Well you picked a good one to start with. I can recommend LOTS of reading before starting any works. It may be a 'basic' swap but that doesn't mean that it's foolproof. Hell, I freaked out enough swapping a bigport for a bigport! I'm not on my PC at the moment otherwise I'd link you a few pages to get you started but the forums search feature/Google are pretty good at turning up answers to questions. :) One of those workshop manuals (I recommend Haynes) can save your bacon too when things aren't working, so are one of the best $40 you'll spend on your car. Edit: the idiot/dipshit comments were aimed at your 'mechanic', NOT you. :y: Not your fault for believing something you were told by someone who should know better. As per what Trev said, we don't even have a k-frame, let alone need a stronger one.

I must be a sick lil puppy, I enjoy it. :D Forever listening to mates whinging about access to their (rwd) cars basics such as spark plugs, oil filter etc. Okay, changing a clutch is a long process, but pop the bonnet, starter motor & oil filter's are right there as are the spark plugs. No need to pull intake manifolds off to get to them here! :laff:

+1  Pedestrian-crash safety requirements, gotta love 'em! The arguement is to reduce damage to people in the event of an accident, removing the soft plastic & leaving solid metal behind might pi$$ the authorities off just a touch. Good luck finding a xE7x you're happy with! :y:

Shit man, that's horrible news! I hope they can find the scumbag, lowlife/s who did it. :( We were broken into twice at the old place, that feeling of being violated hung around a while. I know this might not sound the greatest, but I'd keep an eye on the local cash converters/pawn shops, there may be a chance of something turning up. Which if you can prove it's yours, will have to be returned as, well, they'd be selling stolen property. I'd prefer that a truck ran the c**ts over & reversed back, but take what you can get I suppose.

Noice! :y: Fantastic writeup man, a lot of complex procedures broken down into simple(ish), easy to understand steps that even I can comprehend. Great to see you're still fiddling & finetuning as well. :)

Can anyone say MORE FREQUENT UPDATES?!?! Good chance to 'detox' my life a little too, get rid some of the junk I've hoarded & the little 'projects' I'll never finish.

+1 on this! 2AC, 4AF, 4AGE, it doesn't matter, the crossmember underneath the motor & the mounting points are the same. A-series engine out, A-series engine back in. :)

The fun begins... I have the green light to be able to start moving house! :D

AE82 Corolla TC - $3,000 Modifications - $2,000 Beating/keeping up with $20k+ cars at trackdays - Priceless :D I'm not familiar with AE093's car (I abandoned the old twincam.org a while back & the new one refuses to acknowledge that any of my 4 email addresses exist) but Bway's is...another level alltogether. Beating his time won't be easy. :no2: I think my first goal will be to be within 10 seconds of a mates JZA80 TT. :laff:

Nice work Justin, sounds like you had a ball aside from the BHG. :y: Here's hoping it's just a new one & away you go. :) P.S - Your time now gives me something to aim for!
-
 Fcuk...how you didn't kill him right there & then is beyond me, I would've lost the plot & beaten him with said panels. :blinks: On a brighter note, nice one with the rego plates. :y:

Like carrying 4 adults, towing won't happen all the time but it will happen. The car on the trailer will be sub-950kgs, car trailers are...what...about 700kgs? :hmm: Good point about having to work the motor hard, ability to tow confortably is the point. Isuzu as in Isuzu D-Max/Holden Rodeo? I reckon I could live with that! Hilux, Navara, D-Max, Trition, I've got myself a ballpark.

140Psi On Cylinders For A 16V 4Age ??
carbonboy replied to ill-ke70's topic in Automotive Discussion
Assuming that the compression test has been performed correctly, for 1987 through to 1989 engines my manual tells me 1236kpa (179.26664psi) is normal whereas 863kpa (125.16756psi) is the minimum. I'm not so sure about later engines, hope this helps. -
I don't care if it's a Nissan engine, I now say no to engine racism. How can you not with this setup? It's porn in any vehicle! :D

You've got it all wrong man, real rollas are FWD..... :P :lolcry: K-sev's are the perfect paddock bashing cars, excellent work gentlemen! First step, acquire, second step, weld diff, third step, skids! :)

