  1. SNAP - I told my wife probably two weeks in advance that that weekend was devoted to getting the motor in and nothing else mattered. I still got screwed :hammer:
  2. Interested in what you mean by mega noisy??? I am thinking of one of these for my fuel setup. Where did you have yours mounted and could you hear it constantly? These Facet pumps are supposed to be around the $30 - $50 mark apparently according to the guy at Autobarn who was trying to sell me a Carter one for $200. Oh we don't stock the cheap ones.....
  3. It might seem like it is coming along quick but I have been gathering parts for the best part of the last three months. The car has been off the road since two days before Christmas, so nearly four months. I didn't want to start a thread until I had some progress as I didn't know that it would all come together as I had planned. So far it seems to be going as planned so I am pumped about it. I took a heap of pics of it last night and this morning but then left my camera at home to upload the pics. I will remember it tomorrow :hammer: :P
  4. Nice find, will be good to see it once you have cleaned the good inch deep layer of dust from it. I reckon it will come up quite nice underneath all that :hammer:
  5. Auto brake pedals are fairly wide it would probably be dangerous to use one due to lack of room for each pedal etc. You could make some money from this idea if you are handy enough. You would be better off just manufacturing them and selling them for a price rather than on an exchange type arrangement. You would be able to find tons of auto pedal boxes at Self Serve Dismantlers as noone wants them. If you go to one of those places have a look at the manual AE71s, there is never a pedal box in there but all the autos are untouched. Actually after thinking about it you could probably use the pedals (brake and clutch) from a KE70 pedal box. They are a dime a dozen as everyone gets rid of them for a AE71 setup. I have definitely given this some thought and given how many people want these damn pedal boxes there is an opportunity there in the market.
  6. I wasn't online over Easter but I have lots of whinging to do.... This Easter was the worst ever for family things, we had about four including one at our house. All I wanted to do was work on my car and get the motor in but noooooo, another family do to go to. You start half doing something, then gotta clean up and get all respectable again to see the family. I ended up getting up at 5am on the Monday and worked my butt off to get the motor in before the next family do which was at lunchtime. I was still working on it when they got there which brought about some sighs from family members but I didn't see any of them offering to help. The motor is in so I am happy now but next year me and the wife are going away to escape the family. WGMG - Easter and family dos.....grrrrr :hammer:
  7. Mate those Superlights look awesome.... :hammer: Good idea on buying them new, you won't be disappointed with them :y:
  8. I have also given this some thought. Given the price of AE71 pedal boxes these days it is worth thinking about. Best bet would be to take the pair of them (auto and manual) to a metal fabricator or welder and see if they can make something up. If it can be done for say less than $100 you are laughing. You could sell them for $250 each and reap the rewards. Also, the amount of auto pedal boxes there would be around to make it from would be plentiful. Most of them probably see the bin. The only issues you would have would be finding a manual brake pedal, they are smaller remember and also finding a suitable clutch pedal. Again these could probably be made up by someone with the appropriate skills. If these had to be made up though the cost would probably outweigh just buying a factory one from someone.
  9. Thanks Matt. I just read your write up on the conversion, I could have done with that a few weeks ago :y: It will still help me out with a few technical things I have to complete. Thanks for the tip on the KE70 throttle cable, couldn't believe how easy it was to change and it fits perfectly :hammer:
  10. Matt this is a freaking awesome write up. Yager now have the thermostat pipes in stock again, $155 plus post. Mine should be arriving in a few days. Thanks for the write up Matt, I will be referring to this for a few extra tips as mine is almost complete now. EDIT: Another way to get around the alternator mount fouling on the engine mount is to use washers under the bolt holes for the alternator mounts. This spaces the alternator far enough away so that it will slip over the engine mount. I used five flat washers under each of the alternator bolt holes then used a slightly longer bolt to go through the engine mount bolt hole. Worked a treat and no cutting required of the alternator bracket. It will obviously push your alternator further out at the bottom requiring some adjustment on the belt tension.

    Spotted

Spotted Henry's KE10 at Oakbank races on Monday, love the crown hubbies and the new whitewalls :hammer:
  12. Made some big progress over the weekend. Engine is now in and completed the install of my manual pedal box which was half done previously. I left my camera at work so no progress pics but I will take some pics tonight of the engine in the bay. Was an epic long weekend of working on the car though, so so happy right now :hammer: Still a fair few little things to do, but will do them over the next week or so, then just need to get an exhaust made and send it to a tuner to be wired and tuned. Getting close now :y: :y: EDIT: Car is booked to be wired and tuned next week. Far out I have some work to do between now and then.
