  1. Hi, Felix I know a after market cam is no different BUT you have to dial it in and I don't have a dial gauge to measure cam lift and I don't have the gauge you bolt to the crank to dial it in so I will be switching back to stock. As the guy who rebuilt the motor then I got never dialed it in so it runs mm crap..lol Cheers Cameron
  2. Hi, Well after a very help full chat to a top bloke about my 5K I have all the info needed now to install the cam. So I went and removed my stock 4K cam from my spare low KM 4K that was behind an auto with an elderly owner so it is in good nick so a pic is below: So Friday night and Saturday morning I will be installing this cam into the 4K so wish me luck. As I believe my current reground cam is umm 20 degrees out but I don't have time to fiddle so back to stock it goes. And if it was a cam for a N/A setup I can't use it anyway with the SC14 I'm going to install so pending on what grind it is when it comes out Ill prob sell it to if someone is looking :P Cheers Cameron
  3. Hi, Ok removed my rocker cover tonight and here are results. When the number one cylinder was at TDC on compression stroke number 7 valve (intake on cylinder 4) was not rocking about 10/20 degrees after TDC in 1 after the 0 on the timing marks on the crank case it started to rock. So went and compared this to my 4K motor out of a car when it had TDC 1 valve 7 was abotu 1/3 to 1/2 way rocked and down and it is a standard cam so mm this leads me to think 5K is defiantly OUT :) OK heres hard part for me I don't know for sure the cam grind specs and well I don't have a dial wheel tool :yak: So I have a K motor manual so can I time my cam to how the manual says where the crank is TDC cylinder 1 and put the chain on with the 2 silver links directly opposite? Cheers Cameron
  4. Hi, Thanks for that much needed info there. Ok I needed it as my 5K has been rebuilt and had the head shaved and a BIGGER cam put in it. Now the car runs JUST takes abotu 5min to start needs full choke to start also as it runs lean at idle and I have a full rebuilt carby on it and tuned from mechanic on Monday and no improvement there. I am also running standard manifolds on this motor so I figure there fine. Also when I bought motor ina car it ran in there so there not the fault. I also replaced the sump seal and the whole bottom end of the motor is GREAT new pistons and all so no problem there. BUT..... This motor has a new timing chain and a cam in it that is all that isn't stock. And when I got the motor with the dizzy on full retard it would fire at TDC 0 degrees with it in normal position it would spark as the piston was going DOWN not good. So if I went one tooth backwards or forwards on the motor again wouldn't run good or at all so this has lead me to believe the cam was installed wrong. As each tooth ona K motors cam gear is 10 degrees so if it was one tooth out this would be my cause of trouble so I belive it is this. Also no matter what rev my car is at it sounds like hundreds of mini key banngers are happening in my exhaust and this has also lead me to belive the exhaust valves are opening to early and letting fresh air and fuel out of the motor b4 it fires and it gets worse at speed so if the exhaust is opening to early that would mean cam was put in 1 to 2 teeth advance and needs retarding. Also are all K motor cams the same? As if tehy are i might remove my reground cam from this motor and temp run a standard cam in it for a while. Cheers Cameron
  5. Just trying to gather info as I believe my dizzy was always 6 degrees out when I was trying to get it to run. The cam gear ona 5K if it has 59 teeth on it well 360/59 = 6.1 degrees so if this is right the timing chain is out one tooth. So can anyone tell me how many teeth on both sprockets on the K motors? Cameron
  6. Hi, Well decided last weekend to do a engine swap on my car. I had a tired 4K in my KE30 and decided I wanted to use my rebuilt 5K so did the swap took 1 day and car ran well SHIT. Got around problem with a points dizzy so I could get enough advance on it (electric dizzy only gave 0 degrees TDC at most) and ran carby fuel level up. This all gave an idle of 1000RPM and for 100km trip used 15L of fuel and up high toped out at 5000RPM and top speed of 120km/h b4 car pretty much died. So got car today to a work shop and tested and this is what I got: Car at idle is to lean at a road running well high way motor speed car makes a shit load of un burnt fuel..:) But I can tell you now 5K carbies have all same shit as a 3K 4K etc carby. and I had the stock 5K one rebuilt and it is fine and clean and atomizing good etc. Manifold is original exhaust is original only thing done to this motor is a shaved head and a rebuild. Is it possible the cam was put back in wrong to cause all this problems? Cheers Cameron
