I had my Corolla insured with Shannons from when I was about 21 y/old. Maybe their policy has changed since then? Have you tried calling them back at different times to see if you get onto a different operator that is more obliging? Even dropping into one of their offices may be more successful. Worst case could be that you get the car insured through shannons, but in your parents name. Surely they wouldnt be that strict as to not let 18 y/olds be nominated drivers. Just cars either didnt want my business or the operator was having a bad day when he quoted me a $1500 full comp premium for my (at the time) $1600 market value Corolla. Shannons now insures it for $4000 with a $400 premium. You probably already know, but Shannons only offer Full Comp or Third Party only. Fire and Theft are not on offer. Maybe has something to do with the higher risk of the insured cars being stolen due to their modified and valuable nature. Have you tried this company? I have never dealt with them myself. Yes that is what he was talking about :) I never modded my aisan carb so a pic of my twins wont be of much use. Just find the return spring and remove it if you can. Then replace it with something that will offer less resistance, whilst still keeping the butterflies closed. You may have to make some braket or the likes, to attach the spring to. Alternatively, take the cable off and hang it up. Spray some wd40 down inside the casing. Maybe its just a case of too much friction within the cables casing. I can't remember whether corollas have another return spring on the pedal itself. I don't think they do. You may find that replacing the rotary style wrap around spring that will be on the shaft, with a standard coil spring with hooks on each end will be all you need.

Tried removing or replacing the springs that hold tension on the cable? I experimented with different springs on my twin setup to get the right feel. Ended up with an off the shelf 'Redline' branded spring from hardimans that I purchased with my linkages.

I have all the glass out of my KE30 2 Door at the moment, and took the opportunity to have it tinted a few weeks back.. The best price i got was $230 darkest legal. That was at Tint-a-car in Moorabbin. I should add, that i got a reduced rate because the Moorabbin line was busy, so I got diverted to the Head Office. Normally $265....then she said ummmm $240.....No $230. Sold! If you want the number for head office and the woman i spoke to, let me know and i'll try and dig it up. 2 years ago I had my Pulsar hatch done at Premier Tint in Cheltenham Rd, Dandenong. $250 Darkest Legal Very happy with both companies workmanship.

I know my KE30 has a threaded rod with a plate or something on the end (i forget what suspension component its actually fixed to) that acts as a stopper for when the wheel is at full lock. Maybe you could wind that out to lessen the distance from lock to lock.

I'm sure that i read somewhere that LED indicators don't work in early Corolla's. Something about the LED's not drawing enough current for the indicator blinker/box assembly to work properly. Just found it - Have a read CLICK

Interstate Transport - What Courier To Use

Just an Update for those in the same boat as me. The only company out of the ones mentioned previously that would entertain me, even though I don't have an account with them was "TasFreight". I called the Melbourne office, who then asked me to call the Tassy office. The bloke there was a bit perplexed why they directed me to him, but he was actaully quite obliging and very helpful. The prices were quoted on a 1200mm x 1200mm x 600mm High Pallet, and 100kgs in weight. It is forked onto their truck upon pickup and forked off on delivery. QLD 4159 to Melbourne 3205 - $187 +GST NSW 2209 to Melbourne 3205 - $114 +GST Very reasonable prices in my opinion. -
I have a shortened R31 LSD in my KE30 2 door. If you want to do it properly, you have to get it cut and the flange re-welded on. Weld on the new leaf spring mounts. Then get it straightened and heat treated. Can be a costly experience, but thats what you pay for a proper job. I run 15"x7" Globes with +20 or +3 offset (can't remember which is on the front and rear). Anyway, they just sneak inside the gaurds. I also purchased a brand new 4.11:1 ratio and had the lsd rebuilt, so its tight as a drum. On a side note, I found that Commodore pads don't fit in these callipers whereas the brake place told me they would and actually sold me a set of EBC Green Stuff pads..... Maybe other brands vary in thickness and thus will sneak in, but the ebc ones are too thick.

The car is a bare rolling shell with absolutely no interior in it. Its currently sitting at the fabricators and i estimate will be there for about another month becuase they are a bunch of lazy bastards!!

