  1. what diff ratio is in it? something like a 3.9 should be good with the 7k. really you want it to be a couple of hundred revs into its powerband at cruise speed on the highway in 5th.
  2. no, only 4k-e and 4k-u have them. they are import engines. no such think in k engines. all flat tops apart from above mentioned engines and 5ks. the lower compression 4k-c have a larger combustion chamber for their lower compression ratio.
  3. i like this one....
  4. if it was about 10:1 on a 3k-b, the same head will be about 11:1 on a flat top pistoned 4k.
  5. jack it up and add a locker. don't stiffen to much, maybe extra long shackles?
  6. a 7k may not develop overly much HP wise, without spending a few $. it is the torque, and unstressed power delivery which is where it wins hands down. just build to maximise torque over as wide a power band as you can. peak HP isn't the be all and end all. it is the area under the curve that makes a quick engine.
  7. lol, that looks like fun. guess you could use any 4x4 full chassis with a similar wheelbase.
  8. unfortunately it is not that easy in america to just go buy another one. the te72 is pretty rare over there. they don't grow on trees like $300 ke70's do over here.

well the neater it looks the better. if it is bodgy, the roadworthy guys will be less inclined to want to pass your car as easily, and look at it more harshly. if everything is neat and tidy and as it should be you have more of a chance of breezing through.
  10. not good. sorry to hear.
  11. if you think it's bad now, wait till you hit 30.
  12. maybe you should build your next car to the CAMS rally regs. you do need a spare now.
  13. them too
  14. easy to tell who is barely out of their teens now. i won't go into japanese styling. front mount oil coolers, flower exhaust systems, stupidly big wings.....need i say more.... Rolln16 maybe play with the Bob Jane wheel selector
  15. minilites originally came out on classic 60's and 70's cars. they look wrong on anything later. i just can't get over how younger people mismatch styling from different eras these days. shit why not just get a set of 17" custom jelly beans or hotwires for your old skool '04 rolla (well it's not new, so it must be old skool). i was born in the early 70's so it just looks way wrong to me. don't be surprised if you get laughs from older people. funny styles these days. anything old is made new again.
  16. 17 kilos.... from what i understand the FJs are tougher (and cheaper) for the same power output. if you were that worried about the difference, you could always lose weight.
  17. think i worked it out. American Racing Libre wheels
  18. i used to work with an american guy and he always referred to mitsu's as "bitsashiti" how about the old FJ20DET's? tough as.
  19. you would need quite a bit more than that to buy a house in brisbane.
  20. the jap ke30 calipers are real bad for the slides sticking. a give away is the pads being worn unevenly on one side.

the wire wheels for an angle grinder work great. i need another, as i have worn out my last one, lasted ages. best thing for removing bog. make sure you use a dust mask and eye protection.
  22. watch out for the feds. you can get away with this sort of thing with pre ADR cars (72? and earlier).
  23. well do you want a nice smooth quiet ride with sloppy suspension? or a taughter more precise harder ride? most cars were designed for the average motorist to go get the groceries, or whatever (minimum NVH... noise, vibration, harshness). not for maximum handling performance. everything is a tradeoff. you take your pick. think about what you want. areas where you definitely should use urethane are for swaybar D bushes and link pins. also rear trailing arms if you want to put power through them. i have been bitten by the factory rubber bushes with an old EH i had many years ago. i put new factory rubber bushes through the leaf springs on the back. they only lasted 12 months. the problem i worked out was they were probably made when the car was, and had been sitting on the shelves in spare parts for 30 odd years. they had degraded, even though they were NOS (new old stock). think about when the genuine toyota bushes for your ke70 would have been made before you spend your money.
  24. at least make sure you hose it off. water deactivates it. stops the brake fluid eating your paint, and causing rust.
  25. i'm not sure. not something we really got in australia. i have seen them on datsun 510's on the web. maybe ask on an american 510 site?
