You can use the left hand side engine mount on the right hand side for one engine mount on an upright application if your being a lazy bastid and can't be arsed building one flip it upside down and drill a couple of holes and cut a bit off,if you do build all the mounts you can use a cortina type mount as well $15 nz each new.As for sump baffling add a plate at the rear of the original so you can just squeeze the oil pump pickup past it block the holes at the front and sides of the origional baffle and that should be sufficient for a road car with some club racing, additional gates or vertical baffles will be required if you really go quick around corners on a circuit,my avatars my 1430cc 3k uprighted have a look at that for an upright sump idea.

I wouldnt go fitting a W series box,a T series box will handle a fair bit,i agree with Jamie get a rebuilt box or do it yourself easiest box there is to do pretty much, what you have to remember is your dealing with what is now a fairly old box thats done lots of work and nothing lasts forever.

Nope they`re cast proud of the crank surface when they`re made. :Þ
-
150hp...7psi 4k i doubt it,i reckon my modified 5k only has 160-180hp on 12 psi.
-
Grease is your friend. :D
-
Cranks are the same, but blocks are different in quite a few ways.
-
I`ve got 83mm JE forgies going into my new race 5k 1580cc,getting the block/blocks i have sonic tested so i`ll let you guys know how thick they are.

Wouldnt hurt to get a surface grind if your doing a headgasket to ensure the head is perfectly flat sometime a blown headgasket will form a little "track" where its blown and if its not corrected it`ll just blow again.008" inlet and .012" hot just in case you havent got metric feeler gauges :) .
-
Yeah but they`ve got a big stroke and some swept volume in relation to 4ks,i can't say i`ve sheared off any tailshaft nuts/bolts with my supercharged 5k mind you i never really launch it hard in first it just spins up.
-
Hehehehehe thats funny you can never have too much low end torque out of a 1300,try shortening the extractors for more top end how long are they at the moment?
-
4 into 2 into ones give better midrange with the sacrifice of some top end power 4 into 1s give less midrange and more peak seeing as how most people on here are into build road motors 4 into 2 into 1s are the way to go. The more radical an engine is in regaurds to camshaft timing the more critical and fussy they become in the exhaust, bigger diameter pipes move the torque peak up the rpm range smaller pipe diameters move it down changes in length of the pipes tends to "rock" the torque curve around the point of peak torque. If you have a mild cam and its for the road any decent set of extractors will be fine.
-
Good for you,bet he`s built lots of K series motors.
-
I fully disagree there Jamie,i recommend 4 into 2 into 1s.
-
What`s your clutch master cylinder diameter? if its too small it wont provide enough fluid to move the slave cylinder sufficiently to disengauge the clutch or maybe you need to look at changing your leverage ratio on the mastercylinder pushrod ie where you`ve drilled the hole in the pedal move it down lower.

:P  :P

Sounds to me like you need a set of U code ke2x series axles with a ke70 3.9 in it then buy TRD`s 5.1 trd lsd minus the 5.1 ratio(if he`s prepared to separate) then you`ll have same wheel stud pattern as std a stronger 6" set of final drive gears and a competition lsd centre on your 3.9.This setup takes a lot of punishment and keeps the car std and is very easy to do all bolt ups. :P

Yeah well i`m a bit further south of ashvagas, anyone going to watch the timaru rally this w/e? Mr Revhead you crewing?
-
Ahh well i`m going to try and spin my new 5k race engine to 9000 rpm and make power there,i`ll let you know how long it lasts for before it goes bang.
-
My father raced a 3k ke20 back in the 70s with 79 mm trd pistons and trd rods(1293cc)trd valves, springs, retainers, pushrods&cam he spun it to 9000rpm and ran it on methanol the jets are HUGE he said it gave the engine about 30% more power over running on avgas but i doubt he had 165hp.

Yes oil feed comes up through number 2 camshaft bearing turn the engine over with a spanner on the crank whilst spinning the oil pressure tool (i use a old stripped down distributor shaft in a drill with no gear obviously)and when the drilling in the camshaft aligns with the holes in the camshaft bearings you`ll get oil pressure feed to the top end this is by far the best way of priming a K series engine prior to first start up.

What you lot on about...a guy i knows got one in his car its got 318hp at the wheels on a new hub dyno its rapid, boost limited due to class rules to 18 pounds boost.

Who Has Done A Mechanic Apprenticeship?
blown 5k replied to rjenman's topic in Automotive Discussion
Yeah well i went to a pre apprentice course back in 1988 took good time off the hours for the apprenticeship course was 441 every hour at the course removed 2 from the total hours so when i started work my apprenticeship was a total of 7112 hours instaed of 8000.There is a shortage of trade qualified/A-grade mechanics over here in NZ and nowdays we can get good money but apprentice wages are still ratshit my mate was going through an outfit that has apprentices and puts them into different places etc he was earning under minimum wage!they got away with it due to calling it a teaching program what a joke!.In saying all this once you have a trade behind you you can go anywhere in the world and use it.Personally i agree with the guys that say you`ll get sick of cars if they`re your hobbie as well i know i do. -
Ok ok i`ll go have a look when i get a chance the guy i bought it from ordered it new from japan and he reckons its a us spec ke35 T box bellhousing so thats where i`ll start :angrybird:
-
Basically the box is done apart from serious modifications to the tailhousing to allow for 5 speeds in reverse in case of a spin  we never got ke55 here but i`d say they look like ke30 floorpan at a guess gearlever in the same spot so yeah it`ll bolt in,as for a part number for the bellhousing one day if i have some spare time i might go and look it up... but then again why should i when ive got one already :angrybird:
