  1. Whats your wiring rated to? I had the alternator on my K engine rebuilt when i had the 5K in it. Apparently KE30 looms are only rated to 80amps when new. Factoring in the age of the wires and connections, the auto elec only wanted to rebuild the alternator 70-75apms max. Nathan called me back today and he is locked in to wire up my car on Friday. Hopefully my immobiliser arrives before then so he can wire that up too.
  2. Front coilovers are possible. Have a search and you'll find info. I don't think anyone would bother converting to rear coilovers. Theres a heap of race cars on here that still run leaves.
  3. I have made the purchase, as well as just picking up some CL motors which i have in my hot little hands already. I've got an auto elec coming on friday to sort out my ignition wiring, so he is keen to wire up the immobiliser as well. Thanks Guys.
  4. So you would recommend it? Are you happy with it, or is it one of those alarms that go off if a car door is slammed 50m away?
  5. Just after some opinions on this Immobiliser in the link. EBAY The specs seem to have all the main features I would need, except for the central locking motors. I assume any central locking motors could be used to suit, however mongoose ones may be easier to wire up? Theres plenty of motors on ebay that come as a central locking kit. Would it be just as easy to buy both the alarm in the link and a central locking kit. I could use those motors and just throw away the rest of the central locking kit as the immobiliser would already be running them? Is there anything else missing from the immobiliser kit that i should be wary of? I basically want and alarm, immobiliser and central locking system for my KE30 2 Door. Its a NA engine if it makes a difference for wiring it into EFI. I have to get an auto elec out soon to look over my wiring and fix up a few issues, so I figure it would be a great time to get an alarm installed. I'm open to other recommendations of better immobilisers if you have a tried and proven model. I only chose this model because its a brand I have heard decent things about (obviously not the best on the market, but far from bad), and it complies with Australian Standards, so its acceptable to Insurance companies. Its features also satisfy my needs.
  6. Thanks guys. I knucked down with both the Corolla and RX7 wiring diagrams and have got most of the wiring done (hopefully its right). The 3 wires on the Corolla loom into the two pins on the rx7 alternator has got me stumped though. 3 into 2...... I'll suss out the auto elecs on Monday (whats the bet they are all on holidays like the rest of us) and have one of them check over my work and fix whatever needs to be fixed.
  7. I'm looking for suggestions on "Mobile" Auto Electricians that you may have used and found to be very good. I'm wiring up the Rotary now and I HATE auto electrics. Preferably S.E Melbourne, but name your contacts and i'll suss them out. Must do Mobile, on site work.
  8. Remove the trims. Apply slight outward pressure to the window from the inside, and slowly prise the rubber seal off from the inside. Work your way around the window and don't try to get greedy and lever to much off. Once you get the top out you can lift it upwards and slide it out. I did my KE30's one a few months back with no drama's. I know the windscreen blokes use rope on some of them somehow. Never really watched closely but it made it look simple.
  9. This extract is straight from the SA Transport website: WHEELS AND TYRES All wheels and tyres fitted must comply with the Road Traffic (Miscellaneous) Regulations 1999. The main points to note are:- (a) The wheel track must not be increased by more than 26mm beyond the maximum specified by the vehicle manufacturer. Maximum allowable tracks for individual vehicle models can be obtained from Transport SA. The wheel track is the distance measured across the vehicle from the centre-line of one tyre to the centre-line of the other tyre on the same axle. (f) Spacers are not permitted between the hub and wheel (unless originally fitted by the manufacturer) (h) Wheels that have been widened by inserting a spacer band are not permitted. SA Transport I'd say thats pretty definative evidence that spacers of any type are Illegal in SA. I know that spacers of any type are illegal in VIC as well. NSW is the same i believe. QLD Transport clearly states that "The fitting of spacers or adaptors between wheels and hubs, additional to those provided by the vehicle manufacturer, is not permitted"
  10. Have you disconnected the accelerator cable and made sure that its the carby that is the problem, and not the cable jamming within the casing. Try loosening off the nut that holds the 'cable wheel' on and then hit it with more wd40. Maybe a stiffer return spring is needed?
  11. I saw the monetary value in the R31 Interceptor/Chaser/Pursuit rims and decided to exploit it about 12 months ago. I searched the local wreckers whenver i was there and eventually got 2 sets (8 rims). Each wheel set me back $20 ($80 set) and I sold each set on ebay for $350 ($350 x 2 = Profit). I have one in my backyard....awaiting 3 of its friends. They are extremely rare, and even more sought after. Goodluck with the hunt if you decide to go that path.
  12. I never actually purchased anything off phil because he is extremely overpriced. You could try 'Scotts Old Auto Rubber', as i got a heap of seals and bailey channel felts from him. All good quality. I also purchased a a full rubber kit from the Taiwanese blokes on ebay. Seem like a good quality product. Some of the rubbers were in 'Genuine Toyota' plastic packages.
