Make sure its not a wet day (or your paint wont dry) and its not a hot day (it'll dry too fast) and make sure its not windy (do it in a shed).

House of Kolor (i think its spelt that way) is pretty good but damn expensive. Your best bet is to go an automotive paint specialist, who will mix you up whatever colour you want.

Best bet would be to spray acrylic as enamel requires baking. Most people say you can't get acrylic to shine up straight off the gun and that you will need to spray a clear coat to get it to be nice and shiny.

Honestly, do some research on Google about spray painting. There's HEAPS of info on the net about it and how to spray acrylic and get it to be shiny WITHOUT a clear coat.

That's about all i know. My mate is a panel beater/spray painter by trade.

i worked for the guy that painted the "shaguar";

i used deltron acrylic enamel single stage on the cricket 5 years ago, unfurtunatley i used laquer primer and it is seperating a little, but this is after spending 5 years uncovered in the sun and the last year under an oak tree.

it will shine just fine w/o a clear but you should cut and buff anyway

You can get acrylics to shine, but not off the gun. You don't need a clear coat unless you're painting metallic paint, flat colors come out fine if you spend a little time buffing it to shine. I've been told to run it very thin to help it to shine better.

Make sure it's not too humid (raining), and not too hot.

i recon 2 pac 606 is the only way... it is twice the price though. It covers really well, and if used correctly gets a better shine of the gun than buffing can. I have painted a few cars in both acrylic and 2pac, and i think that for an amature it is definately worth spending the extra $. Also respritory gear should be used :D

it's illegal to spray 2pac without a booth, and EPA fines aren't cheap

don't stress too much about the paint, just find a color you like. spend the money on good thinners, it affects the quality of the shine so much. the overall finish will be reflected in how much time you spend on pre-spray preparation and care between each coat

i'd clearcoat it, even with acrylic, then spend the time cutting it back and polishing it, the finish is so worth it

Isn't there an issue of 2 pac being highly carciangenic(?). I know my uncle who is a proffessional painter wont touch the stuff without protection where acrilic and enemal he would quite happily spray without any safety gear.

Yep, you need to wear a full body suit and respirator when spraying 2 pac paint to keep the nasties out of your body..

Yes, the clear coat adds another layer of protection for the paint (as does painting on another layer of color). But what the clear coat really helps to do is add "depth" to the paint, which is especially true for metallics and pearls. However, if you clearcoat your car, touching up can become a little harder, as it's 2 different paint "colors" that you have to touch up, or it will be obvious where the touch up is.

I sprayed my car in Acrylic. Yes, you can get it to shine straight out of the gun. Simply spray the car as you would normally and heres the "Tip" Finish it off with 2 quick coats of a really thin mix of paint and thinners (careful not to get runs here). A trick is to dip a metal ruler into your pot - Pull it out and count to 4 seconds. The paint should just start dripping (not running off the ruler like it did for the first 4 seconds). If its still running/dribbling after 4 seconds, then thin your mix out more.*This is the perfect mix for spraying the initial coats*

The thin mix should be about 2 seconds.

The most important tip to getting a good shine is to use GOOD quality thinners. If you decide to use Acrylic, then buy a good brand Acrylic Thinner. GP or Multi Purpose wont give as good a finish. (i forget what brand of paint mine was - but i'll check in the shed tomorrow).

Gravity feed guns are also a lot easier to use, and tune to get a nice fan.

The compressor you use is also crucial. You need one that is able to keep up with the CFM your gun is capable of putting out. After all, you don't want to get halfway through a panel and not have sufficient pressure to get a nice spray pattern from the gun.

Spray it in a shed, with a pedestal fan on to direct any over overspray/mist out an open door.

"Buy a good quality respirator". My first paint job i did in a shed without a respirator. I had headaches, nausia and was shivering constantly for 2 days.

After a few weeks when the paint is fully hardened (usually wont take that long - but its a peace of mind thing for me) rub it back with 1800 and 2000 grit wet and dry to remove any orange peel.

Then using a foam pad on an electric buff, cut it back with 2-pac superfine cutters. Make sure the pad is moist and spray water on your panels to make sure you don't heat up the foam pad (if you don't, it can burn the paint and your foam pad will break up faster).

Then 2 coats of polish. :P

But remember, Its all in the preperation. Spraying $300 worth of paint/thinners over shitty prep work will only be a waste of your time and money.

don't bother with a clear cloat, unless you decide on a metallic paint. Most auto paint shops will tell you this anyway.

jesus, that paints schmick

look, i know this is almost a completely different thing, but i've gained a bit of experience in painting pushbikes (i think i'm getting alright now :P ), and the cheap paints are shit and easy to get runs on. spend the money on getting the good paint unless your a bloody good sprayer.

i use dupli-color, its in a can but i know you can get it in tins.

make sure ur prep is good or it'll turn out shit, you wont notice the inperfections in the primer coat but they come out in the final coats.

afterwards, enjoy ya work!

ps. remember bog is your best friend

Kanga's car shines so well it

had a yellow reflection alround it

as he pulled in my driveway.

PPG groupA 2pac sprayed wet on wet is the best you can get.

(That takes a proffesional to do the job)

As every one has said a good quality thinners is vital.

The other crucial part is preperation. Make sure it is spotless

and rub down with prepsol make sure you wipe off the excess.

A mate(who is a spray painter) painted the evil HQ in

singwriters background paint (enamel) and with good prep

and good thinners mixed pretty thin it looked so good i was

asked had it been painted in 2pac
