  1. So true about racer/weekender - you can really enjoy it then, is there anyone who does tarmac rallies in mountain areas that are time trails? When you mentioned pedestrian/tree, it reminded me of a smash I saw up the road from work, when a car lost control and hit a tree on the sidewalk / intersection in the middle of the CBD in peak hour, if she didn't hit the tree she would of killed atleast a couple of people! Very lucky girl. Thanks for tips on spray putty, its for my r/c racing yacht. :)
  2. As the saying goes, happy wife, happy life  lol money, to get the car where I want it I think I need to double my pay without doubling the expenses, never get up your wife for buying her girly things, instead promote it, incourage it, and hopefully they will return the favour when you say "but honey, working on my car really makes me happy" And as for our race, .... hmm you better get a move on! actually not really, I don't think I'm going to register Maxi until i move out of here and get a place with a proper garage!
  3. First of all welcome to Rollaclub! :y: It's an interesting little car, the chasis is more Tercel... crossed with EP71 starlet with ae92 GTS styling cues. EL31's come in at around 850kg. Detailed specs (not sure how accurate tho) I don't really have that option of throwing money at it, not really in that situation to be able to do that (and get away with it without sleeping on the couch), so I just take it slowly, learning as I go, thankfully I have another car as my daily driver which makes a lot less stressful and easier. I'm really looking forward to it running the 4EFTE on the correct ECU, since buying this car I have had only a select few moments of it running well, even with the old engine, so to sort out the engine and have it running like it should be will be a dream come true.
  4. I was wondering again if you were going to turn your baby into a track car, then it occured to me that maybe was the worest possible idea ever, and if you don't know why ask Eric Bana :laff: Can I ask, with the spray putter, would that work ok on fibre-glass?
  5. Couple of progress pics: Jacking the car up, I used these steel plates under the jack, worked a treat. I'm going to need a bigger jack to put the axle stands under the car. If you were wondering why did I swap the wheel, here is the answer: Finally I have some room to move around and I can air out the car, Maxi doesn't look to bad after being in storage for so long, still nice and shiny.
  6. You're more then welcome! I'll keep an eye / ear out for you regarding the 7 rib oil squirter block and/or the 20v crank  I'll do some forum trolling tomorrow!
  7. This weekend, I have to do the mowing, put the round tyres with air in them on... and push the car out onto the mowed lawn, get the scissor jack under it and jack it up and put it on axle stands, get under it and drain the fuel, wire up the TPS sensor, swap the 3ETE injectors to 4EFTE ones, swap the injector plugs to 4EFTE ones, finish other ECU mystery wiring, and hopefully have the car ready to fit the loom and maybe a test fire up the following weekend.
  8. Thanks heaps Chris, I feel really privileged and honoured with you and the guys offering to help me out. Ummm before I came back to this topic I cut the plugs off the other loom and during the week soldered them onto the original loom  I don't really know how to describe how I am feeling about that decision now, but this should sum it up: :bash: + :laff: + :sob: + + + :no2: = :hmm: This weekend, I have to do the mowing, put the round tyres on with air in them ... and push the car out onto the mowed lawn, get the scissor jack under it and jack it up and put it on axle stands, get under it and drain the fuel, wire up the TPS sensor, swap the 3ETE injectors to 4EFTE ones, swap the injector plugs to 4EFTE ones, and hopefully have the car ready to fit the loom and maybe a test fire up the following weekend.
  9. Hey Trev, thanks for checking it out for me! If possible, can you please check out what these are, and if I have them correct: 3ETE engine loom: VSV2 - V-ISC - ??? 4EFTE engine loom: ELS - Electrial load signal system tail light relay DISC - Aux. Control Valve / idle system vaccum switching valve AC1 - A/C Switch signal system (12v to aircon computer)? AC2 - 12v to aircon computer ACT - A/C cut control system Trev, what's VF = check connector. mean? what would plug upto that? ***3ETE to 4EFTE ECU PIN-OUT*** diagram removed for editing. RE: Air flow meter, Apparently not, I did some quick research into it and it doesn't use one. the 4EFTE uses a map sensor. *****EDIT***** I found this great article on wiring up the 4EFTE into a Tercel / Paseo - check it out if your stuck.
  10. Hi Trev, are you sure? PSW is the throttle position sensor and that's on both ECU's, I have a good feeling the VSV2 is the same DISC Thanks Teddy, Wow where are you jet setting to? taking holidays... who approved that! :no2: :P Have fun mate! ........ hopefully the car will be ready to fire up in a few weeks, but any help I can get about this wiring I'll grab! Thanks mate! I hope your nearly finished with your body work... lol (so you can start on mine! lol) Yeh, air-con is sorta a requirement if long drives are planned in summer time, tho when it broke and I had to drive an hour to work in the middle of summer through traffic, I was suprised I was never arrested for indecent exposure :P Then again, I'm not 100% sure on what I want to do with Maxi, I've always talked of a tarmac rally car, maybe one day do targa tas (dream of mine since I was little) .. what ever the case, first things first, it needs to run!
