  1. Throw the lowering blocks away. They're about as useful as a scuba tank made from cheese. Save your pennies and get them reset properly. You'll thank yourself for it. I've flipped leaves, and although they served the purpose, it's not an ideal solution. Do it properly the first time. Remember that just because it's low and stiff, doesn't mean it will handle. Ride height is not necessarily a prerequisite for decent handling. Of course lower C of G helps, but the overall set-up is more important. I've had a 55 Hardtop with celica struts and Bilstein inserts, 170lb springs (rally car) and it was good. My 27 with 225 pound springs was good, but would be too hard for day to day. Pobably 200 lb would be a happy medium. Brakes should be fine for you. They weren't for me. I set them on fire on occasions. :) I've got two sets of rear springs for each car. Forest height, and bitumen height. All sets have been professionally reset, and IMHO worth every cent. I can put you onto my guy in Nth Brisbane if you like. He does all my work, and has done jobs for others in here.
  2. Dad and I agree. :)
  3. I can supply those as well. :) The number of licences issued are almost a 50/50 split. With the year twelve course I run, that would be pretty much on the money, too. Most females get their licences within a near period of when they can. Yes some wait later, but I would call that a minority. Before anybody asks, km's travelled male/ female is 60/40 split..
  4. You are spot on the money, Lexxi. It's also a reason why female fatalities are lower. ie: nothing to prove, non-experimental (generally). It is, to an extent, ego and testosterone driven in males. I tell the girls in the classes I do that if you ever want to break up with a boy, or you just want to destroy their ego, say three words: "You can't drive." :) In general the skill level of girls is actually quite high. They just lack confidence mostly.
  5. If you check austats, you will find that in the last 10 years, for driver only fatalities (ie: not counting passengers) 18 year old males are 3 times more likely to be killed on the roads than a male in their forties. Yes, three times as many 18 yo's are dead than 40 yo's in that period. It's only about twice as likely if you're female. The figures are there, and the figures don't lie. The older you get, the less likely you are to die in a road accident. Three big killers: Fatigue, Inexperience, inattention. The middle one is the big killer in young people. That is why they are targeted. I spend a portion of my life doing driver training with young people, I know the figures, I know the skill levels, and I know what they don't know. I'm sorry, it's a sad fact, but it's true.
  6. My understanding is that if it is currently rego'd on it it's fair game wherever it's sitting.
  7. In that case you're wasting your time. 12 kg of body deadener and probably 40 kg of interior are going begging. Unless you start looking at lexan windows, hole sawing/ cutting, fibreglass guards, (most of which are not legal mods.....) you're going to pull bugger all out of it.
  8. Wrong answer. Believe me when I tell you that you need a budget. Believe me when I tell you that you won't have as much money as you think, nor time to do it in. You need to find a car that handles and is underpowered and learn to drive. Day to day, and on the track and on any and all courses you can do. You'll be a far better driver than if you go the "I need more Horsepower" route. In your first twelve months of driving, horsepower should be at the end of your list of things to do. Oh, and don't bugger up a good 10 by putting a 4ag in it. They're getting hard to come by. and so are parts, and suspension takes a fair bit to sort.
  9. The first question that must be answered is this: How much money do you have?
  10. I've found recently that it's as buggy as hell. It's really starting to get up my nose.
  11. ^^^^ I used to have two four door Belletts. One still had plastic on the doors.....
