  2. Keep it civil, thrillseekers.
  3. Does that mean Toyota got it back to front with VVTi ??
  4. ^^^^^^ That's a good run in the big scheme of things. Goes to prove with a regularly maintained car, you'll only ever replace the consumables.
  5. Another quality thread bought to you by Rollaclub. :)
  6. Damn you're tool. In the big scheme of things, the difference will be minimal. Learn to drive it better. :)
  7. Led lenser. 100 and something lumens on bright, and a dim function (like it's owner :)) for when you don't want to burn holes in things. As used and recommended by pretty much every aircraft mechanic I know.
  8. Nice. My 25 looked something like that when I picked it up. 19 years later it's still in my garage (a little different from then.....). Good to see another saved.
  9. Don't forget to look at the previous articles on it as well. http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2010/04/...ress-continues/
  10. Be very careful with the launch with a stock diff. Have you ever walked on a drag strip, particularly the start? It's that sticky with traction compound, your feet stick to the ground. Side step the clutch and the weakest link will let go.
  11. I wont have my 25 running, but I'll have my excel there. :D
  12. I wondered that myself for a second. http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?showtopic=44146
  13. Trev, I've had the dubious honour of sitting next to a large cross section of the Australian population. The last thing the vast majority (particularly the bling brigade) need is more power. Agreed intakes and exhaust don't flow perhaps as well as they should, but if you have, for example, and MPS3 with 190kW punching through the front wheels, more grunt will do.... well not a lot. XR5 is the same, ditto GTi. Seriously, I cannot emphasise have ordinary most peoples driving ability is. I've had guys moan because we wouldn't allow them to turn the stability control off. I tell them that I don't have the talent to drive an MPS3 hard with the DSC off, therefore I'm pretty sure you don't. The only person I've seen do it competently is a bloke called Dick who runs a race team out of Yatala somewhere. Then I take great delight in watching the instructors blow them off in a diesel Mazda 3 during the track session. By all means tinker with toys (of which you can never have too many), but I struggle to see a legit reason to mod a 45K car off the shelf.
  14. Says the man rallying a pizza delivery car. ;)
  15. We don't use duct tape, we use that silver foil stuff. Hangs on better. However, we only use it when we run out of spit, chicken wire and hope. ;)
  16. I buy my road cars new. That's just what I do, because I can. I've had my Touareg for six months now, and I wouldn't know what's under the plastics covers under the bonnet. Nor do I care. Nor do I want to know. I don't mod them, play with them or change any spec on them. In return they give me 3-4 years of trouble free motoring, then I get the next one. That's what you do with modern cars. Now, stick to old school Corolla or drive around in quiet leather luxury with a 180kW turbo diesel that will smoke most things on the road. Hard decision that one. It's funny, one or two career changes ago I ran Performace drive days on behalf of Mazda. Most of the cars appeared in the same spec as they left the showroom floor. Some, mainly the MPS', had exhausts, sneezy valves and bling. One of my personal favourites was the guy in NSW who repainted his brand new MPS bright orange, because he's Dutch. Guess which one's gave us the most headaches? Modern car manufacturers don't spend millions of dollars in development just so that some backward hat wearing numpty can do some fully sick mods because they know better. Case in point, Mr XR5 above. XR5's aren't a bad bit of kit. I'd almost own one. But at the end of the day, if you're not happy with the performance and have to mod it to be fully sickerer than before, maybe it shouldn't be the car for you.
  17. These big enough?
  18. I have a tame panel beater that does all my gear, however my I humbly suggest that you buy the best compressor you can afford (even if you can't afford it....) then you'll have all the grunt you need, and is less likely to break down. In thirty years time when you spray a car with the same compressor you'll think "gee I'm glad I bought that one."
  19. Fixed. :D
  20. Get onto something like import monster, they bid on japanese yahoo for you and them send in to you. Thats how I got mine. They're not as hard to come by as you think, as TE20 and TE25's came out with them as well. The TA22 crossmember is good for the mounts and the right angles, but thats about it. The xmember itself is not really compatable with a 20. I had an ex-hillclimb car with a modded ta22 xmember, and it was that unattractive, I decidd to go with something else. There should be mounting holes for a t series box about 100mm aft of where your existing xmember bolts to. They should already have the captive nuts there. Run a tap through them to get 40 odd years of accumulated crap out of the threads, and you're good to go. Tailshaft, I had a custom one made. It's a decent size thingy, as I don't like things breaking.
  21. Forget about doing an 18 rg conversion. I got a te25 crossmember from Japan for mine. I could just as easily modded the mounts, but whats the point with the real thing available. Generally you will need to convert your clutch system to a hydraulic. Once again I got a TE27 pedal assy from Japan, but be warned, they don't bolt in. A bit of fabrication required. You'll need to change the sway bar, as the standard 20 item goes where the sump on a 2tg is. Change your brakes. You'll need something bigger, particularly if it's going to be engineered. Uprate the diff. Anyone that says you don't have to is having a lend of themselves, or enjoys the experience of changing them on a regular basis. Mine has a TA22 diff with a TRD slippery and 4.77 gears. Not an easy conversion, but not super hard if you have some skill. http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?showtopic=7663 The only reason I haven't finished it is lack of time and too many other toys.
  22. There's one on the back of the 86. ^^^^^^^
  23. That's soooo cool trev. More expence:
  24. :edit: damn, too slow. :D
