regularly and whinging that they paid so much money for it when it was new and now no one wants them... "It was advertised as Japan's Rolls Royce you know" Yes yes... and now its worth $1500 if you can find someone to buy it!
  3. By the way the meet time is 8.30am... apparently that bit is missing from my copy and paste of Dave's email :)
  4. Update... clutch sorted... New issue - no idle mixture screws in my rebuilt carbys.. think they have been left out accidentally :( Anyways I got it to briefly fire tonight so happy days!!
  5. Well with a workshop free of race cars, I decided last weekend was prime time for doing the engine change in the Celica! Thursday night the guys helped me whip out the old engine in under an hour... many hands, beer and a hoist make light work! Then Friday night the boys helped me give the engine bay a really good clean and it came up great. Lots of kudos to Loctite Natural Blue degreaser... I then painted the cross member flat black as we took off most of the paint with the degreaser and pressure washer :) I then spent Saturday and Sunday fitting everything up... engine was in Saturday night... Sunday was fitting carbs, plumbing things, wiring things etc etc... didn't quite make my Sunday afternoon fire up as planned, but its close. Big thanks to Matt for stopping buy and lending a hand too... and doing a quick dash to Repco when I needed it most! Couple of niggles I need to sort: 1. Clutch only starts to give some pressure near the floor... not sure if it needs more bleeding, or an adjustment at the pedal. I have run out of adjustment on the pushrod... so hopefully will fiddle some more tonight and get it better. 2. Battery was flat so I couldn't get it running... hopefully it charges up today and it will be all good. 3. My gearstick is awfully close to the dash in 1/3/5 gears. I will take it out and try it the other way, but I am pretty sure I already put it in with the bend pointing away from the dash. Are there different sticks for different Toyotas? This isn't the stick that came with the box... it was a god awful shortened thing.. so I sourced a separate stick from someone here years ago..... Anyways pics tell the story... Dodgy gearstick? Oh and in other news I worked out why the front of the car was not sitting at a "lowered" height... got done by another set of standard height king springs sold as "lows" second hand... grrrr... so need to acquire some king lows for the front at some point soon.
  6. The November Cars Coffee and Donuts is going to be held out West of beautiful Melbourne at Werribee. I have googled a cafe called "The Coffee Pot Cafe", so hopefully the info is up to date. The address is 1/70 Watton Street Werribee VIC. There is ample carparking on this main street, and a variety of cafes if this one is no longer there. As per the title, I will bring Donuts, please bring yourselves, a car of interest if possible, and some money for a coffee if you so desire. I'm hoping that third time lucky we'll have clear skies and no rain. This is a TCCAV official event, so all CH and H plated cars welcome. Feel free to invite non members with interesting cars, or anyone that would be interested in seeing what we've got. :) If need be I can be contacted on the day or before on 0422 328 332. Hope to see lots of you there. Regards, -Dave
  7. Anyone know if there is an MS65 crown at centre rd? I know I should go look since its just down the road and I promised Tate a fuel filler cap... but i haven't got there yet... and this is to answer a question I got from the car club website...
  8. My old KE10 got hot even after everything was cleaned up like yours - water pump, rad, etc etc. Ended up being 40 years of oil sludge built up in the engine and the head - engine eventually seized and a 4K fixed it good :)
  9. Meeting is tomorrow night... be there :)
  10. Congrats on rego Harvie... nice to see it all finished :)
  11. You guys interested in having some Celica's etc come along? I can spread the word on toymods if you like?
  12. If they are 4x110 and don't suit your KE70, spread the love here to the early KE owners and pass on the details.. I am sure someone with a KE10 would love those for their car, they would look great!
  13. I should have mentioned I nominated you huh :) A little polished, almost flat centre would look good. The ones that come with the wheels wouldnt be nice! We make some at work for some wheels our performance people sell... let me know if you want to work something out for you ;)
  14. Crashed what was 12 months ago a very nice original nana spec KE35? Anyways glad to hear you are OK. Shame about the car but metal things can be replaced... heads are harder work. What was the story behind your crash?
  15. Thanks Scott... the cabins looked very civilised :) Post up a photo of your Kombi!! Narooma sounds interesting.. we are heading to day of the vw down here in melbourne in a few weeks. Can't wait :)
  16. Funny I spotted the kermit machine turning on to Queens Rd... we must have been close by :)
  17. So the Winton 6 Hour has been won and run... my preparation for the event was very minimal. I fitted a set of Project Mu HP-X front pads, thanks to Racer Industries, on the front... and at the last minute decided to fit some new rear pads, just Bendix Heavy Duty's as that is all I could get at the last moment. Braking was massively better with these pads, could really lean on them. Drove the car, up fitted the semi-slicks up there, flogged around for two days, fitted the road tyres back on and drove home Sunday night. No dramas, no problems, no damage, and lots of fun had! Best time of a 1.50.something on the Sunday which isn't bad for a little shopping trolley. Here is a couple of videos from practice... sadly I some how lost the memory card that had the Sunday race footage on it :( Practice 1 in the wet - Practice 2 in the dry - For next year's competition really need to get a fixed seat... get some camber into it with camber bolts.. and fit the koni's I have for it. But that can be after I have got the Celica on the road! oh.. and I just remembered, the weekend wasn't completely damage free... i nailed a galah on the freeway on the way home and the bugger put a big dent in the bonnet as his head went through his ass..... what a way to go!
  18. You can also get some of them from this gentleman http://www.scottsoldautorubber.com.au/TOYOTA%20COROLLA%201966-70%20KE10-11-15-16-17-18.htm
  19. I reckon you should ask your question in the technical thread. KYB do an insert that works well, and yes I have read numerous times an MR2 insert will give you less travel. However I understood this to be for the *T13* strut housing... you need to check what diameter the AE86 strut tube is internally, and whether that matches up with the inserts you are looking at.
  20. A t-series diff from the Celica will be stronger than the KE20 one.. and I am guessing stronger than the BW too. Also opens up options for fitting a LSD if you wish.
  21. Peter is not just a wrecker, he is a mechanical workshop working on old Corollas every week... so he will know what parts can be sourced new as well.
  22. Scott's is the place to go... the ebay stuff from Thailand is ok for a while... but not good after a year or two by all reports.
  23. I can go have a look for you if you like Tate.. its 30 seconds from work.
  24. Might Charade has another run this weekend.. this time at the Winton 6 hour. It now is running Project Mu front pads as the QFM pads seemed to give me a less than impressive pedal feel. Its also running Tate's spare battery since he borrowed the mighty machine to use as a wedding car.... yes yes... I also thought WTF?! :)
  25. Cool car... love your front lip and its rising sun logo
