sounds like the guts of the ign. backing plug have burned out

anywhere from $1000 to $15000, whats cheap? the paint alone will be $600 odd dollars, then theres the sandpaper, masking, booth time, and painter shmick costs

ke30 through ke70 and ae71 all the same, corona 1.5 mm wider spacing on the hole centers, no idea on the AE86 (88mm center to center on the KE before you ask)

didnt plan on working on the car monday but after i dropped the kids back to their mothers i got a little bored so stuffed the XT130 struts in, 1.5 mm difference in the hole centers to the third arm! WHY!, frigging 20 minuits with the puller to change some bloody part that didnt need to be different, thanks toyota stop reading the holden guide to building cars 3 more hours on the tally board

$250 ute is runing good, on lpg anyway, the petrol is a little dodgy but with the price of the stuff... who cares i don't plan to use it i don't think I'm brave enough to drive this thing to my house the 4k in the other one got lively enough and if i loose it nobody would find me for days (guess i could slow down haha) a day off is needed, i need to get home an load up all the xt130 brake stuff i have there, and the 15" mags in the laundry, with the extra wheel track rwd mags arnt fiting under the guards

started on this project at last, after work yesterday i dragged out the ae71 i had put aside for parts and stripped it out, then i brought in the ae81 (?) i had put aside for the twin cam and stripped it out, then i dragged in the ke30 body 23 hours on the spanners later and i have h/duty rear inverted eyelet rear springs in, a ae71 wagon diff under it (100mm wider track), full ae71 eng. x,member with rack and pinion, 4age and 5 speed in! was going to wire it up tomorrow with the public holiday but i couldnt be stuffed, going to go see the kids instead

how much for whats left of the coupe? (not that you want to sell the baby i know)

i don't recomend this but in all my years driving i've never had insurance what is it $2500 a year? 12 years driving = $30,000 2 right offs (just the cheap run arounds) $2000 1 0ther car hit $3000 I'm $25,000 in front! i would have to be doing something realy stupid to do more than $25,000 damage to someone elses car, and i know mines not worth that if i loose it the risk i run is that if i do that kind of damage i need to come up with the cash, rather than effectively having it held in trust by an insurance company (and years of dealing with them... well i just don't trust them to pay up, but thats me)

i've been wrong before ( but rarely admit it ) this things going to get fixed! found a guy prepaired to take on a rear end cut and shut for the right price.... anyone have a shell i can cut in half?

I'm still here!!! first post in a bloody long time!! yes i can do the work on it, yes id go the reshell, i think that arse end has had it but ill call you to arange to bring it in, no point stressing to much till we've got it on the hoist and had a good look (i think i will have a 55 shell for sale soon, but rather fix yours if we can)

i use a hoist for the car and a forklift and sling for the motor and box, total overkill but SOOO easy that being said it took 2 days to replace the motor in a hiace this week (comes out under the van, had lpg)

don't GIVE UP EVERYONE!! ive got the car, motor and box all here ready, I'm knocking up the dummy mounts then off to the plasma cutter for the cutting then getting another contractor to cold fold them when their good enough for my car, i'll sell as many as i can

usefull practical experiance here, cut springs don't sit square on the strut top, if you have taken to much off and they are loose they can (and have) "bounced" off their perch, if the fact that your car has suddenly smashed to the ground isnt scary enough the cut end of the spring WILL go straight through the side wall of you tyre and we all know how thats going to end when a front tyre blows at speed that being said, i have cut springs in my '55 and regularly get it airborn (20 min long dirt driveway) but I'm an idiot with little to live for but the adrenalin rush (and I'm lifting it back up because to many other parts are breaking from the rough ride)

legaly a washer if you had to use it doesnt need to be welded on, it just has to be the right size and thickness, its the same as if you fit raceing harness, they just have to not pull through in an accident, nobody cares what keeps them there (unless the rules have changed since my last visit to the engineer)

something to add here, my car was playing up, seemed to be a carb problem, turned out to be a crack in the fuel line between the pump and carb, new line, running fine don't get a 55 airborn to often on lowered springs :)

if the bitsaremissing color is what you want why are you looking for a color thats like it? just go to the auto paint supply shop and buy a gallon (what the hell is that!!) of sunset pearl, JOB DONE (and if you want extra effect, do it in the clear coat)

there is 3 different startermotors for k series toyota, the bosch, nippondeso, and some other thing, they all interchange, anything from a ke10 to a ke70 auto or manual, but sometimes you need to remove the LH eng. mount to get them in to the hole in the bellhousing if you happen to be putting the odd one into the wrong car (then you just put the mount back on when your done)

if you don't have holes in the floor, drill some! use standard seat buckle bolts (like rolla boy said, the long stalks) a nut underneath the car, and a 2"x2" washer/plate under the floor, technicaly it requires eng. but its definatly legal
