  1. Idle is a nice, happy 650-700rpm :) I'm just glad I tensioned the kickdown cable, now when i go from neutral to drive at the lights, it doesn't sit, then clunk into gear, just clicks and goes. The only modifications would be wheels, exhaust, extractors and maybe lower it an inch. I'm not too far off having the cash (well, I'm halfway there..) so just need to hope it doesn't sell before I'm ready to take it for a serious test-drive. Is a rather tidy example, two tone blue over grey, standard with electric everything, tow pack, cruise control etc. I don't know much about the reliability/fuel consumption side of things with these, but they seem like a comfortable car of a reasonable size, without being a commonwhore or falcooon. Maybe a set of black 17's with a bit of chrome dish would suit it ;). Alright, next Bucket issue I want to sort out for good.. Dash/interior/headlights flicker when car is turned on. They don't flicker with the car off. The HU is fine, but everything else has the flickers.. Is it an earthing issue? Where is the earth for all of this located? :S
  2. Not good with electrical items, but ill describe it anyway.. Instrument cluster and headlights have a slight flicker at all times when on at same time as car.. When turned on separately, that is when the car is off, they work a treat. Not sure what's happening, but even the interior light does it too. Head Unit and amp are both fine, and all fuses look sweet... Guessing it's an earthing problem? If so, where do I find the earth for all this?? Thanks, Sam :)
  3. Okay :) Just tightened throttle cable and kickdown cable, wow, talk about a change in instantaneous acceleration :laff: Goes like the stink now, so much happier to take off with minimal throttle, and happy to wind right up before I'm even at half throttle. Used to be a case of completely mashing the thing until it wanted to go anywhere. Drives like a real car now :) Alright, so to avoid flaming (be nice guys) thoughts on a 91 Pintara TI, fully optioned from factory with the 96kw 2.4l engine? Found one for $2500 with rwc and rego, looks nice, low kms and seems like a good step up from the AE92 :)
  4. Wow, nice cut down on the 60-footer :)
  5. I still can't comprehend how P platers,of which, I have been one for almost 12 months now, believe they are so good on the road.. I'm not the best driver, but I like to think I read the traffic, conditions and situations around me in a manner that keeps not onlymyself, but other road users happy and safe (not to mention keeping the fuzz at bay, rarely, if ever, get pulled up, and even then it's simply a breath test). Whats the point of trying to flog an under-powered car with poor braking capabilities and slack handling in an area where there is the potential for something to go horribly wrong? Yeah, i've given my car a right royal arsing before - on private property. On the roads, it's a different story. I've spun out in the wet in my father's car (91 VN Commodore) from simply hitting oil under gentle braking, that was more than enough to scare me stupid. I'd never get into a car with someone who is happy to push their car with me in it. I simply sit there with my hand on the handbrake as a warning to be sensible or we'll stop very suddenly to those select few mates of mine notorious of erratic behavior. Either that or I take the keys and drive it myself. I plan on keeping my driving record clean for my entire driving career. Memories of catching public transport everywhere is enough encouragement to play it safe on the bitumen and keep that little piece of plastic, not to mention the rather large piece of metal that I have the privilege to drive with it, safe and sound. :)
  6. Spotted two clean, stock ke70's today (one in Kilsyth, the other in Ringwood). Both CS and driven by the elderly. Was impressed :)
  7. Ahk, Ill give it a go :) Might actually improve response :) Hmm, so what would a roadworthy ae82 twinky (even just the 86kw version) set me back? That extra poke in an ae82 really would justify to me the lack of power windows etc :)
  8. DAYM! Those wheels like so nice on this car :) Out of curiosity, what do a set of them + rubber set the average joe back? Ideas ideas ;) Keep up the good work! Loving these cars more and more :D
  9. I'm not entirely sure, initially thought it was sump, turns out it's a little higher, but havn't pinpointed it as of yet. Yeah, i'kk have a crack at that, but I don't want to over adjust it to the point where it begins playing with idle speeds (mate did it to his VL, now idles at 1200rpm..) Sadly, with very little I can do without completely custom parts, it'd be better off me selling it shortly after purchasing another car. I'll keep the rims from it and probably sell it as is for 1500-2000 with whatever rego it has on it. Yeah, prefer a Toyota. Maybe a levin of some description, but I want a liftback or a sedan with a higher spec engine, none of this hatch with an underwhelming donk thing. Maybe an AE96 Ultima or something. Whatever it is, I'd love some more poke through the rev range, rather than everything being up near redline. If I'm REAL lucky, an AE101 with a 20v ;)
  10. People who DON'T drive to the conditions.. It's DARK and WET outside guys, so that means you SHOULD be leaving bigger gaps between you and the car in front, and driving with your HEADLIGHTS on. I love it when I leave a nice safe gap for braking in these conditions and some dopey knob decides it is the spot they wish for their barge to merge.. No indicators, no headlights on, no regard for the changed conditions.. Seriously, I have had my license 11 months and I drive a lot better than you..
