Yeah here is my before and after on the banjo fitting i used. you can see the exhaust in the first photo. Mine actually wasn't that close really, but my mate who had some sort of aftermarket extractors was basically touching the clutch line without the banjo. [/URL]

Yeah even NTN is manufactured in china. The only hope is that they use Japanese quality assurance in their china factories...

What is your wheel bearing installation method if you don't mind me asking? Wheel bearings should last for years and years. What brand was the wheel bearing that failed on you? I refuse to use any bearing that is not SKF or NTK or any of the Japanese brands. Last few bearings I have bought (not wheel bearings, but other automotive bearings) I have just taken the old bearing to an industrial bearing shop (CBC etc) and they have matched it up for me in a decent brand.

Got any photos of your clutch slave line and how close it is to your exhaust? I put a banjo fitting on my clutch slave in my old 4age ke70. This kept the line away from the exhaust nicely.

Well first drive to mt nebo today. No pics I'm afraid. Didnt even stop. Had a blast though. Realised i hadnt been to mt nebo since about mid 2014, before canada. Car went great, though I'm not too impressed with the brakes. Current brakes are hpx qfm pads, brakes direct high temp fluid and new dba rotors. The brakes take a stop or two to get bighty, but it only takes 3 or 4 stops to start to get spongy...... Mate who came with me was surprised at how good the car went, so maybe i was giving the brakes more of a beating than i thought....

I'm fairly sure my beema has zero fuel at zero throttle above a certain rpm (maybe 2500?). Marked change in exhaust noise, sounds like you turn off the ignition, and my economy meter goes to zero. Is there any reason why you don't have zero fuel at zero throttle? Also it seems the forum doesnt like apostrophees.

Mt nebo? I had to work out at wivenhoe dam yesty and took the beema out. I was considering going home via mt nebo but i thought the roads might be full of fallen leaves and trees....

Well that escalated quickly. any more details? looks fun.

Yah i have heard good things about imparts. Mostly i've gotten by with genuine BMW or run auto parts down south. I'm starting to not trust my oem temp guage now that i have the VDO. the OEM gauge is all over the shop, but the VDO one is rock solid at 84 all the time. I just need to make the VDO gauge a bit more permanent...Ziptied to the top of the steering column is not ideal.

Another month goes by...Nothing too exciting to report. Got rid of my mighty reliable hyundai so the e30 has been my daily drive for a month, no major issues. I noticed my temp guage was reading a bit lower than usual, and it started to jump around a bit. so i temporarily fitted a VDO temp gauge and it was only reading about 65deg C. Threw in a new thermostat (genuine bmw was cheaper than everywhere else) on the weekend and it sits back where it should be and reads around 84deg on the VDO gauge. Never had a thermostat pack up on me before, but luckily it was over flowing and not underflowing. Annnnndd tonight my battery died, dropped a few cells it seems. sits on 12.5V but when you hit the starter to drops to ~4v....Dad picking me up a new one tomorrow, got the car packed on the hill so i can jump start it in the morning. Pissing down rain here today and its very evident i need new tyres. Still undecided what to do wheel wise. They are 14" and choices are limited for 14". But i don't know if i can be stuffed buying new wheels. so i might just buy the best i can buy in 14".

Oke20 - that is a name i havent heard for a loooonnng time.

My ol' beema does considerably better on the highway than around town. Like 8L/100 on the hightway, and 12L/100 around town. Will be interesting to see how your fuel economy goes over time as an average.

Excellent fuel economy! and nice photos:)

Congratulations mate :) Car looks great.

Anyone Have A Vacuum Gauge In Their Dash?
ke70dave replied to rebuilder86's topic in General Mechanical
You gotta remember that atmospheric is 101.3kpa absolute pressure approx. Little red saying he is getting 50kpa absolute prrssure at idle is less than atmospheric prrssure of 101.3kpa. Now if you start talking gauge pressure that assumes atmoapheric pressure is zero. So another way of writing 50kpa absolute pressure is -51.3 kpa gauge pressure. It all depends where you assume the zero pressure value is. -

For 5 dollars he could get 2 and a half gauges! I'm confused at the point of this thread. -
i though 86 calipers were 2022? googling 2204 caliper brings up toyota tercel, though isnt a tercel 4wd? so those struts can't be tercel.

If you can get a RWD transmission and a clutch to bolt up to the proposed yaris engine then the rest of the conversion is just the same as any other custom conversion. Engine mounts, tailshaft, cooling, fuel system and wiring. custom bell housing and clutches design are not beyond the scope of a home gamer with some CAD software, but machining and welding costs might be prohibitive. Although i'm sure you like the idea of putting a toyota engine in, for me its hard to go past an MX5 engine and gearbox as a 4age alternative. RWD, VVTI and ready to go in. Just wait until a few of the new 1.5L turbo mx5s get written off and grab the engine from that!
-
hah! It's always the simple things that catch you out.
-
Is your mate interested in another paid job similar to yours?
-
ok yeah that looks great, almost there! Also did you do the actual spraying? or did you pay someone to spay it?
-
Depends on what offset the wheels are now. how do they sit with the (persumably) standard springs you have now? 50mm drop isnt that much if you have standard height at the moment. Get a mate to push down the front of the car about 50mm and see how it looks ;)