  11. Finished for tonight, only have aircon to worry about now, I have one wire outstanding on my 3ETE loom which is for VSV2, I'm thinking this could be: DISC - Aux. Control Valve / idle system vaccum switching valve VSV1 which is on both ECU's is: Air control vacum switching valve. They sorta sound like the same thing? .... anyone? Anyhow, here is the 3ETE ecu loom with 4EFTE, my first go at auto-electrics, including soldering lol Close up of ECU wires, may not be pretty, but lets hope it works:
  12. I'm stuck, on my 4EFTE diagram I have a couple of ECU pin out's I can't match on my 3ETE wiring diagram: The following is on the 89661-10040 4EFTE ECU that don't know what to connect to: VF - ??? ELS - Electrial load signal system tail light relay DISC - Aux. Control Valve / idle system vaccum switching valve AC1 - A/C Switch signal system (12v to aircon computer)? AC2 - 12v to aircon computer ACT - A/C cut control system The following is on my 3ETE ECU I don't know what to connect to: VCC - ??? A/C - Aircon I'm thinking, I'll connect AC1 and AC2 together and plug them into the A/C wire? I've stuffed up, I'm checking out a starlet wiring diagram and it has VCC mentioned, but looks like I've plugged something else up to it.. :bash: **EDIT** woops VCC & FF are on both ECU's, I stuffed up (again) have to re-wire them again. Still no DISC or ELS tho... ? any ideas anyone?
  13. Started the wiring today, here are some photos: All the equipment I purchased, $50.00 The mission: I made a mistake, and had to re-track my steps .... major pain in the arse.
  14. I'm doing the wiring now, though just came accross an issue, Would VS VS1 on the 3ETE ecu be the same thing as VS V1 on the 4EFTE ? EDIT .. it is... I did a typo on my ECU plans Should be VS V1 .. confirmed via ECU circuit board.
  15. Matt, lol I'm sitting here looking at 1 x 3ETE loom, 1 x hacked 4E/3E loom, 1 x 4EFTE loom.... 3 x 4EFTE ecu's and 1 x 3ETE ecu, .... Shudder is the word considering my wiring experience extends to plugging up desktop PC parts lol The good news is that I've just found a pin-out diagram for the 3ETE ecu, and I have one for the 4EFTE ECU, things have finally turned for the better!! (Every time things go pear-shaped with the looms I walk over to the comp and nearly PM Justin lol, but then remember I have to have a crack at it myself!) Current situation (with my assistant sleeping on the job):
  16. I attempted to fit the parts car loom tonight, no joy, to many unknown plugs, injectors are different, my motor has the 3ETE injectors (red), still in place, I'm thinking I'll convert them to the 4EFTE ones. I can tell you tell you working on a car with no head room, hitting my head on beams, and I can't even stand upright, is really getting a bit annoying. I envey you people with garages. Anyhow, I'm going to splice the original loom to have the 4EFTE plugs, I've come to the conclusion that it will be the easiest thing to do. After a bit of this----> :sob: I thought I'll chuck that worn out Nardi steering wheel on, looks alright, crapy condition but a lot lighter then the original, which I'm planning to restore and keep around. This cheered me up a little:
  17. Congrats man, I bet hearing it start up was pretty exciting!
  18. Parts car had some dodgy wiring, but I think that was more the iginition, I'll do a test fit tonight of the parts car loom - click here for progress :(
  19. I love my overalls, even tho they are bright red, with white, and have Ralliart patches and Bridgestone with 'Sutherland Mitsubishi' written on the back, I look like a Mitsubishi team mechanic sabotaging a Toyota! :fuzz: Check them out: As for the loom, not really, just un-pluging and taking the care not to break anything, had to take the strut bar off to get in behind the motor, and also cut one huge arse copper wire behind the engine, not sure if that's important :hmm: ________________________________________________________________________ **EDIT** - Update: I just put both looms next to each other: Here are some wiring issues :blinks: First 3 - accidential pulled out the sensor, whats' a good fix? I had to cut this thick wire, any clues on rejoining something like this via male/female connecter? Also, checked the looms out, seems to be a few different plugs and some completely missing.. :(
  20. I pulled the 3ETE loom out, plugs look like they are the same as the parts car loom, if there not then I'll have to change that part over. I must say it feels great working on my own car and doing stuff myself, also makes it special that it's my first car, I can't wait to hear it start up for the first time in years... On another note, I found my old overalls the other day, I washed them during the week and tonight I chucked them on to work on the car, and its fantastic! I didn't think once about dirtying my cloths and my mind was completely on the job, therefore, overalls get a :y: One 3ETE engine loom:
  21. Hmmmm before I saw Justin's post I disconnected and removed the whole 3ETE engine loom :P Thank you for your input Carbonboy! I really appreciate it :y:
  22. PM Sent! Can you do me a favour and move my thread to the electrical forum, I didn't see it  lol
  23. Some of my faves: Ferrari P4 Le Man edition: Ferrari 430 Scuderia Ferrari 599 GTO AC COBRA Aston Martin DBS Black Edition
  24. You have a beautiful rally car, looks amazing and professional, looking forward to seeing it at the rallies. P.S: Hard luck about the rods :(
  25. Cabonboy, that's the other route i was thinking of lol, not my first choice as I don't have all the electrical doobie wackers needed to complete the job. Stupid question, is this how engine wiring works? ECU is plugged into the engine loom, engine loom is plugged into engine sensors and battery, (don't touch anything else), end of story? car should technically fire up? What would be all the other extra's besides power steering (I thought that would be aux.)? hmmmm I might have to strip out the other extra's from the parts car and swap them other.... hmmm I'm just going to have a crack at it and see what happens...