  11. So.. Leaking oil once again.. Can't win on this f@$king car. Going to get under it soon and seal EVERYTHING with as much gasket goo as physically possible. That'll work, surely :) Question: How do I tighten my throttle cable? It's a carby model (for those of you playing at home) and I can feel the slack in the pedal a bit now, would prefer it not to be there really.. Had a big change of heart recently. Going to upgrade within 12 months to a 4cyl with more tuning potential, better optioned (power windows etc) and more easily accessible modifications (extractors, CAI etc) with similar fuel economy (probably better as it will be newer). Yes, I do love bucket, and if bucket had these things, it would stay as my baby. From now on, should probably be simple maintenance and that's about it (just like the new plugs and leads I put in, and cleaning the carby out etc) :)
  12. Waiting for paypal.. Man, they suck.
  13. Going to try to make my car spotless tomorrow. What are the best method(s) that people use when it comes to cutting and polishing/waxing their pride and joy? I'm a little unsure on it and would love some suggestions/input. The paint isn't the best quality, but I want to try to get as much shine as I can out of it. So; What product(s) do you use and what is the best method for cutting and polishing? Thanks, Sam
  14. Cars. Fix one leak and another pops up.
  15. It's already gone. Ah well. Haha not off roading, simply take my car off the road (carport out the back) for repairs and upgrades. Update: Have a lead on a cheap ae82 sedan that ive calculated will cost SFA for a RWC (other than some time and learning). :)
  16. Itchy eyes. Bugging me so bad, tried eye drops, washing them out with water and i've been dabbing them all day long with moist tissues..
  17. Cheap to buy, but it'll be something I'd spend TIME on rather than a boatload of money, as I can't take my car off the road as I need it every day..
  18. So, there are plenty of rear bars in white at the wreckers, but all the front bars have been taken. Damn.. Looking for a project car right now too.. Need something at home for CHEAP to play with..
  19. That's all you want really, something with a nice little note to it, without grabbing attention all the time :) I've seen those extractors, but don't want to buy anything without knowing what needs modifying first.. Sent emails to the sellers for questions and have received squat in return. On a side note - your car looks so immaculate! such a clean example of one of these little beauties, I'm just a lot jealous :rolls: Update - Sealed a leak in the rocker cover today :) no more pooling oil now :)
  20. WGMG: Never feeling physically well, no matter what anymore..
  21. Will do a wreckers trip tomorrow and see what I can see really, then i'll probably give my mechanic $20 to use the hoist to check/change them over and check my engine for leaks while I'm under there ;) Nice find! Any power increase? Washer bottle is in good condition, pretty surprised when I yanked it out. I've bolted it to where the air mixture valve was bolted, and upside-down mounted the bracket for that without having to reposition it in order to clear the drive belt. Extractors... Off Topic: VY Commodore or BA XR6? Looking at them in next 12 months (keeping Bucket, just want a nice comfy cruiser/daily when Bucket gets taken off the road for some serious plans ;) )
  22. Update Installed parcel shelf, used 16mm MDF instead of 25mm, can still be lifted by the tailgate with no problems ;) Fixed another niggly problem today. Washer bottle was losing water.. Checked motor - worked fine, checked connections.. whaddayaknow.. 90degree plastic bend was fouling on the drive belt and put a hole in it. Put a new 90degree bend on and moved the washer bottle across slightly to avoid fouling and we have liftoff :) Also pulled the exhaust manifold heat shield off and gave it a quick wet sand and put it back on, a heap shinier and easier for the next stage of prep when it gets primered and painted :)
  23. Ah, so it's fairly easy to do then :hmm: I'll look into it when I have a little more in the way of finances. I think the actual mounting plate for the rear bar has been hit in the rear damage, causing this. If I can get the car on stands then I can inspect it more closely. Half the size? Nice! How big is the pipe? 2inch? Might be the same as mine, nice and throaty down low?
  24. To Newport.. Mate, keep your wallet tucked down your jocks.. Western suburbs aren't the best, and Newport isn't on my 'must return to' list. However, goodluck with the car :)
  25. Ah, my sneaky exit from repco without having to do a u-turn ;) I was considering it, but I'm not sure how well they will sit. The rear of the car is damaged and I'm guessing thats why my rear bar sags a little, whereas the front one is pretty good. Plus.. I don't know how to remove them *facepalm*. Cheers mate :) I'd love to see your 92 in the flesh!
