Any One Else Got A Ra40 Celica On Here?
silverra23 replied to morgzz's topic in Automotive Discussion
I have an RA23 that I have been restoring for the last 5 years. It just got back from the paint shop and I am looking forward to putting it back together! www.toymods.net has a massive celica community, you will find many like minded souls there. -
What Inserts Have You Used In Xt130 Front Struts?????
silverra23 replied to JDM55's topic in General Mechanical
I used Koni yellows in mine, but they were not short stroke. The part number is in my KE35 club racer thread. I get the impression the KYB's are a good well priced option. -

I am going through a similar thing with an 18RG at the moment. www.toyheadauto.com has some listed, but they will take you over your 1600cc limit. they are a good reliable supplier for old toyota parts www.atomicspeedware.com (Arias) have a listing for a 3T-C so I don't imagine a 2T-G would be beyond their scope, same for Wiseco. I am currently trying to find out if JE will do a custom piston for me at a reasonable price. If you want to shop local, I am told Special Piston Services in Dandenong are good, kickn5k has a connection there I believe. http://www.toysport.com/webpages/WebUpdate...neParts/2tg.htm - that site has them listed and a reasonable price. He told me my 18RG ones would be a special order and I have got varying reports about the trustworthiness of that business, so I am trying to find another option. A few guys have told me that his pistons come from Venolia and all said the pistons were good. Perhaps it would be worth contacting them directly. Basically though, its not going to be an off the shelf piston, you are going to have to get it through special order.

Looks fantastic!

Pretty normal to loose some of the transmission fluid if the tailshaft has come out, and that will definitely change its shift behaviour if the level was not checked.

Are you going for a look on Friday? I assume so! -
Thanks for the bump. Not as much progress as I would have liked. The vacuum hoses are a mess on it, so I need to visit a wrecker or Dave and try and work out what's missing and where they all go. I bought some well priced king springs for the rear for after rego inspection, which weren't meant to be chopped, but turns out they are :D oh well. Might offload them again and get unchopped ones. Also got a steering wheel coming from SA for it.. should have been here by now but courier seems to be taking a while!

Need Accurate Advice On Ke35 Suspension
silverra23 replied to springersrolla's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
OK I was wrong - you do need to weld your spring platform to the Corona strut. This thread is a goldmine of information for what you are doing http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.p...ighlight=%24250 And this is the normal Corona/Pug/Hilux thread that I also referred to often when doing the conversion http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.p...ght=pug%2Fhilux -
Water pump impeller corroded? Fan shroud? Dodgy fan? Not much left.. other than a cylinder head full of gunk and it just doesn't cool downn properly. Me KE10 was a bit like that

silverra23 replied to springersrolla's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
Oh and Corona LCA's are the same length as KE35's, so no need for them. You do need the steering knuckle thing from the Corona that bolts to the bottom of the strut - the Corolla one is slightly too narrow. -
Need Accurate Advice On Ke35 Suspension
silverra23 replied to springersrolla's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
There is a massive thread on doing this on toymods. There isn't much that isn't covered there. I am not sure you weld your KE35 spring platforms on your struts. I think you use the Corona strut and platform and the Corolla strut top. But I could be wrong. A good welder will be able to do it, if you aren't confident get someone to do it for you, its not worth the grief! If you like at my KE35 link in my signature, its the same as the nostalgic car stuff. -
Its in the middle of a huge carpark for Officeworks and Harvey Norman (its the other side of the freeway from Chadstone Shopping Centre) There is also La Fiamma restaurant in a similar location. Or maybe Matthew Flinders Hotel - not sure what its like on Friday night, or any other night for that matter. Or Lazy Moe's on Warrigal Rd Oakleigh. Not a very big car park though.

there are some good options around there.. hogs breath springs to mind

Damn perfectly located for me to come too. I think the TCCA christmas party is on that night, so I am thinking I better go to that.

Every toyota I have owned thus far has had its original radiator in it, and they have all been farked. I always fiddle around the edges.. do a thermostat, change the coolant, change the water pump, but ultimately end up getting the radiator reconditioned and my problems go away. The core clogs up with rust and everything else that floats in the system and eventually hardens to the point where DIY methods arent going to budge it. One way to check this is to put you hand on the front face of the radiator once the car is at operating temperature. You can often feel where there is no flow by the lack of heat in the core.. some parts of the radiator will be cool to touch, others will be uncomfortably hot. Put a thermostat back in it too, they are there not only to allow the coolant to flow through the system, but also to restrict it when needs be so that the coolant spends enough time in the radiator to be cooled down.

I am intrigued to know what duck tap looks like... sounds uncomfortable for the duck :jamie: I use repco branded tools for my diy stuff at home, supplemented by bits and pieces I have acquired over the years as I have needed them. Best bet is to go have a look at a few different kits and get a feel for the quality and what you feel comfortable. SP tools do seem to have some competitively priced kits out there at the moment. Kincrome is always price competitive, but that has sometimes been at the expense of quality, though it appears to improve as the years go on. I have also read and heard good things about Teng tools but never used them myself.

Need Accurate Advice On Ke35 Suspension
silverra23 replied to springersrolla's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
What is your budget my friend? This will make a big difference! As far as I know, its hard to get a decent shock insert for the front. This, along with the ability to have much improved braking performance, is the reason people upgrade to the Corona XT130/RT132 front strut. They have plenty of good aftermarket inserts available. If you are on a budget, buy some king springs for the front, a monroe insert for the front and a monroe shock for the rear, have a play with the rear leaves and see how you like it. You might also look at fitting a front / rear sway bar which will make a significant difference. If you have a bit more money, go the Corona strut. Do a search on how to do it as it is well covered here and toymods. The corona strut will let you run kyb's, koni's and many other good shocks, and you can put something similar in the rear. More money again would be coil overs, but that sounds like over kill for your application!
