  1. Nice work parrot! I love all this older gear, works Toyotas and Nissans. I've actually got this article somewhere already. Indeed the picture in my avatar is a 152E powered coupe I *think*. It's really hard to find details! It freaks me out that they are still running stock discs and drums in the car in the article!
  2. And check out how far up you can go in size before you could start getting legal problems.
  3. Ah, I'm not 100% sure, 5ml ish? I'm not sure. It's sat for about a year with me, before then I don't know. It definitely turns over. Tow start isn't an option as it's at the bottom of a hill and there are no options to go down the hill :/ At the moment I think I have a bung fuel pump, so I'll have to sort that first and then move on to the next problem :)
  4. Dizzy cleaned on the donor and all bolted back together. I did a compression test and she doesn't look great and the fuel pump seems to have stopped. I'll see if I can get that happening. Putting oil in upped the compression significantly. I'm hoping if I can get it going a bit it may actually start and loosen up. Otherwise it's at least a re ring. Not happy!
  5. Wow, last update was in February. Anyway, put some more time into it. Got a new battery and cleaned up the dizzy. There are some frayed wires on the pickups that I'm not happy about, but some electrical tape has fixed that for now. I tested the ignition and I seem to be getting pretty healthy spark out of every plug. Got a can of start ya bastard and it will pickup a little bit, but then die. It's running worse than before unfortunately. I decided to do a compression test and got this: 1: 75 2: 75 3: 150 4: 125 Ferk. Dumped some oil in and it pretty much did this: 1: 200 2: 200 3: 200 4: 200 I also pulled off the fuel line to test the pump and that didn't seem to be working, but that's new. There was definitely fuel about before. What are my chances of the rings freeing up if I can get it started, or should I just face the fact that it's engine out and rebuild time?
  6. This is still a thing. Lots of life stuff getting in the way that's really boring, I won't go on about it. Spoke to a bloke at the car club about the donor not starting. He gave some advice. I've cleaned up the dizzy which was a bit oily and found that the wires to the top pickup have both lost some insulation. May or may not be causing trouble. New pickups seem impossible to find which is annoying. The insulation on the wires seems brittle and heat damaged, which isn't ideal. I've taped up the wires and set the pickup gaps. I'll plug it all back in and see if that helps then go through the diagnostic guide the car club guy gave me. If it is that I'll hunt down a dizzy in better condition and hopefully be on my way! Brake master is back in and looking OK.

Nothing good at Elizabeth yesterday. One KE55, a couple of Corona's and a heap of normal AE82's and 92's :/ Was hoping for a twinky, I need a distributor!
  8. If you want to learn, do both. Get the stang to drive and chip away at getting the KE70 where you want it doing stuff yourself. Turn it into a drift mobile/track car and keep the stang for getting around in.
  9. Let us know how you go with this, I have a twinky that sounds like it has very similar problems. Must get back to it...
  10. Determine what the problem actually is, otherwise you'll replace things and be none the wiser. It could even be a problem with the head or head gasket. I'd take it somewhere, get a pressure test etc.
  11. Ah, Poncams! 264? I'm interested to hear what power this ends up with.
  12. But to get back on topic, I have no idea of a good way to get F1. For Malaysia we went to the pub, China I think we're going to a mates with Foxtel. Ah for the good old days.
  13. I'm trialing Netflix at the moment. You sign up and get a month free, so I thought why not. It's probably the best way to work out what content is on there. They also have Facebook and Twitter channels so you can work out what is being released to the service. So far I'm reasonably impressed and tempted given it's only about 12 bucks a month. Note that I have a WD TV that does Netflix, so it's reasonably convenient to set it all up. If you don't have something like that with Netflix ready to go and had to muck around with plugging in laptops and all that, I'm not sure I'd be as happy with it. Too much messing around. So far though, the picture quality is great. The content is pretty good and I imagine it will get better. Note that I'm also not a huge TV person who's going to die if they don't have the latest season of a show I can't live without watching... Your mileage will vary :)
  14. Yep, if commercial telly was relevant to me before, it definitely isn't now!
  15. Sorted out the tension rods and all the front bits. Finished the steering column, so now the column is back in and hooked up. I sat in it and made brumming noises for the first time in a long time! So the suspension is done except for the tie rods. Everything else is complete with new bushes, so it should steer pretty nicely now. Next up: - Clean up and refit tie rods - Clean up brake distribution block and refit. - Reassemble and refit brake master - On the weekend get TEO started so I can finally rip the motor out I took pictures, but my shed is dark and they're shit. Next time!
  16. Oh, and I picked up some TRD spark leads for the 4AGE 'cause, you know, pretty :)
  17. This is still going. The cross member is back in and struts bolted up. The radius rod/sway bar mounts are all assembled and in with new SuperPro bushes. I bolted it all up and then worked out I put in the sway bar upside down. Feck. Still, simple enough fix. I also need to take the struts back off, I can't quite get the radius rods in there with the struts at full droop and jacking them up raises the whole car when there is no motor in it :) It doesn't look too pretty as I'm skipping a lot of painting just to get it going. I have painted the brake master though as it was way too rusty for it not to bug me. I also painted the end of that steering column as that was pretty rough. I'll see if I can sneak out tonight and get some of that stuff mounted so I can concentrate on the engine. I may grab pics, it's not very impressive though, so I may not :P
  18. Ah, I'm used to earlier 4AGE's, just looked it up and quick blinking is normal. So other than not being sure about the base timing, is there actually a problem? Is it not running properly?
  19. That would be a lot of fun!
  20. I don't remember seeing a reference to 16 degrees in the factory manual or diagnostic manual, but I could be wrong. Do you have the check engine codes handy?
  21. Definitely 10 degrees with the diagnostic. I haven't come across 16 degrees before? Should be right at 10 when shorted. What code is the check engine light giving? It will flash once every three seconds when the diagnostic pin is shorted if all is OK. If something is wrong it will flash more than once.
  22. If your budget is $500 I'd stick with the 4K. Do a manual swap first and then see how much change you have left afterwards. The more you change, the more it's going to cost and you might end up having to change things you didn't expect, radiators, mounts etc. That'll quickly tank your budget and keep the car off the road for longer.
  23. To take a different angle, check out your rego and vehicle modification laws before you pour too much time and energy into your car. It would suck to go for an 18R or similar, get pulled over and have it defected, impounded, crushed (OK I'm being dramatic), etc. The more modified everything is, arguably the higher the chance of trouble. Of course if it's for track work, ignore everything I've just said :) I had a 4K with shaved head and 32/36 on it. It was a lot of fun! Not a heap of power, but was certainly quite drive-able. It was used for motorsport, so I can't comment on fuel consumption, but it didn't seem outrageous.
  24. Ah, might pass. I have all those things, but I'm quite fond of them :)