  7. Hi, Got 5K into car today and running thanks to help of trev but it idles fast can't be timed long story there and is a bugger to run. So I am looking into swapping the 5K carbie throats and jets into the 3K one. So I was wondering will they fit and what are the 5K jet sizes and throat diameters. I read the FAQ only has 4 and 3K ones. Also will a 4K points dizzy go into a 5K block? Probably yes. Why u say my electric dizzy don't have time to muck with it so going old school for ease of use for a few months then swapping back to electric dizzy and before you ask keeping the electric dizzy not for sale..lol Cameron
  8. Pretty much I did what Trev said and Medicine Man But I found to align the rotor with the electric sensor with out removing the black cover you can JUST see the sensor sticking out and I was able to align it so about to start car in a few mins so fingers crossed it works. But I also got the feeler gauges out and cheeked the gap and it is perfect so all should be good. Cameron
  9. Hi, OK I have the manual for the 5K-E and the 7K-E BUT it has in there how to install a points dizzy only...go figure.. So done some research and the install from step one to 9 of 10 is the same till last one really. First you set the motor to TDC on compression stroke of the 1st cylinder. Then you get a screw driver then align the pump shaft with the dot punched into the block. Then you slide the dizzy in with the rotor pointing to the 3rd spark plug. It should then turn and face the center of the 2nd spark plug. After that step it says align the signal rotor tooth with the signal generator projection then tighten the dizzy bolt in that spot. Ok easy enough BUT where is the signal generator projection??? Below is a pic of a 5K-J dizzy I have and it marked and a pic of the exploded view of my dizzy adn you will notice top right corner the dizzy 2 black covers are marked dust covers adn come off? Below is the exploded view... So I am wondering with the signal generator can I remove the black plastic cover that has stamped "don't remove" to view the signal generator or will removing this cover break the dizzy? Cheers Cameron
  10. Hi, Just wanting to gather info on what some people prefer to do when run there motor in on a car after a rebuild. As what do you like to do and for how long and shit so post up. Cameron
  11. Trev HELL no....pff SC12 = To small..lol Ill keep the SC14 adn just rig up another outlet pipe..lol Cameron
  12. Hi, For my boosted rolla I am going to use a SC14. I bought it off a bloke who was going to use it on his KE55 but decide not to and it is like new and I got it CHEAP as so no loss. BUT I noticed he has put the SU carby mount on well what I believe is the boost out side of the turbo..So my main question is will a supercharger work in reverse? I have add a pic below of the SC14 to show how it has been done. But I will have to change this back to get it on my 5K Can see below the SC14 outlet doesnt even fit on...mm going to need a replacement one or a custom job. Closer view of the outlet: Also does anyone have a picture of the under side of their blowers on any K motor so I can jsut see how they positioned there mounts etc just for ideas? Cheers Cameron
  13. Hi, Thanks for all the help so far guys. Tonight after work I will pull a push rod and lifter out of the rebuilt 5K and see what is happening. But all I know is the motor is rebuilt has a shaved head new pistons and bearings and a general freshen up and all new valves and I was told ford falcon solid lifters in it. So I will get some photos and info to you tonight about what is really in it. But 3K rocker gear uses aluminum posts and 4K uses steel so better to use 4K but also from looking my 3K its rockers were made lighter/thiner than the 4K ones so in turn would be weaker. So madrolla is there a reason behind using 3K gear? Also I will be removing my oil eating 4K out of the car to do swap so Ill strip it down and also get info on its rocker gear and height for you all. As when the SC14 goes on this motor if this 5K doesnt have solid lifters all ready I will do the swap so ill let you know how I go. Cheers Cameron