Geez...it's only been WEEKS since I touched this bit, the drivers front jack point/sill. Sanded once. Rear drivers jack point metalmend sanded. Front sanded with finer grit & dusted/washed. The rear was bogged then received the same treatment. Didn't forget this again! :laff: Primer. Damn pinholes. Got the rear door/wheelarch bit. :) Grrr, pinholes. :hmm: Spray putty, complete with some runs! Thankyou for the invention of a hard block. Also, I test fitted the sideskirts today... ... Most of this gets hidden! :lolcry: Ahh well, at least the base underneath will be okay. There's a large-ish crack in one I hadn't noticed earlier, will be busting open my box of glass offcuts once I can find the damn thing! Moving house for the fail! On the upside, this part I hadn't been looking forward to, I'll see what my shoulders, back & hips have to say about all that time on the concrete, even with padding. :(

The Pen Is Mightier Than The Sword..!
carbonboy replied to nerfbat's topic in Rollaclub Social (Off-Topic)
They might as well just go & do it, as the chances of them getting their fellow member back alive is pretty slim. :( P.S - Happy Birthday! :y: -
Consider me volunteered, I contacted Frank mid-way through reading this months newsletter today & I'm in for whatever. :) Forgot to get ahold of Batch today regarding the working bee, by the sound of the grounds condition, they need as much loving as they can get. I'm not good for earthmoving equipment etc but I've got a few things to kill vegetation with.

I cooked the brake fluid & a set of front pads in BT through a new housing estate one night delivering pizza. Not because I was under time pressure, just lots of roundabouts & corners that were loads of fun until people started to move into the houses... Bugger! :( Glad to hear you're okay, noone's hurt & it's a (relatively) simple fix. :y:
-
:o I thought $600+ for a single brake rotor was extreme...you win! I wouldn't know where to start...laughing, telling them what they can do with their price, ranting & raving?? :) WMMH - 4 day weekends, I don't give two left ones about horse racing but I'll take days off no problem!

Grab a few thick pieces of timber, lay them on top of each other on the ground & drive the wheels of the end you want to jack up onto them. This should give you enough clearance to get a jack under, might need to put a block under the jack too. I had the same problem with my '82, so I now have 'jack blocks' stashed in the shed. :D

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you need at least 10 posts before you can post up in the 'For Sale' section, could be something similar to this?

That may be true, but I seriously doubt I could fit as much into an R34 GTS-T as I do into my hatchback. :D I know I'm eliminating a lot of the car market with the "No Holden/Ford" thing, I just refuse to own one. Even if someone gave me a Commodore wagon, I'd swap it for a fishtank. I've heard the same things about the Subaru engines, also that they tend to develop a bit of carbon build-up in the head/intake manifold? Little things like that I can live with, would prefer not to have but can live with. The Hilux has a lot going for it, none of this jacked up, massive mud-tyred, UHF aerial BS in the suburbs for me though. The Navara's a good thought too, they're about the physically largest vehicle I'd like (along with the Hilux), the Subaru appealed as it's less like a truck & can still do the job. This is why I've started looking 8 months in advance.

/start rambling I'm contemplating a future replacement vehicle for Blue Thing (AE80 hatch), my current daily. Most likely not going to happen until at least mid-next year, I'm just looking around & doing some thinking. Requirements: - To be capable of seating 4 adults, doesn't happen often but I'd like the option. - Have a decent tow capacity, I'm thinking car trailer plus car on it weight. - Be capable of carrying large loads SECURELY (i.e lockable canopy over alloy tray is a must, tools & work gear have a habit of going 'missing'...), I have photo evidence of what I have managed fit into my hatchback, so if this can't at least equal that amount, forget it. - Not have a major flaw in the model i.e oil pumps die regularly, timing chains etc letting go. Minor 'character flaws' like using more oil than expected no matter what I can live with. Just want reliability to be as high as possible, relatively speaking. - To be 'car-like' to work on (engine under a bonnet, not the front seats) & to drive. Which rules out things like Landcruisers, Pajeros etc as they're just to big for my liking. :( - NO HOLDEN OR FORD VEHICLES!! Fullstop, end of story, discussion over. - Price range, $10 - $12k. My thoughts have included: Subaru Liberty wagon, Toyota Hilux crew cab with canopy (petrol, diseasal, not fussed), I've even looked at Volvo wagons in a different light now. :P /end rambling Your thoughts/suggestions?
