  1. how come everyone who restores a minor does it light blue? :) nice work tho, those are getting thin on the ground. a guy i know around here has a overrated one of those. with a gze in it. with a turbo. that runs 12s. with stock suspension :P
  2. don't do what a friend of ours did and drill into your wheel well and wonder why there's a hissing sound coming from it :P one new spare tyre later, rod went back to installing his mdf bodykit (true story)
  3. :P
  4. omg how cute is that :P
  5. my engine had teething problems with a million billion oil leaks, but that may have been the builder (oops, that's me :P). and something else as well, i've forgotten now, but i had to have the head off within a week of getting it running. it's still got a crack in it too, but it's above a spark plug so i don't really care, it just leaks a bit of oil and i epoxy it up again. i should try some devcon
  6. the speedway is still going though, and you can hear that all the way across town. still, that's been here forever, and isn't something new to complain about. sucks to be us :P
  7. yeah, stew just has the standard dizzy at the moment. he's going to go to programmable ignition with megasquirt2.
  8. that is a pretty good price. my machining bill alone was $1300, but i needed more done to the head
  9. ahh, you made the classic working-on-cars-people mistake. when someone says "i'll get it back to you in 2 weeks" that really means 2 months. when someone says "oh, about 6 months" that actually means about 2 years. and trust me, when someone says "oh just leave it with me and drop in tomorrow arvo, no charge" you'll never see the job finished. sad but true who built your 5k out of interest?
  10. how coincidental, stewart just got his 4k efi going this weekend, using my old 7k-e manifold
  11. still, new good cars are nice to drive aren't they :P don't get disheartened and give up with your 5k, there's got to be an explanation for it, and the knowledge is out there to help you find it, or at least have a good crack so you can turn around and say "its not this this this this or this i've done everything i can, you fix it" one of the things i've learnt about cars (corollas anyway) is don't even bother trying to guess where a noise is coming from if you're not 100% certain, you'll just end up confusing yourself and might send yourself on a wild goosechase
  12. i don't think i've ever driven a manual car where you CAN'T pick reverse while you're moving. or at least try to grind grind grind - that's why they're in a box! :) my current 5 speed gets pretty grindy when you try do flatchanges at 8000rpm to 2nd. i usually have to back off and wait till the needle falls below 7000rpm, damn worn synchros :P i really should put some oil in that thing hey haha
  13. once we put gtx2 into a 4k that wasn't running right, it blew so much smoke we couldn't see the end of the street. we dropped it, put pennzoil in and there was barely a puff of blue coming out the exhaust pipe. oils ain't oils personally, i wouldn't do a burnout on gtx2, it's just so rubbish. i've heard gtx1 is nowhere near as bad and yes, i recommend pennzoil. the oil fields that it comes from are considered some of the purest in the world, and some of the best mechanics i know swear by it like i said above, pennzoil "older engine oil". it's a straight sae60 specially designed for engines that are half f@$ked and on the way out, like your valve stems are. pennzoil hd-50 would also be a good choice, it's a heavy duty sae50. hope this link works http://www.pennzoil.com.au/?method=product...226A2B9E6F59547
  14. couldn't find any info except to say they're the same bore and have the same number of rings and ring size as a 4k, and someone who thought 1G has a 20mm wrist pin as opposed to 18mm 4k. if you could find a catalog with pistons or rod bearings for a cressida or mark ii you could confirm and i agree with rob, learner drivers and turbos aren't a good mix besides which, if you want to run 12psi into a K motor, it's not going to be cheap. if i were you, i'd build a tough 5k, we'll help you out with the specifics of it. you won't beat anything really high powered, but if my little restricted 4k can keep up pretty well with commodores and wrxs, a nicely build 5k would garner a bit of respect, considering what you can do with a carbed 1.5L engine based on a 40 yearold design
  15. hahaha that was the best cartoon ever
  16. i replied to this on oldrollas. you're driving a ke30 because you can't afford to spend 40 grand on a 2004 rodeo like the rest of us. i'd love a 2.7L hilux
  17. because of complaints about noise and smoke. our council are softcocks. i could tell you lots of stories but the upshot of it is, we'll never get local motorsport here
  18. thats alright just get her to sell it before it reaches 150000 :)
  19. so take it out?
  20. how awesome is that. look at all the different types of cars banding together for a common cause. if only people around here would do that, we could get the council to give us back our burnour pad
  21. a panelbeater has this on his wall all my jobs are -) cheap -) good -) fast you may pick two of these items, nobody does all three
  22. cos castrol is a top oil to compare anything to, not :) if an oil changes viscosity with temperature (25w70 or whatever) it has synthetic components. if it's one viscosity (50w) it's mineral. straight weight oils are better for older worn engines
  23. yeah, it's usually the valve guides that go. couple of hundred bucks and a head gasket should fix you up, or heads are usually $80 (tops) from the wreckers, but 3k heads are getting hard to find. i would consider just swapping a good 4k wrecker motor in if you're going to spend the money, it'll work out about the same as getting your 3k head fixed, just a bit more work and how about you stay away from penrite because it's dog's balls. pennzoil "older engine oil" will last longer, as it's a straight weight mineral oil, and won't break down under bad conditions like a variable weight synthetic oil will of course you could always just put $6.99 kmart oil in it, and not throw good money at an already lost cause :)
  24. time is money
  25. and you have seen mark's drift ke70sr? http://www.toycrazy.net/mark/KE70.htm top guy, very resourceful, good finder of rare parts too