  13. Found this pic on the net during my searchings. Thanks to the owner for the pic!! Some inspiration for my rocker cover I think. I still would like to run the front timing and water pump covers though. Have to find out whether the crinkle coat stuff is ok on plastic.
  14. In SA car goes through full mechanical inspection and testing. $137 first inspection, $66 each further inspection. No time frame given between inspections, just a list of things to be fixed and not allowed to register if it has run out of rego between times. Now you may think this sounds ok but what if you get Inspector A one time and he writes you a list of things to fix and says if they are fixed it will get through. You then get Inspector B next time and although you have fixed the items on the previous list you are given another list and asked to make another appointment. Also, if a Police Officer in SA sticks your defect sticker upside down, this is an indication that you will have no success at Regency. After the police officer leaves the scene and before the sticky has dried, peel it and stick it up the right way. If an Inspector sees a sticker that is upside down, you are on a hiding to nowhere I am afraid. If you had to go to multiple inspections you would be looking at hundreds of $$$ not to mention the cost of a permit $45 to drive it down there each time to get checked. It makes it very costly to get these old cars back on the road when they are not worth more than what it would cost to get through.
  15. Thanks again for the parts
  16. It looks kind of gangster with the whitewalls and black steelies. I love it. I keep seeing this old Mazda Wagon near my work with this look, with the visor and also rear and side venetians and it looks so rad. The venetians and visor can be had brand new through a place called SA Auto Accessories which distribute through Sprint Auto Parts. This is where I got my venetian and visor through. Expect to pay about $300 for the pair though, maybe more because you have the side venetians too. I know it is expensive to buy them new but they are hard to find second hand and are usually thrashed out hard.
  17. Sam I bought the parts from you  You must have forgotten already :) The only part I sourced elsewhere was the Yager Thermostat Kit as I don't have the mad skills to perform the water pump mods you suggest. I am very happy with the parts you sent me, I trial fitted them the other night and they fit perfectly. If you didn't know any different you would think they were there from the factory.
  18. Sorry for the random pics, will tidy this thread up when I get some more time. Another pic of the roof spoiler, side view. Still not attached properly here, just wanted to see what it looked like
  19. Aren't you from Tasmania, I doubt you have what we call 'Regency' and if you do it will be a lot different to ours. Here in SA Regency is a wonderful place where your bum gets treated indecently and if you do not provide your own lube it will be a painful experience
  20. Charlie it would probably be worth giving this shell one go through Regency, it is quite clean after all. Just not worth spending say $1000 on repairs and inspections to get through I suppose. Such a shame the previous owner got it defected as it is quite clean compared to most wagons
  21. Mate you have asked this question many times on here. It might be time to venture out and see some people, or get on the phone. A workshop is more likely to take your query seriously though if you go and see them. Go and see Brenton at Fours N More, he knows way too much about Toyotas and will be able to point you in the right direction with this project. Failing that go and see Buddy Parts on Marion Road, he is doing this stuff day in day out and is bound to have what you are looking for. I am not recommending either of these workshops by the way, I just know they deal with this stuff everyday. I have had experience with FNM and Brenton before, and he is an absolute gun when it comes to Toyotas.
  22. If you were going to all the effort of the 3SGE is there any reason why you would not go the extra to a 3S GTE?? Since Stixy you have said no go on the 20 Valve does anyone want to give a rough guide to costs for a 4AGZE. The motor alone would have to be $1500 or so at Importers prices. It also depends on how much you can do yourself Stixy....
  23. I could just do the whole thing in black crinkle coat. Wonder if that stuff is ok to put on the plastic valley cover?? The valley cover is pretty thrashed out anyway I think due to the way the motor was stored so I might just leave it off altogether  Benzo yours is going to rock with the 16v in it. 4K is just way too slow man. I drove one the other day and couldn't believe it. I had forgotten just how slow they really are
  24. Thanks guys, but yeah I tried QLD also. The issue has now been resolved as I finally after prob 3 months of waiting, got in contact with the company and they got the part now and are sending it to me. Problem solvered
  25. Scrap the idea, contact has been made with Yager and they are now sending the item. Sorry to disturb, just had no luck so far (until today) contacting them.