  14. Hi, Ok I know 4K had 2 types of rocker posts long and short. If I put 4K gear on will I have to source the long or short ones or source the ones the same height as the standard 5K ones? Cheers Cameron
  15. Hi, The 5K I am about to put in my KE30 that I just bought has had a solid lifter conversion allready done to it (also a full clean up/rebuild). I was told it has solid lifters by guy I bought it off of who had it rebuilt BUT on the head it still retains its original rockers with no adjuster BAD if it has solid lifters This motor is going in my car this Saturday I need it to work I drive 500KM + a week so don't want to kill the 5k on first run due to running 0 to little tappet clearance. So main question is is it possible to tell what lifters the motor has with out relying on the rockers? Can I tell from say looking down the head or removing the sump? Also some one who has done this switch before Xany, superjamie, med man or irokin?? maybe... will WILL 4K rocker gear be a straight bolt on swap? I will be pulling a 4K out of the car to do swap so I will have known working rocker gear to swap but it must be direct as I do need this car so don't want to get stuck. Also what are the torque settings for the posts that bolt the rocker shaft to the head or do they get torqued down? Cheers Cameron
  16. This car isn't one of those cars the police put in places now and then to remind you of what can happen in a crash is it? As from photos no motor so prob a car from wrecker stripped so no parts of major use can be stolen. Also was there any damage to near by trees glass on road? But still even if it was acop set up hell of a hit took that car out once before..lol And yes should of grabbed the dash pad, wheels for burn out rims and other parts..lol fill the boot of ur car..lol Cameron
  17. Hi, what time does this event usually finish? Just need to know for work purposes. Also I should have the 5K in but minus super charger so  I might get a slow time fo a bench mark so ill be racing fingers crossed ;) Cameron
  18. mmm check out the positive dish on those wheels..lol
  19. MMM twin carb manifold I want ;) With the K carby I believe there all the same as I am running a 3k cary on a a4K no problems and computer at a mechanics shops say's it all find so I will see how I go. Well I can make the pollution system look gone BUT takes time 4 bolts 3K carby on adn off we go. Car will be a daily driver BUT the SC isn't going on straight away after it is on it will still be a daily driver but so if you don't mind ?? As before the SC14 goes on I need some cheap extractors an electric fuel pump and a thermo fan so if anone has those parts going cheap.?? 5K I have a fair amount of info here just stuff similar to FAQ but here is some info that might help people: electric dizzy should have 2 wires coming from it one for +ve side of coil usually black with red stripe and the other one to the -ve side of coil and its just plain black. Also I was told the dual port vacuum wasnt advance or retard but one was like 12 deg and the other was like 18 deg advance the one going straight in is 12 deg and the vertical entrance one is 18. Cheers Cameron
  20. I;m with you kickin 5K as the standard will be ditched soon with a supercharger and SU replacement..LOL So down with Asian..lol Also any info you can share with us on 5K motors as like to build up bit of a info thing on them here any info on 5K's is good info. Cameron
  21. I should be there des. 5K might also be in the KE30 and it has a shaved head so mm might have to give it a spin down the 400..lol if only the SC14 could be on by then..lol then ill challenge the noobler..lol Cameron
  22. looking in bags is wrong. Only time des gets to see in bags is when he happens to hit a fence with them on a fork lift and bags and condoms fly everywhere..LOL ;) Cam
  23. Taz do you mean the mechanical weights inside the dizzy? As If you did it is still hand to know if I keep the vac line on the most it will advance there is 18 degrees or 12 so.. Cameron
  24. Hi, Taz you are right about electronic dizzy's The outer chamber if connected there will only pull 12 degrees advance. But if I connect the hose up to the second chamber closest to the dizzy it will pull 18 degrees. So with it in normal position and a SC on the car it should be fine as didn't you only run 20 degrees with a zip tie when you ran the CT12? Cheers Cameron
  25. Also forgot to add the 5K carby is working but not right needs a clean tune and has all the pollution crap on it so K one doesn't so I will just use it and swap the jets later. Cameron
