  1. Came up good but quite a bit of "spider" type rust lines under some of the paint, hope I've dealt with them well enough.Time to keep on keeping on.
  2. So things are still progressing slowly, car has been totally stripped to bare metal, all by hand with paint stripper, sander, discs and time. Decided against chemical stripping, especially at $110 per door.Car is now in full epoxy etch primer, roof, passenger side doors, both guards, bonnet, boot lid and rear light panel are all straightened and reprimed so just have to sort out rear guards and drivers side doors and a little welding under the rear wheel arches then final prime, sand and top color. Other project still progressing, am currently making up a stepside pickup bed for the morris ute and working on straightening out the cab.

I'll give you 3 cartons for it!!!
  4. plug the leads into the sockets, red positive black negative, turn the dial to the section that has the V with a straight line above it,this means DC voltage, then in that section, choose the 20 location, then put the red lead on the positive side of the battery and black on the negative side, read what voltage the dial says, then start the car and repeat the process, read the dial, your answers will be as those above have said,if when car is running you have around 13/14 volts its your battery at fault,if it remains at the pre start voltage then your alty is at fault, this is basic, think its right, hope it helps.
  5. So,just a small update, its been ages. The KE is in the carport getting all its paint stripped of as time permits,am about half way, boot, rear quarters, roof, bonnet and drivers side internal door frames done and etch primed.Think I'm going to get the doors chemically dipped and cleaned so that doesnt leave me to much more to do.Thinking gun metal grey or Ford blueprint at present but could change. Mechanically will stay standard till Ive got it on the road and rego'd.Also going to dump the 13 inch Hotwires eventually,to much offset for what I want but they keep the car on wheels at present. Will put up more news when it happens. Pete.
  6. Hi all, As the above says,I have stripped the paint off the bonnet of my KE70 and there appears to be rust on the bare metal underneath, this rust? was not visible before I stripped the paint off. What is the suggested way to deal with this before I prime and topcoat as I certainly don't want it coming through the new paint. I thought maybe spray with rust killer, let it dry, wipe away the excess and prime but I am open to better ideas if any. Thanks all...
  7. I have this problem ocassionally and I have 2 solutions, number 1 old school is smear a little butter on the belts, usually stops the squeaking, number 2 is silicon chain lube from a bike shop, aerosol can, just spray it on but it does leave a white residue.
  8. thanks for the replies I'll go look for a long socket!
  9. I am trying to remove the vents on the rear pillar of a ke70,I have removed the inside plastics and found the very long thread with the retaining nut at the end. My question is what size is this nut as I assume I will have to get either a tube spanner or a long hollow socket to reach them.If anyone has any other ideas as to how to remove them I would appreciate the info.
  10. does it really need certification as its an ae71 which is a 1.6ltr and a 4age is a 1.6ltr,not trying to argue, just an honest question on my part.
  11. something to do with surge maybe as it only happens when the car is thrown around the track, not on the road or during static testing but actually why, I couldnt guess.
  12. yes its a 3 speed
  13. if you take the inner trim panel of the tailgate I think you will find some bolts that if you undo them that piece will come off..
  14. have no doubt you will work it out..
  15. couldn't you notch the wheel well a little to give a bit more pedal space,a gentle massage with some heat and a hammer,no cutting/welding needed?
  16. Good luck mate,on getting your licence and getting the car on the road asap!
  17. The last experience that I had, very similiar to this,my car was hit,not my fault, the person who hit me,their insurance company rated mine an economic write off. They paid me the value of the car BUT I was allowed to keep the car, keep the rego and it was not listed on the written off vehicles register(I'm still driving it today, still smashed,I kept the money, the cars a bomb anyway) so if the case is the same for you and you have a quote of $4000 and they give you $3500,then it will be $500 out of your pocket if you want it repaired. You really need to ask the assessor a few questions but I would probably buy myself a new one.
  18. did you ever get the first one running or are you still working on it?
  19. spoiler looks cool,a def. improvement on the other.
  20. have you undone the lock nut on the end of the tie rod?
  21. think you'll find that the silver car is parked.
  22. Let me say that this is only my personal opinion but I think you may attract some more of the wrong sort of attention with that lip.I think that it would be regarded as a dangerous protrusion because it is made of steel and not flexible like many others. That may only be Victoria though and although not word for word I think the regs say that no sharp or protruding edges are allowable on bodywork. On another note,I enjoy reading your posts, all the shit you go through and your determination to sort it all out,I'm not a fan of ghetto but I enjoy what you do!!
  23. I wouldnt know if its neccessarily a question of legalities as much as a question of safe and secure tow points determined by the manufacturer regards a position that places the minimum strain/stress on the overall construction of the body in a tow situation. Therefore I would guess that although relocating it would not be recommended by the manufacturer,as long as you are relocating to a similiar and just as secure position but just higher it might not be too much of a big deal.
  24. If your serious about RC car of the year then yes,you should really paint the engine bay seeing as you have it stripped out so far.I.ve never really had much trouble fitting moulded carpets if they are good quality, they still take a bit of work and usually there is always one bit somewhere that doesn't quite work right but the overall effect I think is worth it.I like the effort your putting in to this, keep up the great work, wish mine was moving as quickly, still playing with rust and body work....
  25. As I'm in Melbourne,if there is anything that I can do to help out let me know!Scum like this this deserve to be GOT!
