alright so i wanna weld the diff in my AE71,

but ive never owned a corolla before. so would it be better to wait for next winter to come around, or just go for it?

and are all the axels and stuff strong enough to drive it around day to day, or should i start collecting a few spare diffs, axels etc?

If you weld it will break. What, I don't know. But it will break things, which things nobody can say, most likely welds will fail because you cut corners and didn't do it properly, then the axles will break from the fatigue loading. Also it's common to see front and rear quarter panels fail so I'd stock up on them.

It's also illegal so expect defects. Just buy a second corolla that you can register in a hurry.

Yes, "why"....

Do you know what a diff is for??

..and do you know what welding it will do??

What we desperately need is someone to engineer a simple LSD dropin for the KE70 using some common cheap components such as gears and clutch plates, even if we have to machine new carriers ourselves.

lol why? Because he obviously wants to be a fully sick dorifto hero.

I will be watching out for smashed stoby poles around adelaide, maybe even a fence or two.

lol.

No but seriously what are your intentions??

bud if you are happy to understeer in the wet when cornering, have a f@$kload of embarassing moments in car parks with comments like "hey your cars broken" being thrown left right and centre and rattle your car to pieces then do it..

I personally like them :)

So I have a locker.

i drove my mates car around with a locked diff a few times.

CA18det in an ae86.

i mean sure it was a pain in the ass in carparks, but it was pretty good when moving.

though the locker tries to keep the steering straight (as expected) so its quite weird to drive with at first.

you just have to keep reminding yourself you are driving a hand grenade that will do weird things.

but if you want to drift....its a cheap way to do it.

oh yeah its completely illegal and dangerous too..

also why does it matter if its winter or not?

winter would be the worse time.. getting used to a welded diff in the wet which is the worst time to drive one.. i've driven several ke70's welded diffs,

they slide well. but, as a daily... rubbish. you can't turn corners without hopping, can't go to fast round corners without being fully hektic uleh sideways, and i'd like to see you park with one hand.

in the end, is it really worth injuring/ killing someone or crashing your car to get taily in your daily?

It's quite simple.

Welded diffs are not for cars driven on the street - ever.

It will be the single worse thing you will ever do to your car, until you write it off (hopefully without hurting anyone else).

Although something will probably break before then to save you from yourself.

all this talk of spare axles to replace etc.. i was under the impression once they are welded you can't get the axles out rendering the diff useless..?
