  1. Hey everyone. I recently acquired a KE20 Corolla that's been sitting for some time. It's going to be a long project; however, I will want to engine swap it. I would love to do a 4A-GE swap, but in the US, these seem to be relatively hard to source. I do however, know of an inline 4 that I have been pondering. GM's GenII and Gen III ecotec engines are in abundance because they seem to throw them in everything that they can. Cobalts, HHRs, Saabs, Colorados, etc etc. The problem (or so I thought) was a RWD transmission. I recently found that RWD is actually possible relatively easily as the Gen II Ecotec has the same bellhousing pattern as some rwd colorados, solstice, sky transmissions (AR-5). AND the Gen III LTG engine was developed as a crate engine that was in the Cadillac ATS, ALSO with RWD. So my search for an attainable 4 cylinder, RWD, manual that I could potentially swap into the KE20 has grown. I've seen that some have done a 6 cylinder Ecotec swap in this forum, so I'm sure someone out here might have some semblance of an idea of what it would take to pull this off. This will be my first project car, so I know there will be a steep learning curve, especially if I go this route with all the extra fabrication that's probably going to be required. I'd just like to ask if anyone has looked into this engine as a possibility and what things should I look out for to try my best to source parts that have already been produced - as opposed to starting this journey and basically having to custom fabricate something that I haven't even thought about yet. This is just at the research and ideas phase, I have not purchased anything yet - I just want some ideas from people who have done these projects before. Thanks in advance for any insights.

  8. my dads 88 ae82 se 1.6 (4ac engine) now now before i get roasted and get told to get rid of it here's the story i only ever liked old corollas up to the ae86 and then my father got this stock ae82 he kept it well serviced always kept it in great condition the only mod's he did was change the steering wheel and put a free flowing exhaust on (don't know why) i didn't really like it. it was slow and i was used to my v8vf but unfortunately he passed away last year leaving me this car. i immediately changed my tune and started loving it. it was my fathers last car. i (and some will say stupidly) sold my v8 and now drive this everywhere. no one can bag me out for it now because it has sentimental value and ive changed my opinion i love 80's corolla's as well now! haha so um one of my questions is what can i do to slightly mod/improve this car while keeping it as original like my father had it as possible. k thx adrian I'm in australia birsbane

  11. Hey team need some help tried looking all over the net and can't find what i need, Currently trying to install my speedo cluster into my 1981 AE70 sedan but have a slight problem. There is ment to be 3 connector plugs leaving the loom into the back of the dash like the first photo. In my car i have 2 of the 3 plugs but where i should have the 3rd one i have two smaller ones that don't fit in any kind of way and have me all confused on why they are there and what they would have been for(see second photo). Any ideas on how to fix would be awesome or if anyone has any type of wire diagram so i could try wire in a normal plug Cheers

  13. Decided that, upon viewing how active the blogs section was, a forum was the appropriate way of doing things? I reckon this forum will be pretty much a "from this point forwards" sort of thing. Current date 26-9-2016. You can find my blog here should you want to have a look: http://www.rollaclub.com/board/blog/84-the-kids-ke15/ But before I start this forum off, I'd like to tell the story of how the car has progressed to the stage it is at now. -From the beginning. From the very beginning, with every detail I'm willing to expose publicly. It's a pretty personal story so don't be surprised if there's sappy bits. (Hope you like reading! :P) Storytime: So, currently being 16 years old, you'd wonder how I'd be in posession of a ke15, if a car at all. Truth is, I got the car at thirteen years of age. How? Well, as much as I don't like to flap my mouth about it, in 2011, i was fortunate enough to recieve a randomly drawn prize at a fishing conpetition.(Back to Pedder 2011) At 11 years old, I had won a small dingey with a merc outboard and some bits and pieces. (Lucky bastard, I know.) So, after about 3 months of "what the hell do I do with this" my dad and I decided that it would be a smart idea to sell it. Good move. Got a fair amount for it, and sat that arpund in the bank until one fateful day in Adam's driveway. My dad and I were dropping off my Honda Z50 minitrail, my first bike, off at my dad's good mate's house as payment for work he'd done to my XR100R. (Yes, I'm a dirt bike kid too) being a thirteen year old, i wasn't paticularly interested in 'adult conversation' and my attention drifted to the red car sitting in the garage. "What is that? That looks cool." The conversation eventually shifted to the car itself. I soon found myself walking circles around it like a wedge-tailed eagle to a rabbit. Sitting in it pushing all the buttons and pressing all the pedals, pretending to run it through the gears etc. (I was thirteen, who could blame me?) I loved the thing. Adam fired it up for us. Sounded damn good to my ears. At one stage adam needed to go inside for something, and as me and my dad were looking into the tiny engine bay, he poked me and held up four fingers; mouthed the words "four grand". I was dead keen. What's more, so was dad. He was letting me buy it! (Ha!) Subtly easing into the idea of actually buying it, we asked what he'd expect as a reasonable offer to be. "Oh.. I don't really know to be honest." "How does four grand sound?" I said. ... Lots of waiting, lots of indecision. :) Long story short, the car became properly mine in the June of 2013. (Took it home on a quad bike trailer!) I was very excited. So excited, that I decided to drive it up and down our 100m driveway. A lot. (This was probably not the greatest thing for the car, but hey, it taught me hill starts and better clutch control.) Aside from doing basic things like oil changes and radiator flushes, installing ariels and radios, not a lot of work was done to the car itself for quite some time. I spent a lot of my time at school of course, working at Braaap motorcycles (yes, yes, gross isn't it?), the Royal Hobart Show, and now Woolworths. Slowly gaining funds for her. Emphasis on slow. Given that I was REALLY into dirtbikes too, I'd spent a lot of money on those. It was mid 2015, when I made a REALLY poor decision to trade my newly rebuilt CRF230F for a KX250 2 stroke. (A kx250 that probably hadn't been rebuilt in years. Or even had an air filter/oil change) Stupid kid I was. Long story short, this is a corolla thread after all, I lost about $4,500. At the same time my job at Braaap went down the gurgler. Was a pretty tough time for me at that stage. It was at that same time I started experiencing symptoms of depression and anxiety. Things became really rough and many a time I had considered selling the car because I pressured myself into completing it, etc. But, somehow amidst the cluster-ʞ©$ɟ of pretty much eveything going wrong, i managed to do at least one thing right and KEEP THE SPRINTER. My first car, hopefully my last, too. Moved the car to my mum's and made a bit of an effort at starting work. Took a lot of the chrome off, badges etc. Truth be told, I probably spent more time driving the thing around the house than I did actually working on it. Depression is a hard thing to cope with, and the Sprinter has always been a good outlet. (Got the sads? Thrash the sprinter about.) Took her for a spin down the road a couple times, too. We finally bit the bullet and handed the car over to a panelbeaters to have the front stonetray and panels etc straightened out. $1500 later and the front end was pretty overrated. Once home; More or less just more driving and tinkering with small things... Took it back to dad's just a few months ago now. Since then, we've started some serious work. The car is now on the right track and looking as though it could be resprayed early next year, potentially even this year. Once the bodywork is done, the car will rapidly progress. It'll go back together. Fast. I can't wait to see it on the roads. And while I'm still having trouble with my mental illness, one thing's for sure. I don't want those keys belonging to ANYONE else. (July, 2013.)