  13. I've got an R31 Diff in my KE30 2 Door. Had it shortended with brand new 4.11 gears installed which can still be purchased obviously. I can tell you that with 15" x 7" 20P wheels and 195/50's, I had to lip the rear gaurds so the tyres didnt scrub. I believe the Skylines have 28 spline axles, whereas the Pintara's or Bluebirds have 25 Splines and not LSD. I havent actually driven the car, but its a prick to push because its like pushing a car with a locked diff.
  14. I have found Tasfreight to be very helpful and reasonable. 1200x1200 x 100kg Pallet with an engine block on it from Sydney to Melbourne = $150 Same but Brisbane to Melbourne $180 Those prices are for picking up and dropping off at private addresses, not just depot to depot.
  15. Saw this car on the channel 10 coverage of the ARC. Its also the car that was getting some suspension work at Mammi Motors in Somerville that delayed the work getting done on my Rotary Corolla. Regardless of that, he gets my vote because he has talent. :P
  16. I was under that impression too. However, during my meeting with my engineer he informed me that the maximum was strictly a 1" wider rim. There was also regulations on the extent that the front and rear track are increased. I am still using the KE30 LCA's, so thats a good enough argument to say it hasnt been affected. The R31 rims fit fine on the rear, and actually sit quite far into the gaurds, so it makes it 'appear' as though the R31 diff hasnt affected it too much.
  17. I will grab a corona rim and try it out. The issue i have is offset related i think. The lower spring support would have to be moved atleast 60mm upwards to clear the tyre. The R31 rims fits fine, but but its only 15mm from the strut and maybe 40mm between it and the lower spring support. So once a 195/15 tyre goes on, it will most definately scrub.
  18. I'm after some 6.5" or narrower wheels (steelies, alloys...i don't care) in 14" or 15" Diameter to suit my KE30. I have the typical brake upgrade as detailed in the FAQ. Corona struts with coilover kits welded on. Peugot rotors and Landcruiser calipers. I also have an LSD R31 Skyline diff in the rear, so the centre bores of the hubs are different front to rear. 60mm Front and 66mm Rear. I can get get those bore spacers to fix the excess clearance in the wheels, so thats not an issue. Its simply a case of getting the right offset wheels to clear my coilovers. The trouble I have is that my existing 15" x 7" are too wide to pass engineering, but they fit perfect otherwise. I can tell you that 14" wheels off a cressida are tight on the hub bore, and the tyre scrubs on my lower spring adjustment nut. 15" TRX and R31 Steelies are set way to far in, so the tyre scrubs even more. So who has this conversion in their car, and what rims and tyres sizes do you run? Keeping in mind that in VIC, the diameter of the wheel and tyre must not vary by more than 15mm from standard.
  19. I used to have a redback resonator and straight through muffler on my KE30. Was nice and deep. Make sure you get a long (350-400mm) resonator. The Longer it is, the deeper the sound. Get a short one, and you may end up having the crazy frog as an exhaust note.
  20. Tried exercising? I started doing weights before i go to bed. I used to lay in bed for hours, occasionally looking at the clock and still not drifting off to sleep. Your heart races for a little while afterwards, but i have been getting the best sleep ever since I started.
  21. I just called GIO for a quote under their Veterans and Vintage policy. 1975 Cars and Older. My 1974 Corolla with 12A Rotary etc. (as long as its engineered and roadworthy) Full Comp Insurance - Insured for $10,000 $450 Excess $322.50 Premium Full Comp Insurance - Insured for $15,000 $450 Excess $350 Premium The policy carries all the benefits of the regular full comp policies apparently. I'll be reading the fine print. But it looks like Goodbye Shannons!!
  22. I filled out their online quote form and got a reply today. They wont insure anything worth under $5000. So they basically didnt give me anymore info than that. Agreed value may be the only way to get insurance through them. As for GIO - I just spent 10mins on hold in a supposed que waiting to get a quote. Then I got disconnected. So i called back and smashed random keys on the number pad to get onto an operator.......who then told me that the quotes department is only open from 6am til 10pm. So myself and others (realistically) would have been waiting until 6am before an operator actually picked up. Maybe they have a good scam going with the phone company.
  23. Theres always the South Melbourne Market. The best part is the Sth Melb Dim Sims. Do yourself a favour and buy a few for lunch. South Melbourne Market
  24. I agree, but 'Never' should be made to lower his car before its allowed in the calender :jamie:
  25. I don't know about you guys, but the group shots of cars do absolutely nothing for me. Half the cars are hidden behind the proceeding cars. Why don't you put names in a hat or take a poll to choose maybe 4 cars to be displayed on the calender. That way you will get some nice sized pics of corolla's. You could even put the group shot in there. Maybe a group shot in the middle, and a few cars scattered around the outside of it. What do you guys think? My car was in the last Calender, so I wont be putting my hand up to be in this one too by the way.