Interstate Transport - What Courier To Use

The problem that i found was that the main couriers wont talk to me unless i have an account with them. I went home sick thursday arvo and had today off, needless to say rooting around on the phone wasnt a high priority. Taz, I'll definately give your recommendations a call on Monday as they seem to be pretty fair prices. As for direct freight express, I totally missed their number on their front page and went straight to contact us. When i was only met with a form that required an account number, I gave up. -

Interstate Transport - What Courier To Use

Are we talking the regular Aus Post? Last time I checked, they didn't do parcels over 1m Long etc. I would have thought engines would be a definate no go. Anyway, I'll give them a call and see what happens. -
I need to get an engine sent from QLD to Melbourne. Possibly another one from NSW to Melbourne. I got my boss to try and organise one for me, but he came up with nothing. Toll werent interested because we don't have an account with them. Star Track claim our account is suspended (hanst been used frequent enough). Still waiting to hear from furniture removalists that we use for transporting joinery. Not sure on Couriers Please whether they do larger interstate items. The other couriers that we use are just smaller businesses that transport small items within Melbourne. So who has sent an engine interstate and who did you use? Its got to the point where i don't mind paying a bit extra as long as it just happens! The engine will be on a Pallet and hoisted onto the truck. I can fork it off at my end, so theres no dramas there. I'm even open to offers if you have a mate/friend of the family that does this line of work and wants some cash on the side. The engine in QLD is located at Birkdale. The engine in NSW is located at Kingsgrove. I'm open to offers of people picking up the motor (i'll pay for your time) and organising freight for me if you have contacts in a transport company.

This engine may not happen. Just talked to another bloke in Brisbane that has a 12A BP for a very reasonable price. Just have to sort out a courier..
-
Thanks bud - Auction ends in 4 days, so watch this space. Its at $500 with no bids, but like most rotaries I expect it will get quite a few last minute bids.

I'm looking at buying a Rotary engine off ebay from Varsity Lakes, QLD. The seller doesnt mind putting it on a Courier truck, but can't supply a pallet and intends to hand lift it on.....not impossible, but i don't like his chances of the courier helping him or even accepting the engine without it being on a pallet. So is anyone in the area keen to pick it up for me and strap it to a pallet. I will organise a courier to pick it up from you and pay for your time. Alternatively you could organise a courier in your own time and i could fix you up before hand. I'm not fussed. It also comes with a gearbox which you can keep if you have a use for it. Assuming its only an early series box. Its not a definate yet, because it all depends on how much the engine sells for.... I guess i just want to know if anyone is keen to do it for some pocket money?

I've been to the aquarium. Good to go once and check it out. Maybe head up to the Eureka Tower observation deck or even the Rialto observation deck (if its still open...havent heard much about it lately), If you want to do the touristy thing. I'd be taking a Taxi to your function though. I avoid public transport like the plague though.

Its a bit of a side issue. But apparently Forklift licenses are soon to be a thing of the past. I just got mine and its classed as a "Certificate to perform high risk work" or something like that. Apparently if you already have an existing forklift license you can go to the post office and fill out a certain form, and pay a fee to get the new style card. Might be worthwhile looking into it if you havent already done so.

I've got someone else on the case at the moment. Just waiting to hear back on a price. If that falls through i'll get in touch with ossie.

You do realise that its common practice to patch plasterboard like that..... Patch it - Tape it - Stop it out - Sand it off Re-sheeting the ceiling would mean needing to affix new cornice. Is the place heritage listed? Meaning certain features have to be kept or the council will come down on you like a tonne of bricks. Sure it mainly refers to exterior features....but its not exclusive of internals as well. What work are you doing on the places? Edit* Judging by the progress pics, I guess your the Plasterer.

I drive 50mins to work, so its not the travel i am worried about. I paid $140 to have my car towed from Springvale to Somerville. I can only imagine what they would charge to have it towed to Ballarat. Any saving I make on the spray job, would be eaten up by the tow truck fee there and back. Work is flat out at the moment, and Saturday work is now a regular thing for me.......so towing it myself is going to be more trouble than its worth. Thanks for offer all the same. I called Johno's recommendation today, only to be meet with a stern bloke who asked if i could call him back because he was busy? silverra23's bloke was more than happy to look at it. Estimated about $1500 incl paint. I'll make a few more calls, but $1500 sounds fair assuming its a decent quality paint.

Thanks mate, I'll give him a buzz as well as another one that was PM'd to me and i'll see if either entertain me. Colin - Not really looking forward to transporting the car that far.
