I don't think its a matter of simplicity, more that we havent had such an influx of new members asking the same stupid questions before. The few that used to trickle through were easily dealt with case by case.
There are very few people that ever make it to 40%. I think about three or four. The record is 11 warns...
We can start cracking down hard, but is that really the environment we want? We went through a period of over moderation last year from memory. It wasnt nice for the general users and resulted in a noticeable lack of posting everywhere! I really don't want to go so far as to warn everyone for every little insignifigant incident. Then youve got to try and back it up with consistancy. "I was warned for that, but you didnt warn him!"
I did this to another forum I worked for. It was surprisingly effective. People could still see their post count in their profile, but it removed the "e-penis on display" kind of effect. I personally don't give a shit about my post count, or anyone elses for that matter.