  17. Hi I'm new to this page and am wondering if anyone can tell me if corolla and corona share the same suspension layout, wanting to put coilovers in my 86 corona WAGON but having trouble finding anything, alot of corolla suspension is available so I'm wondering if they are similar, would I need to swop control arms etc or would the coilovers bolt in to my existing hubs/control arms, or is it not possible at all. Any help/advice would be much appreciated thanks!
  18. Hey everyone, Just a question has anyone got a go to place/site for their carby needs for their KE10? I'm looking at one on Mikes Carburetor parts and I'm seeing if anyone has used it before and if its any good. I have had some issues with my carby, I think the accelerator pump has one to heaven thus causing a flat spot/stumble/hesitation. If not does anyone has any good recommendations? I'm not sure if its allowed but ill post the link so you can see whats in the kit. http://www.carburetor-parts.com/Toyota-Carburetor-Kit_p_4426.html Once again, hopefully this can be answered which will give other members a great place to check and provide them with the information they are looking for. Regards Fallen1
  19. Okay, quick question. I know the K50 comes in two variants as far as I know (one with the shifter located more forward and the other further back) I'm looking for a 5 speed box that will suit a KE38 with a 4K engine and bolt straight in. I've found one out of a KE70, will this fit in or do I need one from a different series corolla? Cheers!
  20. Hey all, Its been a while since I've posted anything. Currently converting my Ke70 to 2tgeu, thought i would chuck some photos up. Pulling the 4k out. 86 Bumper, primed and ready for paint. New carpet installed, also replaced the grotty door cards with clean ae71 ones with door pockets. (not pictured) New custom badge, i don't know if i like it. New Radiator Picked up this 2tgeu for $400 with t50, full exhaust, loom, stock ECU, and cross-member with wheels! A bit of cleaning up, sorted out some wiring Test Mounting on stock 4k cross-member - fits well - not alot of room for clutch master cyl. Removing pedal box (what a nightmare) updates to come
  21. Hey everyone, Just a question has anyone put a new clutch in their KE10? I'm looking at one on eBay and I'm seeing if anyone has used it before and if its any good. If not does anyone has any good recommendations?
  22. Hey Everyone, I have been meandering through previous threads and come across a general opinion. A lot of advice on suspension setup for these KE1x is geared/directed towards "high performance". I'm wondering if there is straight swaps for the struts on the front and rear that wont lower, raise stiffen etc the ride but rather keep it as intended by Toyota. I'm in the process of lookin at struts and the only ones i seem to be able to find are Pedders. (listed below) Front Shocks 8778 Pedders Cartridge Rear Shock 8032 Pedders Shock Absorber Rear Shackle Bushes / Kits EP8118 KIT REAR SPRING REAR EYE & SHACKLE I was quoted 560 just in parts, which seems a bit excessive. does anyone know of a better alternative? Regards F1
  23. Hello rolla fans, my name is Nick, i'm 30 years old and i'm from Greece. For few weeks now I'm proud owner of a Corolla KE70. Because i'm working full season I brought the car but I haven't see it or touch it yet (because i'm working in a island) so my best friend did all the papers etc and have it on his garage. The plan on this beauty going for Drift Project but for now i'm trying to fix it. Off topic : Because the rear wheels has more offset than the front I heard that you can add fenders from Golf MK1 is that true and if yes from the front or from the rear? Thanks Nick.
