  1. Later Celicas had R-series engines and the W55, so it might work depending on model. W58 was the Supra box though so different pattern there
  2. I got ahead at the traffic lights once... Kinda hard to put cars before wife, considering she's owned 5 of the 6 cars we've had...
  3. Most likely removed as a (misguided) attempt to stop overheating.

  5. AE90 SE hatches had the 1.4L 6AFC. Series 1 SE sedans did too, but they changed to the 1.6 4AFE at the facelift. I think there was some other weird combinations of AE90/CS and AE92/SE that had different engines but AE9x model codes get very confusing very quickly (for some reason Toyota dediced that the AE9x would be the model that had about 5 different model codes depending on spec, ie AE90/92/93/94/96 etc) Is yours a sedan or hatch? Carby or EFI? Pictures tell a thousand words. There's also the chance that whatever panel the 1.6L badge is on has been replaced in an accident and the owner didn't care (or they wanted to fool people into thinking they had the "big block" :P)
  6. Sucks that the GT interior is so hard to get here...
  7. One thing to remember is that there are two different types of bigport cams - the later model ones are the same as smallport (EPC even calls up the same part number) and thus wouldn't make a difference, it's the earlier ones with longer duration and higher lift that make a difference (tend to be found in 3-rib/bluetop bigports but all 4AGEs these days are old enough that who-knows what cams have been swapped in at some stage)
  8. The books tend to be a lot more technical than the movies, plus some have some pretty big plot changes (Sum of All Fears is a good example) which makes them harder to compare. I'm re-reading Without Remorse at the moment which is by far my favourite (I'm a Kelly/Clark person, not Ryan), really wish it was made into a good movie but it never got off the ground. The later Ryan books get more and more political and his right-wing-conservatism-with-more-than-a-bit-of-paranoid-conspiracy-theory starts to shine through, which is why I tend to prefer the earlier works like HFRO and Cardinal of the Kremlin. His non-fiction books are quite good though, I go back and re-read Armoured Cav every now and then and learn something new every time. That way you get the tecnical stuff without the political.
  9. Al Palmer brought his silver one to Toyotafest a couple of years ago, it's not until you see one in real life or with a person standing next to it that you realise just how tiny they are.
  10. The only thing that a 2U and a 4U have in common is that they are both boxer engines with the "U" engine designation. Apart from that, it is like saying that a 3K is the predecessor of the current 2ZRFE. Toyota basically ignored their entire history of naming engines to call the modified FA20 a 4U
  11. More a case of flaming n00bs who (despite actually proposing things that could/would work) had no concept of the amount of time, money and effort required to see the project through.
  12. Pretty much. Back in the old days it used to be "BOV on a 4AGZE"...
  13. It's a running joke on Twincam about n00bs coming in around school holiday times and wanting to build turbo 4WD 4AFTE AE92s...
  14. FYI, AE95s (both wagon and sedan) run completely different rear-ends to their FWD brethren, so it's not a simple swap. Converting the 4AFE in an AE95 wagon (which were sold new in Aus, the sedans are all imports and very uncommon) to a 4AGE is a much simpler job, from memory the 20V silvertop is the easiest as it has cutouts in the block to get around the 4WD gearbox - there have been a couple of 4AGZE conversions too but they are harder since the supercharger and assorted components interferes with the centre diff
  15. Corrected - there's no such thing as an AE82 SX
  16. Netherlands, the Hella grille was a Euro option (for that rally-car look)
  17. Perfect condition never-fitted NOS ultra-rare optional Hella grille. Hella cool... Even comes with all the wiring, just need a new grille emblem. Had to cut part of the air-con fan shroud off though, guess Euro models don't have much need for air-con...
  18. Push it up the hill slightly and then clutch-start in reverse :P I've done that several times in my driveway :D
  19. Tried a jump- or clutch-start? You can have ~12V at the battery but if it can't supply any load then everything will just die in the arse and not even provide enough juice to light the dash up, let alone click the starter.
  20. Only 20-odd years after people started importing '90s JDM cars into Australia, the RTA has finally released a number plate which can fit into the rear bumper without being bent/cut/shaved, albeit American (12"x6") rather than Japanese (13"x6.5") size. Ordered these less than 2 weeks after they first became available, when Cara went to pick them up the lady at the RTA said they were only the second pair she had scene in all of Newcastle. I expect to see them get more common as people realise that they are available, but for now they get a lot of attention.
  21. Water inlet actually :P And like the rest of the *AFEs it incorporates the thermostat too, so hard to relocate.
  22. FYI, there was an internal-igniter electronic dizzy for the 4KEU as well, I had one on my KE55 matched to an Echlin GX-80R coil+resistor
  23. Interesting to hear Toyota confirm the prototype fact, always good to hear from the actual source (a piece of paper from the manufacturer always helps though). Spark plug makes sense too, that's the OEM plug for a 3SGTE turbo engine which sounds much more suitable.
